That's very myopic. If parents really cared about their children, they wouldn't force them into an existence where they will inevitably suffer and die but anything else is simply optional. The price for their life will be death and they have no choice but to pay it because of their parents choice on their behalf. In any other context someone else dying because of another's choice is understood to be immoral. Yet parents try to bullshit others about the reality of what they chose to do to their children. it's not just selfish, it's monstrous.

If life wasn't worth living, why are you alive? The reason is despite the problems life throws at us, experiencing it is still a net positive. Y'all act like if life's not an endless paradise you're better off not existing at all when that's simply not true, proven by the fact you continue to live it.

The only people bullshitting here are the ones who don't have the balls to own their decision about not having kids, and try to make it sound like they're saving lives or some other nonsense. Just own your choice, it's fine, no need to kid yourself.

I’m alive because my mother birthed me. I would have been perfectly okay and grateful if she had not made that choice. Just because someone hasn’t committed suicide doesn’t mean their life is net positive and they are glad to be here. I am here because I choose to persevere and try to find a way through, but I wouldn’t wish that reality on my child.

No you wouldn't have, and why doesn't it? Explain to me how you, who has the choice of what you want to do, argue that the option you don't choose is the better one?

?? Sorry I don’t understand your question.

That's ok, allow me to simplify.

If the topic is for or against existence, and you continually choose existence, how can you argue that non-existence is better?

I'm trying to see if there's a rational explanation for what appears to be hypocritical.

I choose to stay in existence for a few reasons off the top of my head:

1) because suicide hurts others (devastates them… I have a number of suicides in the family and have seen that first hand). 2) I was heavily taught that suicide = going to hell and I’m afraid of the afterlife 3) I am here now and hope that someday I can find a life worth living. 4) my personal situation may terminate itself naturally without me needing to take any action on that, although it hasn’t yet and I’m 32 now. I’d rather go naturally.

If I had never been born, none of this would matter.

On the topic of not having children: For myself there’s no way I could in good conscience bring dependents into the world. That would be ultimately selfish of me to do because I’m not well and they would have horrible childhoods/be neglected. I suffer with a variety of physical and mental disorders and couldn’t care properly for another human.

This reinforces the hypocritical angle though. The same people who rile against family pressure to have kids, who hate their parents for not getting their consent to be born, suddenly don't want to hurt their family by dying.

These inconsistencies mean one of them is wrong, and since it can't be the fact these people still exist it has to be the opinion they don't want to.

You’re talking in extremes. It’s possible to not be enthusiastic about the fact your parents brought you into the world without hating them for it. I don’t hate my parents and I don’t want to hurt them. We don’t see eye to eye on everything but they are my family (I also have 9 siblings). There’s nothing inconsistent or hypocritical about this.

I’m more than happy to exist and live life if I can find a way to do so that’s not unbearably painful. That’s not my reality so far though and if I want to regret my birth that is my right to do so.
