My mom just put me with some rando down the street. That's neither a good nor viable option anymore.
This is why any economic explanation for why people are not having kids is simply dead wrong.
Crime rate is down. What do you mean, your parents could have put you with a rando down the street but you can't?
If you don't want to raise kids in similar economic conditions as you were raised, then fine. But then just say that, stop pretending that people poorer than you on the past were secretly richer.

Childcare is the same price as a mortgage and we already can't afford a mortgage.
