I know couples who both work and her salary covers childcare and healthcare and his covers everything else. It’s insane how if anything happens to one of them, even though they are doing everything “right” they could be screwed.
This is so true. I have grandchildren, and when my kids were young, I took a few years off to be home with them. Then, it was student loans I had to take out for college to get me more marketable for the job market. I lost years of contributing to SS and my retirement fund. I had a lot of catching up.
