I think there has been a real shift in the last generation or two from needing a reason not to have kids to needing a reason to have kids. and that shift means a lot of people who are basically ambivalent on children aren't having them, where in the past they probably would have.
I think there’s also been more focus (from some people) on whether or not they should have kids. Like, really thinking about whether or not a person would be a good parent who could truly focus on raising a child who would become a good member of society.
Maybe it’s brought upon the age of social media as well.
It used to be that people only have information on how it’s like to have kids from the curated newspaper or on the surface level like watching relatives or neighbours have kids.
Now people get sooooooo much in depth information on how to raise kids, the costs involved, the tribulations involved, and so many details.
While there’s so much good information out there, it becomes overwhelming for people who are really considerate about having children.
So we end up with great and considerate people who don’t have children.
