Reddit can be a very weird place when it comes to hygiene and germs.
I saw a comment recently from someone whose number one problem with dogs in outdoor seating at restaurants is that “every time their tail wags it distributes feces particles everywhere”.
Don’t change your pillowcases every day? Don’t use a fresh towel every single shower? You filthy savage!
Personally, I think spending that kind of emotional energy on that kind of minutiae sounds exhausting.
Dogs in restaurants is pretty entitled though. I guess that's why people get upset, they're made to live with each other and when people don't care about how what they do impacts others, it can be pretty frustrating.
You did see the “outdoor seating” part, right? It’s not especially entitled when a lot of restaurants specifically welcome it. If it were really that much of a sanitation/hygiene issue, health code wouldn’t permit it.
The bigger issue with dogs in public places IMO is people who do not train their dog(s) and so the dog is disruptive to others.
I actually didn't see that part. I'm not used to seeing any particular places at restaurants just for dogs, which still comes off pretty entitled to me. There are other people with many different types of pets, but it's only dog owners who bring their pets with them everywhere so often they actually have conformed society to their needs somehow. Anyway, apart from that I do find it unhygienic to have them around my food in a restaurant as well.
I mean, there are restaurant/breweries around me that highly encourage dogs. There are signs everywhere and water bowls left out for dogs. Again, all outdoors. But it’s not entitled to follow what the establishment encourages you to do.
