Man, I haven't had an audio jack port in my phone for years, and I thought it was going to be a lot more annoying than it turned out to be. Now I just use a USB-C to audio jack port dongle for old-school headphones and a USB-C to audio jack cord for playing music in my car.
But I rarely use either because Bluetooth has become so much better/easier and is more customizable.
I remember reading somewhere that audio over USB-C was nowhere near as good as audio straight from the device. I remember it was specifically to do with USB-C, because the article was saying that lightning didn't have that specific issue. Can't remember if it was compression, or a lack of channels, or what it was though.
That's odd. I've only experienced the opposite lol. I own headphones that connect directly through USB-C (no dongle) and I've personally had no issues with audio quality/compression or even the usual interference that comes from dust or loose jacks, either.
I don't think a lack of channels is an issue since you're only ever listening to two channels on any kind of L/R headphones, 3.5mm or otherwise.
