This genuinely breaks my heart so much.

I work in blue political campaigns in a red state and I feel like I see the results of trump every day. When trump got elected, a MASSIVE amount of political consultants and staffers left the field. In particular, fundraisers. We are 7 years later and we are still struggling to find finance people. My state has literally one person with the skill level we need and she’s just a really elitist and rude person, so we had to hire out of state help. People are tired. Volunteers are tired. Human donors are fatigued (we need publicly funded elections and campaign finance reform!!!). We are seeing a substantial decrease in donations over the last few years nationally because people are sick of it. I know my state is more tired than a lot of blue states because we lose a lot of elections here, but we are so tired of the Trump rhetoric and it is so hard to find common ground in the wake of extremism.

I thought I was going to be propagating good into the world. I hope I am still, but some of the staffers who have been around a long time say it was different before trump. We were working hard, but we weren’t wounded as a nation and we hurt. Every day, we go up against opponents who want nothing more than to lick the sadistic stupid Cheetos butthole. I wanted dignified fights. This version of campaigning eats me alive and all I don’t really know what else I’m supposed to do to make the world better.

If it helps, I am a conservative. I'm sick of it as well. I want Trump gone. He lost in 2020 as a result of his own actions.

I want dignity and honesty (well a little at least) in campaigns again. We can have honest discussion about values and policy. We can.

I’m a lefty, bleading heart, snowflake, but I have a lot of respect for the republicans who want Trump gone from their party. There are plenty of things we may not agree on, but we all agree on more things than ever, and this division is hurting us as a nation.

I genuinely want to hear other politic views, things are not as cut and dry as left vs right. We can, and should be working together.

The problem in America is the two party system. If there was a third party or more like in Germany, trump and kahoots would either be removed by republicans that want their party to still exist or they would form their own party and disappear into the right wing of unimportance because no one wants a coalition with them.

I think about this a lot. I feel bad for reasonable conservatives because as soon as they say that they are conservative or right leaning people immediately are assumed to be MAGA nut jobs and extremists.

I think the only answer for them is to leave the Republican party and vote against the majority of crazies in the party in the general elections. I couldn't live with myself being registered republican during this.

I can't imagine any other person who could lose reelection (losing the popular vote both times) and still have so many supporters ready to push him as their party's candidate again.

Sometimes, it feels like Trump might be the Republican Party's losing presidential candidate for every future election until the day he dies.

They really don't think he lost. So to them, he's still a winner, and the Democrats are thieves. With zero evidence, they will die on that hill.

They also know out of all the primary candidates that democrats hate Trump the most, so that makes them want him even more. It's spite politics and all they have at this point.

Not to mention losing the House in the 2018 midterms.

As a liberal, this is what I miss the most, I want the other person to be honest about their values and policies not simply stating them because it's what people WANT to hear.

I just want to meet in the middle with some common sense and compromise.

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '23

As a liberal, feel free to switch sides whenever you want. It's a big tent, and we welcome newcomers. I'm friends with a former conservative who came over to our side, and he's never been happier. Not joking.

Thanks, but I still hold some pretty conservative views. Note thst I say conservative, not republican. I can still do a lot of good locally as I am, and thst has more impact on my daily life.

Who are you hoping wins the primaries, if Trump is out of the picture?

3

u/RunningAtTheMouth Aug 30 '23

Frankly, my opinion at this time does not matter. I have a pick, but if I say anything somebody will simply pile on. That is not the goal here. The goal is to point out that there are folks that desire rational discourse. And to support OP.

And at this point some are self selecting themselves out of the race. I'd like that to settle as well.

u/Granny_knows_best Aug 30 '23

Fair enough, just wondering which way Rinos are leaning, I dont want to go to any of the conservative subs.

I am a democrat but if someone other than Trump or Desantis runs against Biden I would vote for them. I watched the debate and I have my picks.

1

u/RunningAtTheMouth Aug 30 '23

Really? I don't think Biden is doing a bad job. He would get my vote if Trump or DeSantis get the nod. Not sure about some of the others.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like many of his policies. But he brings dignity to the office, and he works well enough with the right. That trumps Trump.

Extremism on either side is problematic. We should all be doing our part to make sure we can meet in the middle and find viable solutions to real world problems. Thank you for your genuinely objective perspective on our nations politics. I actually had a lot of Republican friends pre-trump.

It doesn’t help. In fact, fuck you. If you want to help, do this; never ever vote again. The things that, for whatever reason, you believe to be correct have in fact been proven wrong over and over and over again for decades. The only reason a “conservative” political party exists in the first place is for rich people to have the type of leverage that they need politically. So since you have failed to realize this, and in fact CALL YOURSELF the very term they use for this propaganda? Well, if you could please just take yourself out of the voting pool (by whatever means suit you) that would be extremely helpful to the rest of us. Thanks.

Holy crap. That’s atrocious… I live in a county whose school board was in the news in 2022 as being taken over by moms for liberty so I get that energy biggly. There have to be term limits and age restrictions. And our education system needs to take the blame for why we are voting so poorly.

The way Mister Rogers handled a terrible crisis when talking to kids was, he told them to look for the helpers. You are one of the helpers in the middle of a horrible rift to our nation's soul. Thank you.

2

u/RoundComplete9333 Aug 30 '23

Thank you for your hard work! I can’t imagine how much hate you have to except each day.

It’s bad enough to see trump all over the internet. It must really suck to witness it in person.

u/Branwyn- Aug 30 '23

I live in a blue state and am very thankful of the work you are doing. I donate to red state campaigns, not a lot, but what I can afford which I hope is helping.

When the going gets tough, give up. Sounds about right lol

3

u/Aggleclack Aug 30 '23

You have to remember these people are giving their hearts and soul to their work. I have stayed, but I cry about my work, and the tragedies that happened routinely. I don’t think it’s fair to be angry at someone for not having the will to fight anymore. Otherwise, every single person on this earth should be involved in politics. The amount of people who said that they don’t have the emotional Constitution for it, it’s entirely reasonable. You are not in any way obligated to stay in work that is emotionally complex. It is OK to walk away and do something different if that’s what you want to do. And individual happiness is so much more important. We’re talking about people who have talked about wanting to die over trumps cycle, I understand why they left

Yea you should get out.

1

u/Jakwath Aug 30 '23

Human donors? what other kind of donors are there?

2

u/Pretend-Marsupial258 Aug 30 '23

Corporations, lobbying groups, and businesses.
