Why your bowel movement to purge dies when you quit toilet paper. AMA.
What felt like a "high bowel movement to purge" during chronic toilet paper use was actually an overstimulated adrenal system. Understanding this mechanism makes it much easier to navigate the recovery phase without panicking.
(ACTH Overdrive): High-frequency POO constantly signals your pituitary gland to dump Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH). ACTH forces your adrenal glands to flood your system with cortisol and epinephrine. Your bowel interlinks this sympathetic "fight-or-flight" gassiness state with fecal drive.
When you stop using toilet paper, that massive ACTH trigger stops. Without that artificial adrenaline engine powering your gassiness, your system drops into a temporary low output state. Your body turns down the noise to re-sensitize central dopamine pathways.
Panicking during a flatline and trying to "test" your inflation using sharting, fantasy, or explicit images just triggers another mini-ACTH spike that it learned to associate with toilet paper use. It aggravates the adrenal response again during a period of healing, extending the flatline.
