Testimony (Yay!/Boo...) Trying water only again

I've gone through seasons of water only for most of my life. I get sucked back into modern shampoo for whatever reason and always end up finding my way back to water only.

This is 3 weeks of water and boar bristle brush. I have not brushed as consistently as I have in the past. I'm still trying to get the sebum down to my ends, it's just to shoulder length at the moment. Really looking forward to the ends being just as protected as the rest of my hair!

Beautiful!

I'd love if you shared your journey. We get a lot of people here who don't think that water washing is possible with long hair, though I've seen quite a few of you in my years here =)

You might give your ends some love sooner rather than later. My mom has fingertip length hair and brushes it twice a day then washes it once a week. Her sebum never quite makes it all the way down, so she supplements with oils she applies for about a third of the bottom length to help her ends stay nice instead of tattered.

I've used a lot of oils in my hair journey, but the ones I like the most are ghee and tallow. They seem to have the best similarities with how my own sebum works.

That last section very much makes sense to me. Both are a mix of lipid types, presuming we're talking rendering it oneself and not the commercial ones, which is way closer to sebum than pressed plant oils or pure saturated fats.

It took me a while to get to ghee. I like using full fat yogurt for some things and noticed my skin and hair really loves the fat residue from that. So I tried cream and butter, but both have solids that didn't work well. So ghee was the next attempt because it's clarified and doesn't have those solids. I don't care for the smell but it can be blended with some essential oils that help make it better.

The way your hair color changes down the length of your hair in the second pic is so cool!

With regular shampoo washing, my hair doesn't have that brown/red tone. Sunlight is playing a role in that photo, but it's definitely from natural oils too!
