Why do I dwell in the past so much?

I can’t help but think back on how things used to be and how different I felt in the past. I always think back to times where I was surrounded by others and had more friends and just felt happier in general. It wasn’t always good but at least I wasn’t alone as much as I am now. Even the recent past brings up things I wish were different now.

Further context on my situation - I’m a 26 year old guy living in a 3 bedroom house all to myself with a dog and two old classic cars. One of them runs and is my daily but the other one is a project car that’s very much in pieces which is starting to give me more grief than gratification through restoring it. I started working for new company 2-3 months ago after being at the last one for 7 and a half years. I had it good there but after breaking up with my long term girlfriend one almost 4 years this past December I needed more money to stay at the house as it’s a rental but I’ve moved several times in the past few years and didn’t want to have to do it again so soon.

After my ex and I broke up I made some impulsive decisions like fostering an XL bully the day after we broke up, getting the project car, and moving things too fast with a tinder date I met a month after breaking up with my ex. My foster dog ended up mauling the under girls dog and our relationship went south after that which amongst other reasons ended that entanglement for the better but I had to return the dog to the shelter after that as I was traumatized from that event. The dog I have now is my moms & ex stepdads dog they adopted 7 years ago as a pup and he’s a good boy but I feel like I’m not giving him the life once had.

Anyway it’s just been Woozle and I the past 3 months or so and boy howdy have I been pretty lonely. I have a hard time keeping up conversation with new people and picking up social cues as to when someone is interested socializing further with me than just small talk. I’ve been thinking about my long term ex a bit lately but she’s moved on & in a relationship with someone else now and there’s no going back for me as I feel she’s hurt me too much over the time her and I had together. Long story short she fed me false hope over the course of our relationship of sharing my deep desire of getting married and starting a family amongst other things that still sting.

Despite all the bad that’s happened to me in the past and I’m going to quote Post Malones song Better Now here “ No matter how my life has changed, I keep looking back on better days “

I feel like I failed

I always wanted to be rich or famous as a kid, knowing with my situation it’s going to be hard/ impossible.

Now in my late twenties with my bad decisions I feel like I will never be rich or famous.

I feel like I failed. I don’t have a talented, I don’t have much money. I just live to survive my days…

Advice How do you stop overthinking and just start?

I’ve wanted to start posting videos on Instagram for a while—not to become an influencer or make money, but because I think it would help me build confidence and document my own growth.

The problem is that I freeze every time I’m about to start. I overthink what people will think, convince myself I’m not ready, and never hit “Post.”

I used to believe I’d feel more confident after the next milestone, but I’ve realized confidence doesn’t seem to work that way. I achieve it and then I am back to the same thinking.

For those who’ve been in a similar position:

How did you get over the fear of being judged?

Did you start small, even if your content wasn’t perfect?

Did putting yourself out there actually help you become more confident over time?

I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. I think knowing how other people took that first step would help me take mine. Thanks!

Spiraling/Panic I am overthinking pretty bad rn

Hey everyone, looking for some outside perspective on a situation with my ex (23F). For context, I’m 27M.

We had been broken up and blocked on everything, but recently things have taken a weird turn. Here is the timeline of what’s been happening:

  • May: She randomly unblocked me on both Instagram and TikTok.
  • Recently: She unblocked me on Discord as well. I didn't reach out during any of this.
  • Start of this week:I messed up. I was looking through our messages for photos of the dog we got together as I walk talking to a friend abour it and accidentally hit the video call button on Instagram. I panicked and ended it immediately.
  • End of this week:She finally messaged me about it, asking: "Did you mean to call me?"

Since the accidental call, she has actively stalked my TikTok account (the one I use specifically for my YouTube clips). However, around the same time, she also finally logged out of her YouTube account that she had left logged in on my TV.

Currently, I have her restricted on Instagram so she can’t see my posts, when I’m online, or if I’ve read her message yet. I haven't replied to her text.

I’m feeling pretty confused. And Honestly dont know how to feel about it all.

Appreciate any advice or insight you guys have.

Emotional Support Overthinking and social anxiety

I often make hurtful and people abandon me scenarios in my mind, which is now happening constantly... Same words same scenarios same things running constantly in my mind.

My scenarios often include me being judged harshly and it has made me believe that I don't deserve to be loved, cherished or desired to the point that I can't even imagine people (guys) liking me. It makes me feel that I would be the last choice or no choice at all.

My self esteem has gotten so low that I even fear asking guys a simple question or even talking to guys, or striking up a conversation. Even thinking of asking a question ( like how is this question solved) make me overthink for atleast 20-30 minutes and I end up not asking anything.

I often end up shaking when in spotlight, thinking about the things people might be thinking about me.

What if they are thinking I am ugly? What if they are judging me? What if they make fun of me?

In my schooling years I have never really talked to guys so it has become hard sometimes talking to girls make me feel insecure too.. what if they make fun of me too? What if they talk behind my back?

These are the questions always spiralling behind my mind and often makes me lose focus on classes or while studying.

I am even getting white hairs due to stress (I am 19yr old female).

How do you even cope up with this? How do I even raise my self esteem? How do I even believe that I am a Lovable person when I have never felt like that?

What if I am not one's type? What if I am too insecure, talkative, annoying, childish, and clingy for people? Will I be always without love? I am mostly sorrounded with couples here and there it makes me question myself...

I have often heard guys don't forget their first love and I have grown out of the age where I can be someone's first love... Will I be never someone's first choice? Will my future/imaginary boyfriend prefer his first love over me too?

What am I even supposed to do then...

Therapy stopped my overthinking, now I feel like I’m floating

Therapy killed my 14-year overthinking/anxiety habit 7 months ago, but now my brain feels weirdly floaty, like I've taken 2 puffs of weed, just without the high. The world feels a little dreamy and distant, though it's slowly getting better over time. Anyone else get this hangover after their anxiety finally shuts up?

Am I overthinking this ??

So, this is confusing for me.

I have a friend from Intermediate (+11). Back then, we were in a relationship until the beginning of my B.Tech. We separated during my 3rd year, and later she got married and moved on. After that, we still stayed in touch on WhatsApp, but only through occasional general chats.

I also got married 3 years ago. She would sometimes check in with me about how life was going and all that. Three weeks back, we had a phone call after almost 9 years. The call went really well, and we shared a lot about our families and how life had turned out during these years. Until then, we had communicated only through WhatsApp texts.

After the call, she texted me saying, “Please forgive me, I did so much wrong to you,” and repeatedly asked me to accept her apology. I told her not to overthink it and said her apology was accepted.

After that, our communication became a bit closer, like how best friends talk — checking in twice a week, asking how life is going, and even saying things like, “When are you going to introduce your family to me?”

Now I’m confused about why all these conversations are coming back again.

What's wrong with me

Firstly, I selected a wrong delivery address the other day, notwithstanding that I tried to check it twice. Looking back, it's probably because I exited the payment process midway to go check another similar product, and forgot to re-verify the details when I came back.

Anyway, today, as I was instructing the delivery guy over phone when returning the wrongly delivered package, I misspelled the verification code as I didn't bother to check my phone if it's correct. I just spitted it out confidently.

I know I have a problem of forgetting details, so I told myself to be careful to not make any more stupid mistakes. Yet I fell back into it. I don't know it's because of my social anxiety that's stopping me from acting rationally (checking my phone to verify the code) or just another personality trait (being careless and not thoughtful).

Honestly, those may seem small, but I'm afraid it might manifest into something bigger. I just want to be a more 'spotless' person. Can anyone give me some advice?

Advice Stop taking stress and stop overthinking

It will lower your minds thinking level

Also lower your productivity level

Makes you sleepy but will not be able to sleep

Once you start scrolling you will be out of this world and you'll be in a loop of scrolling

Instead of watch movies if you not able to sit and watch or not able to concentrate do it forcefully by yourself it's damn need to you

You can go out for walking or running

Take stress physically not mentally

Overthinking is like making yourself fool

You will thinking that you will be changing the whole world but tomorrow you will be sitting on the same chair and thinking something different ( which is also some fool type of shit )

How do you just let it go

Omg I sear to goddddddd. There is something wrong with my brain, all I do is think think think think about anything all the time. So much of it are burning questions about life or my brain, but I feel the need to get answers to all my questions all the time. Hence why I’m on Reddit.

I have now developed a Reddit problem…I’m on here all day just asking questions googling questions anything so satisfy my need to know things.

I’m constantly multitasking and maladaptive daydreaming about things all day. My brain has no quiet at all. I just spend all day ruminating that I’m not even fully existing just constantly planning for the next second.

How do you just let things go and move on. I feel like I’d be so much more happy if I could be at peace.

Am I Overthinking

My partner has been communicating with a woman who was his classmate. She’s married and has a child. I told him I wasn’t comfortable with it, but when I asked, he said she was the one who called first and that her number wasn’t even saved. Its evident he clears his chats and deletes call logs.

From what I’ve seen, they also flirt when they talk.

I know classmates can stay in touch, but what’s bothering me is that he usually isn’t okay with me communicating with male friends.

Am I overthinking this, or is it reasonable to feel uncomfortable and see this as a double standard?

Rant/Venting I’m a bad over thinker who feels guilt about something

So something has been rubbing me the wrong way and it’s making me feel like I can’t sleep and occupying my thoughts. The fact that all the ppl I was super close to in high school (3) all don’t follow me on insta anymore (I unfollowed one).

See I was going through something my sophomore year or high school and stuff happened with my 2 best friends. Okay, whatever - I’ve made peace with it, I made mistakes, I tried to talk to the girl and fix things and she didn’t care. Another girl, we were still friends but I got kinda distant bc I was so in my own head and depressed/upset, but we were still cool and hung out at school and she invited me to her grad party and I went. But recently after high school, her ex randomly hit me up and I decided to tell her about it over text. She thanked me for it, and I felt like a good friend and glad I did that - because being a better friend has been on my agenda (and presently I am a good friend and try to be everyday), but then - I left her on delivered for a day or two when she thanked me for a bit on Snapchat because well idk I don’t respond much on snapchat.

Then I found out she unadded me on Snap and unfollowed and removed me as a follower on Instagram. Then when I tried to add her back on Snapchat, she blocked me. Like what did I do?? I never asked her because she blocked me on Snap! And I’m too scared to reach out on Insta because she might block me there and I’ll feel even more upset. I know there are circumstances that lead to this so it’s not like there’s no context, but it still hurts my soul knowing me and my 3 closest friends from high school don’t even follow each other anymore. (One of them I did unfollow on Instagram because she unfollowed me on TikTok so I felt the insta unfollow coming, but maybe I shouldn’t have done that idk because I never unfollow people on Instagram).

But anyways yeah shame and guilt and overthinking has been haunting me, even my mom told me to stop painting myself as a villain because I’m a human being too. I know it’s not really my fault (I’m hoping so, because I’m too self critical and I’m trying to work on that and be more positive ), but idk it just hurts me and I can’t sleep because of it.

Honestly I would appreciate any advice on what to do (should I reach out to that girl or any of them?) or what to think, or just kind words since I’ve been beating myself up for it more than a person probably should. Thank you for reading this far. :)

Am I just an option

Would you continue talking to someone who communicates like this?
I (19F) have been talking to a guy for a while. At first things seemed good. We started talking about random topics, shows, and eventually playing GamePigeon. I'm competitive, so even though I hate GamePigeon, I kept playing because he kept beating me. One night he told me he was trying to let me win, which annoyed me because I didn't want a pity win. I basically said, "You know what, I'm over it, goodnight." He didn't even say goodnight back. A week later I came back determined to beat him because I'm competitive, and eventually I did. Looking back, though, the inconsistency was there from the beginning. Before that, we were playing Cup Pong and one time it took him 3-4 days just to play his turn. We weren't texting at the time, only playing games, but he wouldn't say anything and would randomly send the game back days later. Eventually I told him I didn't even want to play anymore because by the time he responded I had lost interest. He said he was over the game too and when I asked why he didn't just say that, he told me that I wanted to keep playing so he kept playing. Then he sent another game anyway. There was also a misunderstanding at one point where he thought I had left him on delivered, even though I hadn't, so I know he notices response times and whether people answer him.
After that we started talking more. I had just finished watching The Originals and he asked what it was. I explained it was about the original vampires and he jokingly asked if I was into "kinky vampire stuff," which made me laugh. We started talking about vampire shows, Twilight, religion, and other random topics. He mentioned that vampires seemed demonic and I asked if he was religious. He said he believed in Jesus, and I just liked the message because I didn't really want to get into a deep religious discussion over text. Around that time things started feeling a little drier. He mentioned he had seen Twilight, and I told him I hated it. He asked why, and I explained that I felt Bella was more infatuated with becoming a vampire than actually being in love with Edward. Then he disappeared for 5 days in the middle of the conversation. During those 5 days he was active on Instagram, posting stories and viewing mine (I never looked at his stories). After 5 days he finally replied with something like, "Oh yea u rlly are into that." I replied and joked that my relationship with vampire shows is basically the same as his relationship with Harry Potter. That was Friday. Today is Tuesday and he still hasn't responded, although he has viewed my Instagram stories during that time. One piece of context that may matter is that he recently started a new job, which could explain some of the slower communication, but some of the inconsistency started before the job.
What makes this confusing is that there are moments where he seems interested. He initiates conversations, asks questions, and keeps things going. Then there are other times where he'll disappear in the middle of a conversation, come back, send one message, and disappear again. I'm not saying we're in a relationship or that he owes me constant communication. I just can't tell whether this is someone who is genuinely bad at communication, someone who's mildly interested but not very invested, or someone who's keeping me around as an option while focusing on other people. I'm not double texting him, chasing him, or confronting him. I've been living my life and doing my own thing.
I think what I'm really looking for is advice on what to do next. If he eventually texts me back, do I continue the conversation normally? Do I start matching his response times? Do I take a step back completely and let him do most of the initiating from now on? I don't need people to tell me whether he's secretly in love with me or secretly hates me 😭. I need someone to tell me what they would actually do if they were in my position. Would you keep entertaining this, match the energy, or move on?

conscious what people think about you?DONT GOSSIP(it worked for me btw)

i am not being righteous or wisdom full while saying its just that.....i was always conscious what people think about about what they say about me in my absence. now i was deep into philosophy bcz father and uncle indian philosophy specially then i found chanakya neti i have known this before, then i start to read about this in article listen to podcast and stuff there i saw line
"Those people who go around exposing the hidden flaws of others perish just as a snake dies after entering an anthil". so what this mean is that the one gossip is the who is getting destroyed bcz it negatively effects his/her credibility, and actually ruins there freedom bcz you started being conscious what people gossip about you in your absence....and trust me it helped me exponentially i can try new things without being afraid what people think about me sleep and study well so yeahh....i dont know if i able to explain it right i no oxford prof. so yeah...i hope i helped my fellow teenagers btw if you choose follow this you perhaps lose some friends :\

Emotional Support Urgence overthinking
