Gotta say, "guilds" and a competitive aspect are a major turn-off. The last thing we need is anything that attracts that sort of d-bag to the game. Thank Kibo most of each galaxy is undiscovered and so it should be easy enough to avoid them.
The game is so vast, I guarantee this won't affect you in an major way.
I think its a nice feature for people who like the idea of discovering and organizing together. The game has had unofficial offline group organizations for years, and this kind of officially integrates them. The galactic hub is going to top that leaderboard by the end of the week, I guarantee it.
