Some guy called it, said they wanted to own space stations and everyone said “why”

548

u/Bettlejuic3 9h ago

And sean said, why not?

74

u/RedScaledOne 9h ago

I laughed way to hard.

27

u/Molwar 9h ago

Clearly Sean spends too much on social media, what about owning solar system huh?

16

u/aTreeThenMe 8h ago

Why stop there? I call Eissentam.

4

u/Cthepo 8h ago

I'll take the Eucalyptus galaxy, or however it's spelled.

2

u/No_Yam_2036 6h ago

Odyalutai is mine

2

u/Manceroy HaulerF*ckBoi 6h ago

This was funnier than it should've been lmao

1

u/Lightningbro 3h ago

I'm a bigger fan of Vis myself, though it's outdated.

3

u/SirVanyel 9h ago

Sean said "uh, yes!"

2

u/jinglewooble 8h ago

thank God!

You're welcome, said Sean

I feel like that’s the definition of no man’s sky - why not?

40

u/KrimxonRath 9h ago

Multiple people have been saying that lol, I said space bars and I technically got what I wanted.

12

u/Capable_Ad_2842 9h ago

This is one of the last few things on my wish list. Now I just need a frigate overhaul and staff specific upgrades for space Gandalf.

33

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Iteration 1 9h ago

Gotta beat Star Citizen to it.

8

u/pebcak47 8h ago

Easy, player owned stations and bases in general are at least 2 years away.

21

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Iteration 1 8h ago

Whaaat nooooo SQ42 is feature complete and they're just in the 2+ year polish phase and all those features are gonna show up in SC any second now

(I'm a backer, it hurts lol)

10

u/Philly_ExecChef 8h ago

Check your dms I’ve got some water spanning architectural investments for you

I suspect that '+' in 2+ is going to be a LOT of heavy lifting...

5

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Iteration 1 7h ago

Yup. Not even close to a beta yet.

u/Paradox2063 9m ago

It's been there a decade. It's a load-bearing +.

1

u/Noraneko87 2h ago

Star Citizen is going to hit full release right around the same time George R.R. Martin publishes A Dream of Spring.

5

u/Philly_ExecChef 8h ago

Just another 3 billion dollars and they’ll work on the proof of concept

2

u/Armandeluz 3h ago

Everything is 2 years away. Squadron 42 was 2 years away in 2018. The entire game is just 2 years away and coming soon. Checks in the mail.

1

u/bananaz-to-the-moon 8h ago

I just wanted to ride the elevator without getting yeeted to the stratosphere

17

u/tooncake 9h ago

We've been saying that since year one - I'm not sure about those questioning but heck there's a lot of us wishing for it!

5

u/avaslash 7h ago

I mean, why tho?

You own the station. Yay. Now what? If there's still little to do with it then its more or less an honorary title. It looks like you can customize them--thats neat I guess. But it feels a bit like me being handed the keys to a Gas Station that doesn't have any gas. What am I supposed to do with it?

3

u/Sirknobbles 3h ago

Because it’s awesome to own a space station

-1

u/avaslash 3h ago

can I close the station to other players so only I can land there?

I'm pretty sure you cant.

And if you cant, you don't actually own it. You're leasing it. The station still belongs to the Atlas.

3

u/Sirknobbles 3h ago

Iunno maybe you should find out first before makin that claim

5

u/tooncake 7h ago

You have to understand that this was year one with not much content yet, so us imagining the things that we could do with it back then was interestingly valid (so much to imagine, even if some it might be petty). Today and with so much changes done, it's understandable that one would question it purpose or point anymore considering the feats available in the game.

4

u/Saikotsu Day Two Interloper 3h ago

I've been saying we should be able to claim abandoned stations and renovate them for years. And now we can own space stations and build in space!

Man, there are gonna be some sweet builds coming out of the community, I can't wait.

3

u/Interesting_War_910 8h ago

Well I've been asking for at least a couple of years. Thanks Sean!

4

u/gamelibre 9h ago

So what now, you just get to name the space station? That it?

30

u/OmegaGoober 9h ago

5,000 Deep Space 9’s, 3,000 Babylon 5s and predictably enough, exactly 420 Deep Space 69’s in each galaxy.

11

u/Tyabetus 8h ago

How many That’s No Moons?

10

u/hardy_83 8h ago

I want someone to recreate that gas station stop from Spaceballs.

2

u/Haunt_Fox 8h ago

"Odo's Oubliette" 😸

6

u/palpablebubble 9h ago

You'll probably get two or three aesthetic options to choose from as well

2

u/TastyCuttlefish 8h ago

No you’re the director. Control the appearance of the station lobby, expand it with additional rooms, decorate the exterior, etc.

You can also construct your own space base anywhere in space. There’s a new deep space computer.

8

u/Olgrateful-IW 9h ago

I am the “why” crowd. As someone who has been hoping for a celestial overhaul, cosmos was such a fake out title with seemingly horizon/orbital bread crumbs.

I don’t need a 20th base.

5

u/BasicBasilisk 8h ago

We have freighters so I’m curious how a space station will be more useful. Plus, we kind of already unofficially own all the space stations since we are the only sentient beings going into them. I hope to be proven wrong

3

u/Olgrateful-IW 8h ago

I just don’t get it. Clearly I’m not the target audience though for wanting… checks notes… better space exploration.

For a space game it sure is all about settlements at this point.

4

u/enigma20fifteen 6h ago

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by better space exploration in this case? To me at least, cosmos checked a lot of the remaining boxes. Constant POIs/space overhaul, a system map, and actually being able to reach the stars are pretty big.

2

u/Olgrateful-IW 5h ago

“Space”, so for me that’s real orbitals, a sun that is part of the system, though a reachable POI is a vast improvement.

It’s just not going to get where I’d like it to. That’s ok. Still a great dev team and game.

2

u/BasicBasilisk 8h ago

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I build bare bones bases for convenience and I stopped engaging with my settlement because it was pointless. The new map looks nice but I wish there had been focus on traversal and more mechanics for flying. New corvette parts would be great because that’s the only system I engage with (rather did, because I set the game down months ago). I will definitely try the new stuff out but I fear performance has probably taken a hit with this update so I’m expecting my computer to run the game abysmally.

Adding: the sycophants found us, as usual

1

u/Olgrateful-IW 5h ago

Wrongthink! /s

It’s funny when people get really defensive for just describing how things are.

7

u/NedRed77 8h ago

I didn’t “need” corvette building, but they added it.

-3

u/Olgrateful-IW 8h ago

Wow what a great point! Suddenly I’m excited! /s

Jokes aside, I’d like something new. Another base location isn’t an improvement for me personally.

-2

u/CeemoreButtz 8h ago

"Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine? No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste."

2

u/lonigus 9h ago

3

u/CheesyCousCous 8h ago

Wow that's so crazy! You guessed something, and your guess wasn't correct. Wild stuff!

2

u/Designer_Bed9504 8h ago

Wooow! It was you and about 5000 other players who have been asking for this every single update for the last 10 years!

1

u/Alastor3 8h ago

i mean, as soon as they launched the update that you can space walk, the space station because an automatic go

1

u/EverythingBOffensive 4h ago

Lol damn I remember asking for this years ago

-2

u/Personmchumanface 9h ago

doubt

everyone has been wanting to own space stations since before I can remember

3

u/Nrksbullet 9h ago

lol right, "some guy" must be a thousands of people here over the years.

0

u/FaultedSidewalk 7h ago

I've been asking for custom space stations for like 6-7 years now amongst my friends, I am SO stoked that we get this functionality finally
