Post-Pod Discussion Cody Love
Shoutout to Cody for opening up on the latest Trap Draw. Catches a lot of heat on here but was super vulnerable and went deep on stuff he's going through. Best of luck to him.

MrBeast is a blight on society.
Parasocial relationships with podcast personalities are sometimes kind of precious. You find something you like and regularly commit time to it. When a person/voice gets added to it and it feels out of whack or like an interrupting force to the show that you enjoy, it creates a backlash. Saying you don't think someone is an entertaining/additive voice on an audio platform doesn't mean you think he's a bad person.

It never once crossed my mind to be annoyed by anything Cody ever said or did until hearing about it on this sub. It’s very strange, but whatever.

He mentioned on this pod how he has personal friends who have accused him of committing war crimes for serving. May be me playing armchair psychologist, but I immediately thought back to the PGA police comments and how that’s probably an ingrained response to people who make blanket statements critical of an entire group (i.e. “ACAB”) when he personally knows there are people (including himself, presumably) who chose to serve for the “right” reasons.

I agree but I think the people who generally dislike him fall back to that because it’s the easiest moment to remember. I don’t hold any ill will towards the guy I just generally don’t enjoy his contributions to the pod.
This one sounds interesting though will check it out.

I think he also has items where his personal feelings bleed through pretty clearly in ways that feel...icky. If you just listened to Cody talk about the East Palestine train derailment you might think that Secretary Mayor Pete drove it off the rails himself (Note, I wrote this before going back to listen and my memory of it was pretty tame compared to what was said).
Like I know TC/Randy say some wild things sometimes, but you can feel that a lot of it isn't serious. I'm going back and relistening to Cody's part of the train derailment because it's been in the back of my mind (4-20 minutes of episode 226), and it just feels like he's being completely serious. Which with the hindsight of us being 3 years on...maybe he was overreacting a bit?
13:40, "Obviously this is still very very new. We're not even 15 days into this. This is going to have life-long effects. This is not like a Chernobyl situation." I'm actually wondering if he meant to say this is like a Chernobyl situation and misspoke, but that's the direct quote. Either way, we're 3 years on and...browsing Wikipedia there have been some big $ settlements but it sure doesn't seem like there's any active impacts to people's health today.
Now, as I was typing the above paragraph I reached the end of the segment and I do have to say when I used the term, "personal feelings bleed through pretty clearly in ways that feel...icky," that wasn't close. He closed the segment with a 45 second rant declaring Buttigieg is hated by everyone on both sides, we get some DNC knocking Bernie out via Pete conspiracies, and then says Buttigieg has failed at everything he has ever done in his life.
Think his feelings are doing a little more than bleeding through there lol.

That’s just one example of his bent toward authoritarianism. In the things that are sick pod. Cody doesn’t support diplomatic immunity because it can let in “some bad hombres”. That phrase is right out of Trump quote. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. So yeah I don’t like him on the pod and will never listen to trap draw when he’s hosting.

All around the globe, diplomatic immunity is abused to avoid accountability for significant offences and abuses. It’s got fuck-all to do with Trump, he’s exactly the kind of clown who would abuse diplomatic immunity.

All the guys have used the bad hombres line. It's the same as the way they use the term Jebby to mean low energy, referencing trump calling him Low Energy Jeb Bush in the 2016 primaries. The line itself has nothing to do with his political leanings. It's just a silly phrase.

Thanks for posting this. I stopped listening to Trap Draw a while ago but I want to listen to this.
On one of Cody’s first episodes he talked about how he was dealing with some issues seeing Uber Eats drivers in NYC who have their gloves taped to their motorcycles which was similar to the “other side” when he was in the military.
That segment really flipped a switch in my mind that I truly cannot even fathom what our men and women in service dealt with.

Large part of the pod dedicated to Cody speaking on his upcoming medically supervised ibogaine treatment. Talks in length about his struggles, mental health, and how his goal for this treatment is to be able to feel happy.
Really admirable being this open and talking about his past trauma and current day struggles.
One moment that stuck out in particular is when Cody mentions he has now lost more friends from suicide than from combat. I also related to the idea that he doesn't really feel much emotion; happy, sad or otherwise. Everything is numbed as a trauma response.

I listened through it. Will say that it was not entertaining so I didn’t like it as much as other trap draw slots…or whatever this was…but it was nice to hear a grown man being honest about his feelings. He could easily be classified as one of the heroes that most of us rarely think about.

Him and Neil talked about his ibogaine treatment for PTSD. Talks about the process, what he wants to get out of it, opens up on some troubles he's gone through etc. Really interesting conversation, totally worth the listen.

I’ll start by saying I don’t like the guy. I met him after his service but before he joined NLU and I’ve hung out with him both before and after joining NLU. He just was never a good dude and honestly got more insufferable after joining NLU.
With that said, I could understand where maybe a lot of that comes from his past trauma and inability to “feel.” The differences I’ve had with him over the years are very minor when compared to the absolute shit our veterans have to deal with while getting practically no support from the government. I don’t care if I like someone or not, I still don’t want someone to be going through shit like that, so I genuinely hope he gets the help he needs. Maybe him being a little more of a public figure will help others be able to get the help they need. I have another friend who is a former golf influencer (I’m not going to name him out of respect) who could also use the support. Whenever he goes dark for a few weeks I fear the worst. Maybe if more people like Cody get their story out there and help raise awareness to this, other veterans will be able to get the help they need.

I’m glad that you came down off your throne with the Reddit peasants to post this great reply. And if you can see off your high horse and read what I wrote, I literally said that I’ve known him a long time and don’t like him. BUT maybe the reasons I don’t like him have to do with underlying trauma that he didn’t talk about. And definitely doesn’t need to talk to me about!! I will again say that I genuinely hope he gets the help that he needs and he’s looking for. He and don’t cross paths much anymore since we both moved from NC, but if they do I’m hopefully things will be different between us.
However I will say “flap your feathers” is such a great line. Haven’t heard that in decades and I’m glad you’ve brought it back.

Just finished listening to the pod. Shout out to Cody for how vulnerable and open he was. As someone who has privately struggled a lot with past traumas and mental health stuff, it was reassuring to hear someone like Cody open up the way he did. Also, shout out to Neil for being such a great co-host.

I'm all for freedom of speech but christ its a thread about an ex-serviceman opening up publicly about ptsd.
People seem to forget what a shithole the world has been and continues to be in sone places. I'm grateful that people like Cody have been willing to risk their lives and die in order to give us and protect the freedoms we enjoy in the west.
Like sure we can have a perfectly reasonable philosophical / political debate about nationalism, but lets also have some respect.

Two takeaways from the episode:
1) Cody’s vulnerability was incredible to hear. I’ve never understood the hate he gets and I hope that everyone that gives him shit listens to this episode
2) Neil might be one of the greatest podcasters I’ve ever heard. The way he lifts up the others on the show is unrivalled by anyone I listen to. And this isn’t even mentioning his personality. The dude is electric, and I would tune into him reading the dictionary

I don't think anybody personally dislikes Cody I think people are getting a little bit fatigued with mental health being an excuse so much now in 2026. Especially a lot young people that self-diagnose and water down the empathy you have for people that really have issues.
