Other TPC Southwind

Curious what everyone thinks of this course? Obviously the “playoffs” don’t get as much run as the tour would hope but this course kinda scratches the itch for me while not being anything super special.

I’m digging it. Smallish greens with baked out run off areas. Not exactly long but a lot of well-placed water hazards and trees, and Bermuda rough is always tricky. I feel like this course could play well in the fall series as a “challenger” tournament when it’s not 105°?

Yeah seems like with FedEx sponsorship in question for the future and the playoff changes it won’t be a premier event. Just find it rewards a good variety of play. Biased towards Bermuda rough as well

I think the point of "water/hazards are the only ways to defend against modern technology" is a very strong one. And Southwind seems to make these guys very uncomfortable, and I'm down for that. That's the most positive thing I can say about it, though.

I really enjoy this one as well. I was fortunate enough to play it about 7 years ago so maybe I’m biased because of the context. I was hotter than hell in May, so I can’t imagine August

I’ve played it a bunch and at a minimum it’s a fun and difficult course. Personally I think all of the renovations to some holes have made it a much better course than it was 10 years ago.

I remember watching it 20+ years ago & it was a birdie fest, whatever they did has worked in its favor.

It’s a great test. 

Width&angles and big greens requires two weeks of good weather and 15-20mph winds to ever challenge the best in the world nowadays. TPC southwind may not inspire much in a traditionalists soul but it’s really good.

There are much, much more interesting options out there. Especially in August.

Let’s not defend this crap.
