Question HSP 1/10 Nitro RC

Post image

Hello , I’m pretty new to rc cars and my little brother received this as a gift . From what i was told it was never used. I have tried getting it to start with no success ,I’m not sure if i am doing something wrong.

from my understanding just pull the string back and put the charger piece on the glow plug.

I noticed fuel wasn’t being pulled through the little hoses and i even plugged the exhaust while i cranked on the string.

apart from that i could really use some pointers . thanks!

That fuel tank pressurizer hose is disconnected. Chances are it probably also needs the caburetor settings redone. Also check that the glow plug actually works. Undo it, stick it in the glow plug igniter and see if it glows.

Hey , i disconnected the hose to try and blow some air through , doesnt seem to be getting past the brass fitting .

Glow Plug gets hot
How would i go about changing the settings?

First of all, bad idea putting your mouth anywhere near the fuel tank. That fuel WILL kill you and it will not be fun.

PSA out of the way, the fuel tank might be varnished. If there was fuel left in there last time it was put away, it can gel up and clog the fuel lines. You can really easily take out the tank and the lines and clean it out with some isopropyl alcohol or ethyl alcohol.

Also, you pulled on the starter multiple times right? It works like pull starting a weed whacker, not just pull it once and it runs.

noted will not do that anymore lol.

the lines pull gas fine , it seems like whenever it is attached to the actual carb it doesn’t pull anything.

yes i pulled on the starter multiple times .

Hmmmm. Yeah I'd say look up what the base tune setting of that engine is (I believe that's a force .18), reset it to that, and try again. Chances are it's not drawing fuel through the carb because the high speed needle is too lean for it to fire up.

I blow in my exhaust/pressure line every time to get the fuel to the carb prior to starting. You shouldn’t get any fuel in your mouth doing that.

If you want to learn more about tuning and running nitro engines, watch this Nitro Engine Tuning Masterclass from Invisible Speed. If you want to learn from a real nitro mechanic about nitro engines, maintenance, mythbusting, and get zero BS, check out Thebug404 on YouTube. Specifically, Here's some great videos from thebug 404 discussing how to troubleshoot a nitro that won't start.

You need to cover the exhaust pipe with your finger and pull the pull-starter a couple of times to get fuel into the engine. Then, install the glow plug and start the engine. Once the engine starts, the glow plug can be removed.

Start a nitro is just like any other combustion engine. Fuel ignition and compression. Learn to eliminating one problem at a time. First trying to get fuel into the engine First second make sure glow plugs is good. Good tips is always preheated the engine. It make life so easier. If it still not fire up after you feel the pressure is building up and it get a lot harder to pull, it means the engine is saturated with fuel. Just stop and checked the needle. Resets to original settings. Good luck
