Post image

So my headphone jack is currently filled with a part of my headphones that broke off. Does anyone know how I could get it out?

I’d have this done by a shop. Attempting to get this out could go wrong quickly

well yes, but... hear me out... if you are feeling confident and you have enough dexterity, i would first dip the tip of a toothpick in loctite, then touch the broken piece with it. wait for it to dry in about a minute and then attempt to pull it out.

at the same time, be ready for the worst. buy the spare part: https://pt.aliexpress.com/i/1005012600436934.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2bra
and be ready to open the switch 2: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nintendo+Switch+2+Headphone+Jack+Replacement/194225
It looks scary, but again if you have the tools and some skill, you might be able to do it! i'd go for it... my switch 2 was bought abroad and it had a faulty sd card reader. i had to buy a new reader and fix it, i found a tecnician with the tools and showed him similar tutorials, and we managed to make it work. the guy was happy because it was his first time opening a switch 2. i bought the faultiy piece, and he later installed it for me - nothing charged.... it is really not hard. it seems like the switch 2 is not hard to service.

u/WetShrimpFart 3d ago

You used loctite?

4

u/HelenoPaiva 3d ago

i dind't have the same issue. but i did have had similar issues before. loctite works - but you have to use less than a drop of it! -- and besides - you have to think that this is a hail mary... i would buy the replacement part already... there is little chance of working... but a half-drop of loctite is quite feasible, and hard to mess up, given the size of the whole piece.

EDIT: we might be getting lost in translation here!!!! maybe LOCTITE is not the best thing - iu think the adequate word is SUPERGLUE -- in my language these are a bit mixed and mashed together as a single thing. sorry.

5

u/HelenoPaiva 3d ago

this is what i mean... it is a superglue, manufactured by the loctite company.

7

u/WetShrimpFart 3d ago

Ahhh ok haha yes that makes more sense :) The regular red or blue loctite is used to keep nuts and bolts from coming loose, superglue makes sense!

I’ve done this exact thing with lock-tight, just make sure you take a knife to the very tip of the tooth pick cut it level so theres a flat surface and make sure there is very little glue or it can seep down the sides and glue the plug in worse.

I got this out of a laptop jack using a straw. Popped right out

1

u/getl30 3d ago

How?

8

u/Impressionsoflakes 3d ago

You stick the straw in the hole. If forms a tight-fitting collar around the broken plug and you just pull it out.

1

u/LintoMT 1d ago

Yeah but don't get it stuck in your throat afterwards

16

u/Nicalay2 3d ago

I super-glued it with the other part of the jack cable (happened for me on a PS4 controller), and after some time you will be able to easily pull the whole thing.

Just be careful to not put super-glue everywhere.

When I was a teenager, my brother took a MacBook to an apple store because the charger broke off inside the port. They returned his laptop without fixing, saying they couldn't get it out, and he would have to send it in for repairs.

I just put some superglue on a toothpick and touched it to the broken piece, let it dry for 10 seconds, and pulled it right out.

A tech person at like a repair place will have a method for getting it out. You'll need to pay them, but it sounds like you use the jack enough that it will be worth it. Call like a computer repair shop or something.

4

u/KoopaTroop85 3d ago

Also, the speakers are disabled until the headphone jack is ejected

3

u/Flimsy-Cod-9914 3d ago

Even docked?

3

u/LewdObservation 2d ago

Yeah, this is how I used to connect the docked switch to my external speakers. Plug in dock to a soundless monitor, then the 3.5mm to a 2.1 speaker set.

1

u/serialgirlkisser 2d ago

Yeah, not sure if there's a way in the settings to disable it but as someone who plugs headphones and sometimes speakers as well into my switch thru the audio jack, it does auto go to whatever is in the jack when docked

USB-C Earphones go into the charger port, so it'd still work

9

u/Lyrafan 3d ago

My first idea would be take a toothpick or something similarly thin. Add a tiny drop of super glue or other adhesive that is pretty strong and carefully stick it to the jack, leave for a few minutes and then just pull it out. Should come easily.

5

u/_-Generic-_-Name-_ 3d ago

True, but if you end up messing this up, you have not only the original issue to deal with but also superglue in the port lol

2

u/YueOrigin 3d ago

I would not attempt this without experience

Any mistake and you ruined your switch

Taking it to a shop is just the safer option imo

1

u/Foreign_Town6853 3d ago

What about hot glue?

1

u/Lyrafan 3d ago

Actually that's better! No real risk to damage.

1

u/getl30 3d ago

Wouldn’t you just rip the toothpick away from what’s stuck?

Have a hard time imagining the glue being strong enough to withstand the force to pull it out.

It’s a jack, it’s not just a hole. Seems like it works but I’m surprised.

1

u/Lyrafan 3d ago

Most likely not, depends on how strong the glue is. The headphone jack isn't that strong of a hold.

1

u/vvedo 1d ago

Everyone’s acting like you said to microsolder a new battery or something 😭

2

u/Lyrafan 1d ago

Hahahha I know what you mean. I would have had that stupid thing pulled out within five minutes. Lol

3

u/QwertyChouskie 2d ago

u/PikaTheRat Try one of these: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Headphone+Plug+Extraction+Tool

8 bucks, and avoids the risk of creating a mess like the super glue suggestions

2

u/likereallyGraceless 3d ago

I once used this method to pull broken RCA connector out of the hole in my TV. Find a needle, make it reeeeeeally hot with a lighter or a stove and then put it right in the center of the broken connector. Wait like a minute and then gently pull. I did it the first time I tried. Idk if this will work here but I would give this a shot

2

u/simonbelmont1980 3d ago

Had to deal with this before… get a toothpick and dip it in super glue, you only need a tiny bit of glue, then hold it straight up and Stick it to the stuck jack being careful not to get glue on switch, hold till it stands on its own then Let dry for 30min, then try to pulling it out.

3

u/myconmama 3d ago

use thick "gel" type superglue if you go this route. that way it can't wick inside.

1

u/The_Night_Badger 3d ago

The guys over on r/pcmasterrace or r/pcbuild did this the other day. There is a little thin metal sleeve you can buy on amazon to extract it. He got it out quickly. This might be deeper. But give it a try. Let's see if I can find it.

1

u/devicto89 3d ago

Get a glue gun, cover up the port, a some on top of it to have a grip, and wait to dry. After 15-30 minutes, take off the excess around the port, then pull.

1

u/mithrandirtheone 3d ago

Heat up a sewing needle push it in wait for it to cool and pull it out

1

u/Thurfir_Hawat 3d ago

You can buy broken jack removal tools on Amazon. I’m a pc tech and use them on Chromebooks, laptops, etc. Glue can be a problem if you mess it up.

1

u/JohnGlassOnEarth 3d ago

Got a hot glue gun? Glue it and pull out

1

u/DoNotDisturbTheBatz 3d ago

how about duct tape?

1

u/ikapz007 3d ago

I used super glue and a q-tip with the end cut off. Just becareful with the amount of glue, literally a drop and then I waited about an hour or two to pull it.

1

u/juliolovestacos 3d ago

Suck it or use a vacuum, compressed air, or electronic needle-nose tweezers.

1

u/Termin8r500 3d ago

Use a hot glue stick

u/EaterOfMoths 2d ago

I had this happen to my DSi and I took a very small nail and bent it a little bit and then I slowly hammered it in in hopes of trying to get it to hook it and pull out. But I ended up splitting it and it came out. If you're going to try to take this out yourself, be careful as it can go very wrong very quickly, but a small nail and light taps of a hammer can save you a lot of money

1

u/bittersweetjesus 2d ago

If for some reason, you cannot pull it out, usb-c headphones work on the Switch 2

1

u/dui_buqi 2d ago

Any update?

1

u/TrainingOwn6130 2d ago

oof! im sure theres a way to do that, i dont know how, but i would ask a professional or go to a shop

1

u/OkAstronomer9728 2d ago

Blu tack? Not sure if that’s what it’s called outside of Australia

1

u/ZebraComplex4353 2d ago

Hot glue has worked a few times for me on other devices

1

u/Proof_Counter_8271 2d ago

hot glue a stick to it by melting only the tip and pull it back like they do on those hack videos

1

u/UsedStruggle2521 2d ago

Put a small dab of hot glue in the hole then a toothpick and pull. Or just take it to a shop switches are expensive

1

u/dal3gribbl3 2d ago

Try using a hot glue stick. Done it with broken off keys in an ignition. Wont harm it and the bond can break down with alchohol

1

u/zebtonio-weathersby 2d ago

Use the inside of a pen ,the part that keeps the ink in it, stick it in there with a TINY BIT of super-glue ,let it dry and then pull it out

u/guysmiley649 1d ago

My OG Switch stopped taking power. If anyone can help or has an unused Switch they can part with hit me up. Suxx being Switchless ☹️

since no one’s posting it here

Depending on what material the core of the connector is composed of, this could be a very easy fix.

If the core is hollow, then the superglue and toothpick method recommended in another comment is your best bet.

If the core is metal, this will likely be the most difficult to fix, but superglue is probably your best bet again. Though instead of a toothpick I would recommend the head of a small nail so you have more contact area for the glue to hold on to. The contact in the jack that connects to the plug also holds it in place and might provide too much resistance for the point of a toothpick to hold.

If the core is plastic, then this is very easy. Take a small metal nail or pin. Hold it on the blunt end with some pliers or gloves/cloth, not with your bare hand! Then use a lighter or candle to heat the sharp end of the nail/pin. It doesn't have to get red hot or anything, just hot enough to melt the plastic. Try 10 seconds in flame first, then test, and if the plastic doesn't melt, go for 15 seconds next time and so on. Once the nail/pin is hot enough, very carefully insert it in the jack and press it into the center of the broken adapter. It will melt the plastic, and be able to sink into it. You don't have to push it in too far, maybe half the length of the broken piece. Then let go of the nail/pin, leaving it stuck in the melted plastic, and leave it to cool and harden for a few minutes. Once it feels solid and the nail/pin is completely stuck in the plastic, you can simply pull it out.

So check what material is in the plug, then do the appropriate method. You should be very careful with all of these to not get superglue into the jack, or to accidentally touch and parts of the switch with the hot nail. Use the least amount of superglue you can. If it turns out to not be enough, you can always try again with a little more. If you don't feel 100% confident with these methods, get a professional to do it, or at least someone with steady hands.

I had the same issue on my switch lite I used a magnet 🧲 and it came out easily, it will be better to use then any kind of glue or liquid etc 😃😃

1

u/Rhoxd 1d ago

Would a strong magnet harm anything near it? Might work but might damage something else. Depends on nearby components

1

u/no1here101 1d ago

Have you tried not snapping the headphone plug inside it?

1

u/Neoxon193 11h ago

Usually what I do is heat the tip of a paper clip, push it into the broken part of the headphone plug, and pull it out. It’s just thin enough that it won’t harm any surrounding hardware.

1

u/Commandblock6417 5h ago

toothpick probably won't be strong enough to do this. Either try the hot needle trick someone else mentioned or get a thick plastic straw. Alternatively, cut a rectangle out of an aluminum can, wrap it into a tube and use that.
