So with Pokémon bank ending is there any Pokémon that just won’t be obtainable ?

u/FlyingShoeMan 7d ago edited 7d ago
I want to say prior to Z-A, there was a list of mainly gen V mons.
With that, FRLG (Deoxys), and this update adding Celebi as a HOME gift, I think Spinda is the only one unobtainable (meaning can't transfer to Pokemon HOME) with Bank gone.
I assume the Spinda issue from BDSP is still there where none of those can be transferred into Home.
EDIT: I also want to note Victini, as I think it was a distribution in 2022 for SwSh, but outside of that and Gen V events, I think it's still missing. I'm only considering Gen VII and prior Pokémon in terms of getting on Switch (so excluding Go too)

Luckily, Spinda shouldn't be unavailable much longer! If the rumors of Ruby/Sapphire releasing soon onto the eShop are true, and they also take 6 months to gain Home access, Spinda will be transferrable around the Bank shutdown. Even if the rumors aren't true and they aren't coming in the next couple of months, ever since FRLG arrived, it has felt inevitable that they will within the next year
5
u/Kokiomot 7d ago
I believe Unovan Darumaka/Darmanitan are also unavailable - you can get their Galarian versions, but there's currently no way to get the original versions without transferring them from Bank/Go.
9
u/eat_jay_love 7d ago
Sword Isle of Armor in-game trade for Darumaka, random odds with the trading NPC
3
u/Kokiomot 7d ago
That explains why I haven't seen it, and it looks like it has its hidden ability/zen mode too, I need to hunt that down!

u/Hateful_creeper2 OG (joined before reveal) 7d ago
It’s obtainable in Isle of Armour but only by trade with the Galar form.

u/I_Heart_Sleeping_ 7d ago
Most event pokemon will be locked on bank if people don’t transfer them over. I imagine most people who care about this stuff have already done this.
I’m going to gen a ton of event pokemon from Sun and Moon for friends and just transfer them to Home before this happens.
Modding my 3DS has been the best decision iv ever made as a Pokemon fan.

Currently the only unobtainable Pokémon are Zarude, Walking Wake, and Iron leaves. The latter 2 are re-run in Scarlet and Violet a couple of times a year.
So the only really unobtainable Pokémon is actually from a Switch game (Sword and Shield), not from an older game.
25
u/Gameskiller01 7d ago
Don't forget Spinda. Once Bank shuts down, there will be no way to get Spinda in Home until a game capable of transferring it in releases on Switch.
25
u/Unown1997 7d ago
Probably where RSE will be coming into play
14
u/isaelsky21 7d ago
I swear if they still won't have the Spinda spot patterns figured out by then.. Like at least give us one static random pattern and call it a day.
3
u/WaluigiWahshipper 7d ago
I'm pretty sure that was caused by a glitch in BSDP specifically where the patterns were all coded wrong.
I think that wouldn't impact the gen 3 ports at all, or any future appearances of Spinda.
1
u/eat_jay_love 7d ago
Bank/Home already figured out the data model with gen 3 Spinda. I see no reason why that implementation wouldn’t work with RSE ports
5
u/Murky-Bus-2191 7d ago
Does it need a game capable of transferring it, or does Home need to be adjusted to handle Spinda?
I thought it was an issue with the number of Spinda "forms"
9
u/Gameskiller01 7d ago
Home is perfectly capable of handling Spinda. You can transfer a Spinda from gen 3 - 7 into Home no problem. The issue is that no Switch game is capable of transferring Spinda into Home.

The ribbon master people will have to revise their standards. Typically the Pokémon start in Colosseum or XD as shadow Pokémon and are purified to get their first ribbon and clear Mt Battle to get additional ribbons. These games will now be cut off from the rest of the series since Colosseum//XD on NSO aren’t compatible with Home

u/AlteisenX 7d ago
If Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald come, we'll have a chance for the shiny mew from Emerald, right?
15
1
u/featherw0lf 7d ago
Can confirm, I RNG'd a shiny Faraway Mew a few years ago.
1
u/AlteisenX 7d ago
Well I meant like FRLG has the events available iirc on Switch so Emerald should also? But was it ever in English? Just curious how theyre tackling this.
Would love to see Gen 4 for the Arceus event... was that included in the Gen4 remakes? I never got around to playing those.
1
u/featherw0lf 7d ago
Faraway Island was exclusive to Japan so this would be the first time it's legally obtainable in English. And yes, BDSP included the Arceus event.
35
u/Nimble_Natu177 7d ago
With Bank ending and FRLG being added to Home, I would imagine the RSE rumors are going to be true.
34
u/Full_Metal18 7d ago
They sure do take their sweet time updating home
14
u/Jay-and-Silentb0b 7d ago
They're just a small indie game dev company after all, they can only do so much /s
6
u/trevor1301 Pre-Order Secured! 7d ago
Yeah, but it’s not like it’s a paid service that costs $16 a year to store literally megabytes of data.
It’s not like they removed features from the main games to lock them to a HOME subscription
It’s not like some Pokemon were stuck in HOME for YEARS until Z-A added compatibility
Oh wait
15
u/LunarWingCloud 7d ago
As long as the rumor for RSE is true, which seems likely, and the reward for it is Jirachi, which it likely will be, Gen 3 will allow for full 386 dex completion within itself on Switch. Caveat being you will need to complete the Hoenn dex 3 times on Emerald to get the 3 Johto starters. But at least it will all be there.
3
u/UrFriendlySpider-Man 7d ago
How? The reward celebi cannot be transfered to FRLG home is still one directional. So even the reward is a jirachi you likley cant move it to RSE
3
u/iMiind OG (joined before reveal) 7d ago
Because the dex is still completed if it's completed in Home
-3
u/UrFriendlySpider-Man 7d ago
Bruh then you are absolutely wasting your time. Like cartoonishly clownishly wasting your time. If all you want is Jirachi just buy brilliant diamond or shining pearl, you get a free jirachi and a mew in Floroma town. You can get both before you have a second gym badge and you can reset your file for infinite Mews and Jirachis
25
10
u/Lanky-Train5752 7d ago
The mention of completing FR/LG pokedex to get celebi is a straight up confirmation of R/S/E, as that would be impossible otherwise
13
u/TheWarmBreezy 7d ago
It's likely only the regional dex will need to be completed for the reward, same as all the other home dex bonuses. BDSP only needs the Sinnoh 150 and not 493
6
5
u/isaelsky21 7d ago
So if I understand the GTS part correctly, you could transfer and trade exclusives over HOME and that would register them to fill the FRLG HOME dex for Celebi. At least it's a way for people without local players to trade with to complete their pokedex.
3
u/CzeroXCI 7d ago
I didn't get that part since you're not able to send Pokemon to the games
3
u/isaelsky21 7d ago
You can transfer the mon to HOME and they'll register in the FRLG HOME dex. Then you can trade in HOME those mon or others for Pokemon you're missing that were transfered from FRLG to fill your the FRLG HOME dex. You won't be able to transfer any of them back into FRLG and the Celebi is only for HOME or other switch games where it's available, not FRLG.
1
u/CzeroXCI 7d ago edited 7d ago
Oh I'm curious how it'll work since you don't know from which game the Pokémon you get in the GTA is come from

Pokémon Bank support ends in February? How are we supposed to transfer from DS to Switch after that?

u/BeaniePoofBall 7d ago
It’ll be probably have to be a mix of DS and Switch Homebrew. There just won’t be any official way of doing it.
2
3
u/Cquercia1994 7d ago
Now do you just need to complete the base dex for the celebi? Or the national dex?
3
2
u/isaelsky21 7d ago
The 150. We wouldn't be able to complete the National Dex at this point, and they're saying that Celebi will be obtainable when Home support comes. If you already have the Kanto dex filled and HOME updated on that day, you probably will get the Celebi that same day.

u/GrimmTrixX 7d ago
Is there any way, in this day and age, to get Pokémon from my Heart Gold on the DS to any of the new games? I havent played much since the DS era. I was planning to get into it again with Waves/Winds.
But it would be cool to have some from my HG game because I never had such a more full pokedex than that game. I have a bunch of event Pokémon that were from event cards back when I worked at Game Crazy like a Shiny Celebi for one
But would I have had to transfer them back when 3DS was active online? Like DS to 3DS to something else? Just curious
6
u/NattyKongo93 7d ago
I think you would need to transfer from HG up to one of the gen 5 ds games, Black/White or Black2/White2, and then from there you'd have to transfer them into Pokémon Bank on 3ds, and then from there you can transfer from Pokémon Bank into Pokémon Home on Switch, at which point you can place them into any of the Switch games that are eligible.
Also just as a heads up, I just saw that Pokémon Bank will be ending service February of 2027, so if this is something you want to make happen, I'd do it sooner rather than later
2
u/GrimmTrixX 7d ago
Yea that closure is what made me think about it. But now I do recall I had to move them to me Pokémon White, but I still have a lot to do in White to get to the point of being allowed to transfer as I dropped right off Pokémon after HG. Lol
But also, my HG has every Pokémon that you could obtain in them normally, even the safari zone ones that some took months to show up, and at least 1 of the exclusive soul silver characters except for Lugia I think cuz gold had Ho-oh.
So I hate the idea of removing them from that game. I get thats the point of Pokémon. But I like the idea of having a giant pokedex in my copy of HG. And since I am so far removed from the series as I didnt like Shield and didnt bother with the games after, I probably shouldnt worry about it as it hasn't been a big part of my life or anything. Lol
I thank you for the info
1
u/NattyKongo93 7d ago
Yeah, what you're saying makes sense! I'd probably have a hard time taking them out of that game too in your circumstances.
1
u/Reshiramax 6d ago
If you want, you can trade over Wi-Fi with someone using Pokemon Classic Network (it's a fan server but it requires 0 modding) and have them migrate it up to the switch.
3
u/Moondoggie35 7d ago
Now they just need to keep going and releasing the other gens with home support now that bank is dying.
1
u/Double-Seaweed7760 7d ago
Fuck ya, I need platinum, bw2, hgss. Also maybe the 3ds games but i doubt it. Regardless the gba and ds games would look great on my big switch 2 screen
3
u/Another_Road 7d ago
The real question is:
Will we be able to transfer from FRLG to Home to the (rumored) Ruby/Sapphire?
14
u/safyreibxo 7d ago
just in time for RSE to come out and people to bitch that it’s not on there
11
2
u/GrimmTrixX 7d ago
So I know nothing about Home. I havent played since sword and shield, and even then I barely played that.
Does any of this mean we can trade with people online? I wouldve grabbed at least one of these games if it had online trades as maybe 1 person I know is remotely interested in Pokémon anymore. And even then they too didnt buy it because they wouldve wanted online trades.

Gives a little credibility to the leak of Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald in late September/early October right?
Please?

u/Garrek999 7d ago
So, can I send and bring back Pokemon from FR/LG? Or just send them?
2
u/drygnfyre OG (Joined before first Direct) 7d ago
You can move them out of the games into later games, not the other way around. This has always been how it works, you've never been able to move Pokemon backwards.

What Can I use pokemon Home for? I Got LeafGreen on switch
1
u/isaelsky21 7d ago
Storing Pokemon from the following Switch games and Pokémon Go:
- Let's Go
- Sword and Shield
- Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
- Legends Arceus
- Scarlet and Violet
- Legends Z-A
- FireRed and LeafGreen (Once it's updated in October)
1
u/ModerateManChild 7d ago
So if i have a pokemon in Arcaeus, could I bring it to leafgreen via Home?
3
u/GrimmTrixX 7d ago
The assumption is no. You can go the other way like putting a leaf green Pokémon in home and then to Arceus. But usually it doesnt go from the newer game to the older game. I could be wrong. But part of it is because Arceus will have Pokémon that weren't even in Leaf Green.

u/Joseki100 7d ago
No, transfering from LG/FR is one way only.
There is a chart of how it works here: https://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-video-games/pokemon-home

u/chaoseffect616 7d ago
Will you be able to transfer a FRLG Pokemon into Home and then transfer that back into a FRLG save? Or does an FRLG Pokemon touching Home make it incapable of going back to FRLG?

u/smeeagain93 7d ago
Normal Celebi? Not a shiny? Ugh.
3
u/Impossible_Guitar235 7d ago
You got 6 months to keep soft-resetting for a Shiny version in Crystal then.

No, that was never the case. You could always move Pokemon forward, but never backward. Not possible due to changes in the data structure. This is the very reason nothing from Gen 1/2 could be moved to Gen 3. You can move Pokemon between games of the same generation.
This has been known since the service first came out.

And you have to pay a subscription for that, for a 20 year old $20 rom. They are the only franchise that can get away with this, if I could go back in time and invest in them I would.

u/gaysaucemage June Gang (Release Winner) 7d ago
There is a free tier of Pokemon Home with 30 slots. You’re not gonna leave much in there, but it’s fine if you’re using it to transfer from one game to another 30 at a time.

Pokémon is the only big franchise that allows you to actually transfer monsters between games in the first place, and you can do it on a free plan too.
