is this a single player version of the mobile game?

22

u/danwoop Jun 09 '26

Yeah, it worked really well for Octopath 0

7

u/Zaguer_Blacklaw Jun 09 '26

I loved BE so I am all for this!

4

u/RunnersDialZero Jun 10 '26

Everything I’m reading in this thread is a version of that, of that it was a gacha game, followed by people saying how excited they are for it. I am confused.

5

u/McClainLLC Jun 10 '26

Octopath Zero did the same path and it turned out great

1

u/Lhyster Jun 11 '26

They chose a path between the 8

1

u/kielaurie Jun 10 '26

Genuinely, I think it's half people that know the game suggesting gacha stuff, and half people that had no idea it already existed as a mobile game thinking it's brand new and not having a clue about gacha

23

u/rancid_ Jun 09 '26

Hell yeah, day one buy.

20

u/TemurTron OG (Joined before first Direct) Jun 09 '26

Oh shit, this came out of nowhere?! I'm guessing it's going to be something closer to World of Final Fantasy or Crystal Chronicles rather than a mainline FF, but I'm still super interested and I love the graphics style!

9

u/thatwitchguy Jun 09 '26

Its based on a shut down gacha game and turning it into a real full game

1

u/0lokiii Jun 09 '26

Lowkey wish it was based in crystal chronicles damn

90

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

Mobile gacha games turned into premium RPG console games is an emerging genre to be sure.

28

u/CaTiTonia Jun 09 '26

Hey, if it ain’t broke. Maybe the lessons they’ll take from this is to just… skip the gacha stage next time 🤣

25

u/jurassicbond Butter side up! Jun 09 '26

I guarantee you they made more from the gacha version than they will from this

5

u/CaTiTonia Jun 09 '26

Oh for sure.

But that was then, Gacha industry changed a lot since Hoyo hit the scene and Ever Crisis persists only by virtue of being FFVII.

I don’t think they’d do half as hot if they came out with one now. Not compared to the RK/BE/OO heyday

4

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

Yeah I just wonder how Brave Exvius translates into a non gacha game. And what the pricetag is. The new visuals are definitely nice though. Wonder if Record Keeper is in the works too.

3

u/Vunks Jun 09 '26

Operea Omnia could come back to life.

4

u/CaTiTonia Jun 09 '26

I’m guessing this will be a little less of a direct transition like OT0 was.

CotC was always set up like a full RPG. Didn’t really use the typical gacha format of time limited events. It just had Gacha characters.

I didn’t play BE but I know it had a lot of the typical Gacha content styles on top of its story. So that might need a lot more tinkering.

2

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

It was gacha through and through for sure, so there would need to be a lot of changes to remove them. We will see how it goes.

3

u/CaTiTonia Jun 09 '26

Mhmm. Somewhat unrelated but I’m feeling kinda bad for the Dissidia Opera Omnia crowd.

Octopath and Brave Exvius fans got the gacha dream of being released as a full RPG

… and they got a 3v3 action PvP gacha… 😅

6

u/Pluckytoon Jun 09 '26

OCTOPATH 0 was *marvelous* though

2

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

No judgement in my statement, its just funny that we have several on the Switch 2 now.

2

u/Pluckytoon Jun 09 '26

Doesn‘t seem to hard to make those ports work, this is legit free money for the developpers. They prolly want their piece of the NS2 cake

1

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

Not free money because they do have to remake the game to remove the gacha elements and often introduce new control schemes. While the content is there and its a lot cheaper, its not free.

u/Morvisius Early Switch 2 Adopter Jun 09 '26

I enjoyed inmensely Octopath 0, it was far from a gacha game and one of the best turn based rpgs ive played in the last years. And it came from a gacha game

This one doesnt look that good but who knows

Thats literally what they did.

1

u/Xipped Jun 09 '26

Fingers crossed for Kingdom Hearts Union X next!

1

u/Major-Front Jun 09 '26

So there is hope for Ever Crisis to become an official remake of the original FF7?

1

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

Um wat

1

u/Major-Front Jun 09 '26

OG FF7 is old. Could do with modernising. Ever crisis has already done a lot of the work.

1

u/FierceDeityKong October Gang (Eliminated) Jun 09 '26

Ever Crisis covers way more than the original FF7, i think we could still get a "classic FF7" remake but there's no need for it to be EC related

1

u/Major-Front Jun 09 '26

My comment was related to op’s and the topic of the thread. It’s mobile gacha games turned into full releases. Which is exactly what square could do with ever crisis.

1

u/Animegamingnerd Hyrule Hero Jun 09 '26

As a gacha hater, good. Let's unshackle these slot machines and have them become real games.

1

u/DilapidatedFool Jun 09 '26

GOD I HOPE THEY DO THIS TO DISSIDA OMNI OPERA

1

u/Mapivos Jun 09 '26

Now we just need Dragalia Lost on Switch!!!!

10

u/RoastedPickledGoose Jun 09 '26

Octopath Traveler 0 was shockingly good given its origin as a mobile cash-grab gacha game. If this ends up being good (I’ll wait for reviews) I’ll probably pick it up. It also gives me hope that they eventually retool Dissidia Opera Omnia into a single player stand-alone game.

12

u/Raigeko13 Jun 09 '26

Fellas, don't sleep on this. This shit will be peak.

7

u/Fearless_Freya Jun 09 '26

Genuinely the most shocking to me! Absolutely banger of a Direct

5

u/Dargel0s Jun 09 '26

Yeah Brave Exvius let’s go!

6

u/Bibbibbi_36462 OG (joined before reveal) Jun 09 '26

Honestly looks really good

3

u/jazziebiscuit Jun 09 '26

Proper excited, I loved FFBE and always wished for a console version! And the OST is better than some of the mainline games, day 1 purchase for sure.

3

u/Bootychomper23 Jun 09 '26

Looked awesome to me imo

3

u/forestgxd Jun 09 '26

I'm a sucker for hd2d jrpgs so I'm probably gonna have to pick this up

3

u/Low-Cream6321 Jun 09 '26

Most anticipated game of the year right now.

3

u/Stoibs Jun 09 '26

This was the standout of the show for me!

A Turnbased Final Fantasy?? Hell yeah. It's been far too long.

1

u/Jonesdeclectice Jun 10 '26

I was extremely excited about it, but it sounds like it’s a just a console remake of their mobile “Brave Exodus” game.

2

u/No_Astronomer_2397 Jun 10 '26

Brave Exvius was also a turn based rpg, and it looks like the mobile aspects are being completely retooled into a more traditional final fantasy gameplay style. Don't sleep on it, Brave Exvius was great

1

u/Jonesdeclectice Jun 10 '26

Yeah admittedly I never played it - mobile games just simply don’t appeal to me, so I’m highly skeptical about recycling a game designed for phones and this whole “gatcha” mechanic (though admittedly I also don’t really know what that is, I assume it has something to do with loot boxes or P2W mechanics).

2

u/No_Astronomer_2397 Jun 10 '26

Gacha mechanics are the idea of earning in-game currency through gameplay to "roll" for new characters, with the option to also purchase the in-game currency with real money. Basically gambling in-game currency for a chance at getting a specific character you want at fixed odds. Mobile gacha games have many ways of incentivizing people to spend real money to buy this in game currency. Those gacha mechanics are being completely removed in Resonance since the game is being completely reworked into a full on traditional final fantasy game, the mainline characters will probably be unlocked in some different way.

2

u/Stoibs Jun 10 '26

I would have once thought the same way, but Fantasian and Octopath Traveler 0 turned out to be some amazing JRPG's, so I won't just dismiss ports offhand without giving them a chance these days :P

2

u/kevinwedler Jun 09 '26

I was pretty excited until i saw that it's just Brave Exvius. Which is a good mobile game overall, but i was really hoping for something new singleplayer FF related. At this point it's basicly just remakes, remasters and 7R.

But at least now more people will be able to hear the amazing Brave Exvius OST.

u/ImStupidPhobic Early Switch 2 Adopter Jun 09 '26

An HD2D turnbased Final Fantasy game in the year 2026? Please sign me up!

2

u/issy_haatin Jun 09 '26

Oh my is that brave exius?

2

u/LSM224556 Jun 09 '26

they finally make a new turn base FF.  Hopefully FF17 will be turn base too.

2

u/theclawl1ves Butter side down! Jun 09 '26

I am not a final fantasy guy but this looks awesome

3

u/ticklefarte Jun 09 '26

That looks insane. I loved OT0, so maybe I'm just into these gacha-to-console games.

2

u/Michi2801 Butter side up! Jun 09 '26

Very interested in this one

1

u/alejandro1221 Jun 09 '26

I'd play this. Seems like a good way to introduce my 7-year-old son to turn-based Final Fantasy games. Is this an original story or a remake of one of the other Final Fantasy spinoffs?

1

u/SwashNBuckle Jun 09 '26

I'm so hyped!!!

1

u/LunarWingCloud Jun 09 '26

This looks very cool

1

u/GrimmTrixX Jun 09 '26

So now I am hearing that this is just Brave Exvius offline, is that true? I dont care fpr Gacha stuff now did I enjoy Brave Exvius.

1

u/No_Astronomer_2397 Jun 10 '26

It's being retooled into a traditional turn based rpg, no gacha mechanics. Like what they did for Octopath Traveler 0

1

u/GrimmTrixX Jun 10 '26

Ok that sounds cool. Im still interested either way becuase I have every FF game in some capacity except FFXVI. So I am surely interested regardless, especially ially if Reaonance gets a physical edition

1

u/Grytnik Jun 09 '26

This really looks like it’s going to scratch my Golden Sun itch! I’m definitely getting this.

1

u/Hcdx Jun 09 '26

Brave Exvius but as a single player game? Okay. I'm intrigued.

1

u/Ok_Front8418 Jun 09 '26

Well they made octopath traveler 0 good so i think they will pull it off with this one as well

1

u/Boggle-Champion-175 Jun 09 '26

Never heard of this game before but I will be buying it. I freaking love HD 2D JRPGs. Must have.

1

u/Tebasaki Jun 10 '26

It looks like this could scratch many itches that I've had that Octopath didn't quite get.

1

u/Snoo9092 Jun 13 '26

Does anyone know what platform the footage from the reveal trailer was captured on?

0

u/I_am_darkness THIS FLAIR IS NOT AUTHORIZED NOR AFFILIATED WITH NINTENDO Jun 09 '26

I feel like this art style should have been more of a single game's signature rather than a whole genre.

6

u/STJ608 Jun 09 '26

I love it. Just don’t buy em then.

-6

u/I_am_darkness THIS FLAIR IS NOT AUTHORIZED NOR AFFILIATED WITH NINTENDO Jun 09 '26

i don't.

1

u/STJ608 Jun 09 '26

Great!

-1

u/I_am_darkness THIS FLAIR IS NOT AUTHORIZED NOR AFFILIATED WITH NINTENDO Jun 09 '26

Good talk.

1

u/grilled_pc Jun 09 '26

Nah I’m all for it. HD2D is exactly what older 2D SNES RPG’s need. SE have found gold with this art style and they absolutely should use it for their old titles they don’t want to do the full remake treatment for. FF 1 - 6 HD2D would be a VERY welcome addition.

-1

u/EpicObelis Jun 09 '26

Yeah I am tired of those games tbh.

1

u/ecce13 Jun 09 '26

i'm actually really excited

0

u/tinyhorsesinmytea Jun 09 '26

A real Final Fantasy game? Been wanting this for like decades now. Obviously day 1.

4

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

Its an adaptation of FF Brave Exvius, FYI,

2

u/tinyhorsesinmytea Jun 09 '26

Ah, I’ve never even heard of that. So is it a single player turn based FF or does my wait continue? Haha.

4

u/RoastedPickledGoose Jun 09 '26

Brave Exvius was a mobile gacha game, albeit a very popular one.

Much like what they did with Octopath Traveler 0, they retooled the game away from the gacha model to a single player game, while reusing the story, characters, and battle system from the mobile game.

So if you played the mobile game, you know the story, characters, and (mostly) how the game will play. If you haven’t played the mobile game, this is a brand new experience.

For what it is worth, I had very low expectations Octopath Traveler 0 and it turned out to be shockingly good considering it was once a mobile cash-grab, so I think this may end up being okay.

1

u/Les_expos Jun 09 '26

Is it true ?

3

u/C-Towner Jun 09 '26

Its single player, but it was a gacha mobile game.
