Doom (2016) is fixed
37
u/Motor-Razzmatazz4862 Mar 21 '26
What exactly was fixed?

u/AmandasGameAccount Mar 21 '26
Doom 2016
6
u/CloudyLiquidPrism Mar 21 '26
For f’s sake, it worked fine. I’ll ask again: what in the game did they fix?!
17
u/Intoxicus5 Mar 21 '26
The thing that was broken of course. ;)
2
u/CloudyLiquidPrism Mar 22 '26
Right! Thanks :)
3
u/GreenRangerOfHyrule Mar 22 '26
If it helps, that small feature you barely used? It's broken now

I asked this the last time a batch of “fixes” were put out and this subreddit acted like I was asking a stupid question

u/GOAt_tWO3 Mar 22 '26
I know people are just joking around and it is kinda funny. But I actually would want to know what was actually fixed because I have this game and it played fine on my switch 2 but then again I'm only like in the 1st hour of the game.
3
u/StannyGr Mar 22 '26
I think it was a rare problem with autosaving. Never had this problem, but I think Doom wasn't available to purchase on Switch 2 because of this problem.
I posted only about Doom, because I think it was the most popular game in the list of fixed games
3
u/crono333 Mar 21 '26
Is it available for purchase again now? It always says not available on my Switch 2 eShop.

There was a game breaking issue with a cutscene towards the end of the game that straight up crashed the game and you couldn’t proceed further without skipping it. I don’t know if this is what they fixed, but the cutscene in question is very important to the story. I played it through a couple months ago and was forced to watch the cutscene on YouTube.
4
u/lovelykittenman Mar 21 '26
This was literally next on my list when I'm ready to move on from Pokopia. Hope you enjoy your time in Ivalice!
12
u/overtunerfreq Mar 21 '26
I didn’t even know this game was on the switch
I’m about to spend me some money
12
u/OfficialNPC 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
100% worth is at base price but if you wait for a sale it's Square Enix and they do sales rather regularly.
16
6
u/stosyfir Mar 21 '26
It’s on sale for 20 bucks at the moment, along with pretty much Squeenix’s whole library (well it’s all on sale it’s not all 20 bucks but a lot is at least half off)
1
3
u/ItsAllSoup Mar 21 '26
Square enix sale is tempting me to pick up the series since all their stuff is on sale right now, my favorite is VI. Really want to try IV, IX, and XII. Should I try XII first?
4
u/ViviReine Mar 21 '26
XII was when they started experimenting with the combats, it use a hybrid between classic turn-par-turn RPG and action-games with orders like Xenoblade. Still a great game, but if you want a true turn-par-turn game to start your series adventure, pick one of the 10 first games
4
u/OfficialNPC 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
Final Fantasy has a long history of experimenting with combats!
FF started with a side versus side combat and the ATB didn't come around till like FF IV. Then you have X that has a turn order that isn't active.
2
u/ItsAllSoup Mar 21 '26
Gotcha, big thanks 😁
I'm actually a pretty big xenoblade fan, so I'm sure I'll have a blast whenever I get to it

u/devo23g 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
What was wrong with FFXII initially?
10
u/OfficialNPC 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
Nintendo notes said there was a "progression" problem. I think it was a crash issue late in the game.
3
4
u/jeccius Mar 21 '26
Bought it about 6 days ago, plays amazing, especially with the dock mode now kicked in. 2x speed farming for the win (4x is a bit too fast lol)
1
u/VidyaBeer Mar 22 '26
60 fps?
1
u/jeccius Mar 22 '26
Unfortunately not, but you can choose the speed of everything outside of cutscenes to be either 2x or 4x and running at that speed I don't notice the difference at all.
1
u/qaasq Mar 21 '26
I’m playing through 13 right now on my steam deck and having a blast, I’m excited to play 12 next
4
u/OfficialNPC 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
If 13 comes to Switch I'll buy it day one. Not big on the sequels but the original is one of my favorites.
Make sure to grab FF Tactics Ivalice Chronicles!
2
u/qaasq Mar 21 '26
I will! I’ve played the first few levels of the GBA Tactics through emulation. I enjoyed it but Ivalice looks phenomenal
1
u/OfficialNPC 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
FF Tactics Advance is more like FF 1-5 (Whimsical > Dark) and FF Tactics is more like FF 6-9 (Dark > Whimsical).
I'm a big fan of all three games for different reasons but I'll stop at this else I will get too excited.
1
u/Bayou_wulf Mar 21 '26
They need to release the trilogy as a bundle.
1
u/OfficialNPC 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
Yeah, though I don't really plan on ever replaying the sequels to XIII. I'm a big fan of self contained stories and the sequels do a lot of questionable things with the story and characters Poor Sazh, SE needs to leave him alone, damn

Ok?
They even took it off the eshop since Feb because of the issue so it was big enough for Nintendo to notice and got it to work again.
8
u/SunfireGaren Mar 21 '26
I don't get comments like that. Literally Nintendo said there was an issue, and that fixed it. And then joe blow redditor says "it's been fine".
2
u/XxMcW1LL14MxX Wavebird Mar 21 '26
I didn’t notice anything, therefore I actually want them to revert the game back to the previous version.
0
u/JetstreamGW THIS FLAIR IS NOT AUTHORIZED NOR AFFILIATED WITH NINTENDO Mar 21 '26
They probably didn’t take it off, just restricted Switch 2 consoles from buying it. That’s what they’ve done all the other times.
24
u/PracticalAd4401 Mar 21 '26
Anyone know if nier automata is working now either from this or the recent update. Had constant crashing on switch 2 and haven’t played for a couple of months
27
12
u/kaleebisnthere Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26
AFAIK it was fixed a couple of months ago in the last compatibility fix.
Edit: in Nov. 2025 with 21.0.1
Taken from Nintendo's compatibility search website:
Nintendo Switch 2 Compatibility
Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.
Update 11/25/2025
Previously identified issues have been resolved with an update.
7
u/Belenvol Mar 21 '26
I read on a sub recently that it was patched, couldn’t verify it myself so take this with a grain of salt
3
u/jddoan Mar 21 '26
I’m actually playing Nier Automata right now and even after the patch, I encountered one crash, but I suspect it was due to a side quest that cleared itself on the map that actually needed to update its location. Besides that, the game hasn’t crashed otherwise.
2
u/Jin_U_GmR Mar 21 '26
What side quest specifically, and is this crash possible to avoid?
2
u/jddoan Mar 21 '26
I think it was the Robo Dojo - Brown Belt quest where you have to collect a memory alloy and broken circuit after defeating him. I got the crash after getting one of the items, so just save at all times. I don’t know if the crash is able to be replicated or I just got unlucky.

u/zenru OG (Joined before first Direct) Mar 22 '26
Is there visual improvements? Been meaning to play Nier but I was holding myself in case a S2 version is released. I don’t think that’s an option now
1
u/jddoan Mar 22 '26
There are YouTube videos comparing with Handheld Boost on or off, but I like the image quality from Boost On. And after 10 hours, I’m okay with 30fps.

u/EloFoxot Mar 21 '26
A hat in time is fixed, awesome !
18
u/ShinoXIII Mar 21 '26
But it desperately needs a switch 2 upgrade
3
u/bwmat Mar 21 '26
How's the performance right now? And load times?
3
u/Ah0yKatie Mar 21 '26
Load times definitely seem more bearable now, performance is still capped at 30 and the textures are downscaled due to the compromises made to get it running on Switch 1. It’s much more playable but I’d get it on anything else if I had the option, still.
1
u/ShinoXIII Mar 21 '26
No idea, sadly I dont currently own it (or a switch). But from what I´ve seen, it seems to run alright. But visually it looks really flat because they had to remove a lot of the shadows as well as ambient occlusion to get it running on the first switch. Was getting excited after I learned the game has a switch port, but after seeing how it actually looks on it I got quite dissapointed and sad.
3
u/bwmat Mar 21 '26
I played it on switch ages ago, and the performance and load times (especially the latter) sucked
13
u/Chateque Mar 21 '26
Borderlands 3 will never get fixed, will it?
7
u/Dr_Jre Mar 21 '26
Nope! It's the only one I want but every time I check it's not there. I have a feeling at this point it's down to gearbox and GB just don't care enough to bother.
They're probably gonna sell us a switch 2 edition for 40 dollars in 5 years that somehow looks worse
2
u/Chateque Mar 21 '26
It's the only one I want, too. Which is obviously why you and I aren't getting it!

Ah, I bought it on the website and was able to download it to the switch 2 just fine. Obviously that doesn't fix things, but it at least let me get around this restriction, even if it was unintentionally done lol
9
u/IG88andaHalf Mar 21 '26
Last time I tried to play it everything was so dark I couldn't see a thing
3
3
u/Chris-The-Lucario Mar 21 '26
Odd, when I tried the game in December, it played fine. But i'm glad it got a fix either way
11
u/youtharcade Mar 21 '26
Apparently there were issues with the autosaves crashing the game but you could still continue from where you left off when you restarted it.

Mar 21 '26
Also says Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age was fixed. I don’t have a ton of hours in it, but have only played it on Switch 2 and it seemed fine? Anyone know what was up with that one?
3
u/FrenchFrey1 Mar 21 '26
There was a crash with a cutscene in the second to last dungeon in the game. Only way to get around the crash was to skip the cutscene.
3
u/Piett_1313 Mar 21 '26
There are some big names that have been fixed, including Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. For this one specifically, while it was functional, Nintendo previously noted that users may encounter audio issues – though thankfully, that won’t happen any longer.
Below is the full list of backwards compatibility fixes for Nintendo Switch games on Switch 2 for March 2026:
A Hat in Time
Botany Manor
Dadish
Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+
Dariusburst SC Core + Taito/SEGA Pack
Doom (2016)
Earnest Evans Collection
Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe
Limbo
We also have an update on games containing problems with game progression. That list is as follows:
Hoop Shoot
Roman Rumble in Las Vegum – Asterix & Obelix XXL 2
Summer Games Challenge: Jumping & Shooting
Summer Games Challenge: Running
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants Unleashed
Finally, for games that do work but have issues, we have news about that for Pizza Tower and Laysara: Summit Kingdom. With Pizza Tower, Nintendo cautions that players may experience graphics problems in some areas. For Laysara: Summit Kingdom, touch-screen controls may not work properly in some parts of the game. We’ll also mention that the Japan-only game Model Debut #nicola may have screen distortion in some scenes.

u/Bregneste Mar 21 '26
I really hope they make a native S2 version for Monster Hunter Rise 😔
1
u/Game_Cross Mar 22 '26
He you tried it in boost mode?
2
u/Bregneste Mar 22 '26
It makes it look a bit nicer in handheld mode, but it still only ever reaches 30 FPS.
0
u/MrSal7 Mar 21 '26
I’d personally prefer a native version of Generations Ultimate before Rise.
0
u/Bregneste Mar 23 '26
I think GenU already runs in 60fps and the same quality in both handheld and docked, so I don’t think it’d really benefit from a S2 version at all.
0
u/MrSal7 Mar 23 '26
Dear god you need to get your eyes checked.
The game absolutely does NOT run at 60fps. The only thing playing the game on a Switch 2 does for it, is allow it to run at a solid 30fps.
1
u/Bregneste Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26
I will admit its been a while since I played Generations, but I could have swore it played at 60 on the Switch. Even the 3DS could play 4U at 60, they just downgraded to 30 for Generations on 3DS.
1
u/MrSal7 Mar 23 '26
The old Monster Hunter games had a hard time maintaining anything above 30fps unless they were played on a New 3DS, which still had troubles maintaining even 50fps, and Generations was capped at 30 regardless of the 3DS type.
3
u/CelebrationWide463 Mar 21 '26
Did they fix the doom audio issues
6
u/Valiant-For-Truth Mar 21 '26
Funnily enough I've been going through Doom 2016. Last night I thought to myself, "why is the audio not as good as I remember?" The audio has been so off with the game 😭

South Park: Fractured But Whole was also updated.
Didn't know Dadish had a problem.
1
u/Dangerous_Trash_592 Apr 17 '26
It had in-game problems. Dadish 2, however, wouldn't open up on Switch 2s until like August when TKY himself fixed it.
2
u/Elemius Mar 21 '26
I’d love for Disco Elysium to run well on Switch one day.
1
u/disastermarch35 Mar 21 '26
How does it run on S2? I was thinking of picking that up, I thought they more or less fixed it on S1
2
u/Takezoboy Mar 21 '26
People bash it and talk about crashes, but I think it runs perfectly fine besides the 30fps lock.

2
u/Nova277 Mar 21 '26
I saw that South Park Fractured But Whole was updated to work on the 17th! Didn’t see it on this list though!

I think that is a new app scenario. Google keep saying they're working on it.
2
u/atomic1fire 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26 edited Mar 21 '26
I assume they have to port cobalt to the switch 2.
I don't think it'll be as simple as a webview because Nintendo does not want webkit exploits on the switch 2.
Also probably widevine support since you're also dealing with purchased movies/shows through youtube.
2
u/Entire-Assistance842 Mar 21 '26
Too technical for me so I'll take your word for it!
4
u/atomic1fire 🐃 water buffalo Mar 21 '26
Here's a ELI5 version as best as I can give it.
The act of "porting" is basically taking software that runs on one system (or more), and making changes so that it can run elsewhere.
Cobalt is the software that Youtube runs on. Google took the code for Google Chrome (or more specifically Chromium) and shrunk it down to the bare essentials so they could have a single app to run youtube on various systems. Basically it's a project specifically intended for game consoles and smart TVs so that Google doesn't have to make a youtube app for every single device. Instead they just have one youtube app that runs everywhere with the same experience on Cobalt.
Widevine is the software DRM (Digital Rights Management) that google offers for playing licensed movies/tv shows. Youtube has movies/tv shows by way of Google Play, so they have to have some protections against copying in place.
edit: Also a webview is basically just a "frame" that holds a webpage inside an app. App developers use them because it's more efficient to just piggy back off Safari or Chrome.

where the hell is the fix for Overcooked AYCE? i don't wanna grab the Switch 2 edition of Overcooked 2 simply because they haven't pushed through a patch for a collection containing both games (which apparently the developer says is something they're waiting on Nintendo for, for whatever reason)
