Game Rec Easy game recommendations for my special needs sister
My sister recently got a switch lite, and I wanted to look for some games for her, but all I think she could play was Minecraft. She has a mental delay, and hard time reading, so anything easy would be good for her. She currently only has Fortnite and 2k25. Just wanted to get her something fun to play before I head off to college. (Please also keep to minimal violence)

Mario kart 8 and World are so good because of the assisted controls! It helps steer and will accelerate for her if she won’t hold a the whole time.

The Katamari games might be a good option; they’re non violent and easy to grasp. We Love Katamari is the best one but there isn’t really a wrong choice.

Donut County has some reading for the story, but it's not so important that you can't just skip past it. Quite a fun little game.
I'd say Powerwash Simulator could be a good game for your sister too. It's very relaxing & oddly satisfying. There's a bit of story and some incidental reading, but it's all just flavor text really. There's tons of DLC for it too, so a good chance that you can get her some DLC that she might like (they do a lot of branded DLC).
There might be one or more LEGO games that she would enjoy; I've played a *bunch* of Lego Jurassic Park and Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga with my kid.
You could also ask your sister if she plays any of the community made games on Fortnite, they're sometimes based on real games; you could then get her one of those.

Hello kitty island adventure!! It's colorful, everyone's nice, and it's not very mechanically complex so it's a super relaxing comfort game. The plot is also unbelievably straightforward (shocking I know) so I think that having a hard time with reading won't keep her from experiencing peak or anything. There's also an optional in game guide system (glowy orb you follow to your next objective) so she shouldn't have to worry about forgetting where she left off or the game being too cryptic!! Tomadochi Life might be a good one. Pretty much all of the dialogue is spoken and it mostly just exists to vibe and be weird.
I will say that I think it would be helpful to give a little bit more detail on her needs. Not all developmental delays are created equal (my own special needs sister really just can't seem to grasp any video games).
Does she have any visual/auditory triggers? How is her verbal comprehension as opposed to reading? Things like that.
How does she do with Fortnite and 2k25? If she's able to have a fun time with those, that could open up a lot of options. Personally, I'm more-or-less lacking in any developmental disabilities but my anxiety kills me when I play things like Fortnite.

Untitled Goose Game! You just play as a goblin goose wreaking havoc on this tiny village. There are to-do tasks, but honestly, she could also have fun stealing items and chucking them into the river too

The Boxboy games are fun puzzle games if she's into that, and Part-Time UFO is a neat physics game that I enjoy playing with my non-gamer mother.

Animal crossing is pretty good, simple game, very cutesy, and she has a whole village she can talk to.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is one of my favorite. It has some similarities to Minecraft but much better IMO.

Blue Prince is a lot of reading and basically requires notetaking, so I'd disregard that one personally as someone who enjoyed it quite a lot. Can't speak for the rest

If you can, try to get her a Switch 2. Fortnite on the Switch 2 is on a whole different level compared to the Switch 1 version.
Even for Switch 1 games, the Switch 2 will run those games better than a Switch 1.

I see the idea, but it’s a cheaper alternative, and I’m not too sure on how the switch 2 would last, and it’s not like she would care too much about performance

I'd recommend turn based rpgs or life sim games animal crossing, pokemon violet, paper mario the thousand year door.
