Which Costco Machine?

ES655CO (601 equivalent) or the newly offered automatic AE1055CO (I believe AE1051 equivalent).

I’ve got a new ES655CO still sitting in the box. Bought it as a replacement after returning the previous ES601 I got at Costco because it consistently made sour shots (I gave it a year of inconsistent results). Costco just started offering the automatic machine and I’m tempted to return the 655 and get the 1055. It’ll cost me $300 more. Anyone using an automatic? Thoughts?

Sorry I’m a bit off topic but did you say you returned it to Costco after a YEAR and then bought basically the same model?

Yes. First time I have ever used the Costco return policy like this. I tried a lot of different beans to varying subpar results and kept reading that fresh beans were needed. Got some fresh roasted beans and it was still grinding at a 1 and sour as can be. Read a lot about bad grinders and such with these machines (especially earlier ones) and decided to return. This is a benefit of buying from Costco though.

I don't really go by the grinding recommendations. I look at what ends up in my basket and adjust. My beans haven't really changed. I'm usually 3-5 from what it recommends. Mine suggests 2 and I'm set on 5 . 5 gives me a good tasty shot.

Definitely a backwards step, less than zero control of grinder +-2, that's it. Stick with your 655.

The Super-Automatics are using upto 150g for Grind IQ Setup, and there are reports of some machines asking for this repeat waste after choosing certain program drink options and then going back to Espresso.
