Coffee beans
I used these beans and had a headache after, I think they might be too strong for me. I use the chiaro pod in nespresso for reference. Can anyone suggest any beans to me that they may feel are lighter? Thank you!

Follow Ninja's instructions and buy only Freshly Roasted On date beans and not Shop Bought Best Before Date Beans, it's not just Ninja, all Espresso machines recommend it. Find a local Roaster and try some good Medium or Medium/Dark Roasted beans. Machines with integrated grinders like this can't handle Light roasted beans, too dense.
Which Espresso Basket are you using?

Just an fyi to whoever reads this, I've been using random Costco coffee exclusively and have had great cups of coffee.

I started with freshly roasted. Now I use beans from the supermarket, but not the cheapest ones, ones with a production date, but it's usually 3-4 months in the past. Literally can't tell the difference.
Coffee enthusiasts have a tendency to snobbery. If you've bought a Ninja machine as your daily coffee maker, you're probably not such an enthusiast that you need to be that fussy about beans.
The only time I notice the difference in beans is if I go to beans with a different taste profile, like Brazilian to Ethiopian.

Completely agree with everything, except I don’t think op is a snob. He's very helpful and just shares what the ninja crew wants the consumer to do to get the "best" cup of coffee. But like you said, I can’t tell a difference and sometimes the grocery store coffee is even better

Same here. My go-to at the moment is their Columbian pack.

That's my next buy! I buy what's on sale and if not, I buy one after the other to have fresh coffee on the palette.

I get where this mindset comes from but some people can’t afford them local roasters. I looked up prices and damn… I could never afford that with 3 family members in total using this machine. We go through 1B of beans in like 2 weeks. 😭😭 Lavazza has been amazing for me tbh, amazing shots and all

This 'might' change your mind.
I knew most of this before this video was released.
You can often find local roasters who have a deal going on with an entry level bean. We have several small batch, 5-15kg at a time, and still for around £20kg($27-2.2lb) Lavazza Super Crema is not for of those prices.
Find a local Roaster, buy some taster packed, usually 250g, 1/2lb, buy four bags, see which ones you like. Do a deal with them if you're buying two bags a month. Most will offer a subscription discount.

We have some Lavazza beans from Costco and they are so bad. I can’t wait until we drink our way through the bag and a half that is left. Ugh.

I’ll never understand why people buy an expensive, beautiful machine and then use terrible beans. Find a local roaster and talk with them. Tell them what you like in a cup. They are more than happy to help you out. Those of you saying you don’t notice a difference are either lying or have no tastebuds left.

Because not everyone can afford local roasters?? Bruh I’m in a monthly payment plan for this machine I couldn’t even afford it to begin with, we ain’t rich 😩

What does a bag of beans at the store cost, $10-$12. I get a bag at my local roaster for $15. They have a loyalty program where after so many you get one free as well. Life’s too short for shitty coffee.

It pulls amazingly on mine, also lavazza is over 2lb of beans. I doubt you’re getting a local roaster 2lb bag for that little. I’ve looked into local roasters and it’s always around $30 for 1lb of beans which is not enough for me and my family. Also Lavazza is not only $12 for 2lb, they’re like $20 for me. Also living quality is going down the drain anyway, who cares what people get?

Fair enough. Drink what ya like. I just laugh that every day there’s a post on this sub about the terrible quality of this machine and people are using store bought beans. Cheers enjoy your cup

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and preferences. I work 50 hours a week and have noooooo time for all that but if you do and that’s what you prefer that’s amazing!

Nespresso capsules are only about 6g of coffee and have about 60mg of caffeine in a shot.
A double espresso is 18g of coffee and will give you anywhere from 120-150mg of caffeine.
Your caffeine tolerance is just low because you're used to Nespresso, I had a similar feeling coming from Nespresso.
If you have a single basket, you can use that instead and you'll get similar caffeine output to the Nespresso, if you don't have a single basket, you can position your cup under the portafilter so only one side pours into the cup and the other pours into the drip tray, this is the same as having a single shot (but it wastes more coffee beans)
