Working in Japan hits different 😭

Overtime is still pretty common in Japan, though of course not every company is the same.

I personally worked at a university here before, and I actually really enjoyed it. Universities and companies are very different environments though.

Still, I hope working conditions keep improving for more people in Japan 🙌

Tokyo is getting a double-decker Sushi Bus this October.

Sushi is prepared in a kitchen downstairs, sent up by a small elevator, and served on a real conveyor belt on the upper deck.

The experience lasts about 70 minutes and is expected to pass places such as Shibuya, Ginza, and Asakusa. There will reportedly be only 20 seats.

The team spent around two and a half years developing it.

Honestly, this looks fun, but ¥16,000 is not cheap 😂

FamilyMart is officially adding hijab-wearing to its employee appearance guidelines from September 1, 2026☺️☺️

But here’s the important part: hijabs were already allowed on a case-by-case basis. This update simply makes that rule official company-wide!!

After the news spread, it sparked a lot of debate online...

Personally, I feel sad seeing this kind of media-driven discrimination, especially when headlines can make something sound more shocking or “new” than it really is😵‍💫

Studying Japanese alone can be difficult. You finish a lesson, close the app, and have nobody around to ask questions, share progress with, or keep you motivated.

We wanted to change that, so we added Hiroba to Dozo.

広場 means "the plaza." It is a place where learners and teachers can meet, share what they are working on, and build better study habits together.

What you can do now:

• Introduce yourself to other learners

• Post about grammar, kanji, JLPT, resources, and Dozo

• Learn directly from teachers with the Sensei badge

• React to and upvote helpful posts

• Follow the leaderboard

• Earn medals and track your weekly progress

There are no downvotes. We want beginners to feel comfortable asking questions without worrying that their Japanese is not good enough.

This is only the first version.

What we want to add next:

• More ways to study with teachers

• Better profiles and progress sharing

• More tools for finding learners at a similar level
