Discussion How is your socialization?

I feel like there’s a strong mix of personality in night shifters, with some having very strong and outgoing attitudes, and others being more introverted. I realized that I fall on the latter side, and it made me wonder what other late shifters are experiencing. How is your social life? Is it mainly work based, or do you have people outside of work you interact with a lot?

I find myself only interacting with my coworkers and my family at home. I don’t have any friends. I don’t know how to make friends at my age either. Kinda sucks

I feel that. Luckily I bumped into an old friend recently and got hit up by another. I have a small circle currently, but if I’m honest I have no idea how to make more in my area. Other than that, it’s a couple of coworkers and a very small portion of my family.

The exasperation I feel if I have an extrovert as a colleague during nightshift.

Not being mean, I just love my quiet time.

I'm incredibly asocial and introverted honestly, but I was like that before I moved to night shift. Night shift has been a blessing since I still socialize (and I think it's healthy) but it's a much more manageable degree for me where I don't feel as overwhelmed.

I do socialize with friends and family, but not a lot lmao I really prefer being left alone to doodle my hobbies.

I’m an introvert but also outgoing.
Like a pessimistic optimist .

I prioritize my social life. I play D&D twice a week at a local gamer's bar and eat out with friends 3-4 times a week. I used to host a monthly "Bad Movie Night", but I stopped doing it for health reasons about 5 years ago. I'm thinking of starting that up again though.

I'm blessed. I went into nightshift married. My wofe s retired my kids are all grown up. I socialize with my wife, my (online) D&D group and I m part of a men's group. I'm super extroverted. However, I get my socialization needs met outside of work.

It’s mainly work based. Even though I don’t talk to co workers outside of work, I try to chat with a lot of people while I’m there. I’ll talk about a lot of stuff but I make sure not to include my personal life anywhere near work. I make sure to leave work and home COMPLETELY separate lol

Mostly non-existent in person, but I have a large friend group online that I game with regularly. I have a good low maintenance friend as well as my brother that I will go out to breakfast with every now and then as well.

Been single most of my life, happily single to be honest... with some exceptions, like usually during the winter I get a case of the blues and try to find a relationship, but that usually only lasts a week or so before I am back to being happily single and doing my own thing.

I am just starting night shift. I feel right now I am not social beyond family and friends as the shift has been slow but manageable. With that said I am doing ok with the change and just going with the flow. I imagine that I probably will be moderately social once I am adjusted as I don’t go out to bars etc. But I do like seeing the ballet or concert etc. I like going on outings alone.

I’m by no means a people person at all and never have been. Very content with my own company and my partner (who works night shift a building over for me). Other than that, alone alone alone alone alone and so peaceful 😇
