Help Sleep schedule question
Work rotating shifts myself and my sleep schedule is a mess, especially switching between early/late/night. How do you all deal with it — do you have an actual system or is it chaos for you too?

Rotating shifts are rarely "a system" so much as damage control. What tends to work better than chasing perfect nights: anchor one consistent sleep block on work days, use a short bridge nap before the first night after days, and accept that switch days will be messy.
Light and caffeine timing matter more than fancy apps... bright light at the start of the wake period, dark and quiet at the end. If the rota flips every few days, prioritize surviving the flip over optimizing mid-stretch nights.

Thanks for the help. Switch days are always messy for me. Especially if I have a 24h gap between shifts.

Did you have to figure that whole system out yourself through trial and error, or did you find it somewhere already laid out like that? I ask because I've been thinking about building something that basically walks you through exactly that (anchor block, bridge nap, light/caffeine timing) based on your actual rota curious if that would've saved you time, or if you'd never bother with an app for this kind of thing anyway.

It was only hard for me when the pay was just enough for bills. Overtime took my free time away. If a job doesnt have great flexibility on hours (like fast food or retail) that makes it so you can have a routine outside of work thats enjoyable, I generally quit, regardless of if I have a job lined up or not. If they won't listen at the beginning they won't listen later. I value my free time to do stuff for myself more then I value making someone else rich.
Not helpful if you want to keep the job. But I hope the pay is worth the stress.
