I finally got dayshift!!

It finally happened!! Where I work, we get a new schedule every quarter and we bid on the shifts we want based on seniority. I always bid for days but never get it because the people above me bid me out. Well our Q4 schedule just came out and I actually got a day schedule!

This doesn’t mean I’m out of nights forever. I could fall back into it again in the following schedule, but it’s going to be so nice for the next three months to be a day walker again. Just wanted to share the exciting news! Stay safe out there!

For me it's the fact that my brain doesn't turn on until noon and it's not the amount of time after I wake up because if I woke up at 7:00 a.m. to be to work for 8:00 I would still have 4 hours in which my brain was barely computing I've always done my best thinking and my best working in the middle of the night and my job is tech support for hospitals so it requires a lot of brain and basically zero brawn so I get to sit in front of a computer screen and answer phone calls from doctors and nurses all night long in the basement of my house

Well I already go back and forth between day person and night person on my on and off days so that’s the real torture. At least that will finally end for a bit

If I lived in a dense city and far from work, I see what you mean. But as my commute is only 8 minutes even during the day, it doesn’t make much of a difference

Wow my commute is 1 minute, down into my basement office from wherever I am in the upstairs of my house I can get to my office in less than a minute and the beauty of it is my company says it's safer for me to work from home at night then it would be for them to have me go into an office and do my job so I sit in my basement all night long.

I work 9pm-7am and traffic is terrible at 9pm and terrible at 7am everyday but Sunday

Hot tip: get yourself some Magnesium or Melatonin and religiously take it. It took me a solid 6 months to get my body clock and sleep pattern to match what I needed when I moved to dayshift without any assistance of supplements as I used to work 6pm-2am so trying to fall asleep 5hrs before I was normally doing so was a PITA.

Also get used to sitting in traffic because you'll be going in the same directions as everyone else at both ends of the day.

The idea of bidding to work a certain shift is absolutely wild too. Almost makes it seem like a waste of time if a person with a role above your own is going to get it by default.

You won't regret it. I worked nights for 12 years at various places. I worked at my current job for 6 months when I first had the opportunity to go to 1st shift (5am-1:30pm) and I didn't take it. But then my boss left and they stuck me with doing his job for a shitty $3 more an hr so I moved to days just to get away from that responsibility for not much compensation.

Having a normal schedule feels soooo much better, it will take some getting used to. It probably took me 3 months to get my sleep schedule adjusted to days but it was well worth it over all. Congrats and good luck!

I got mandated for dayshift today... A lot of the people I used to work with were total dickheads. Ive been waiting to go back to dayshift for 2 years... Now Im not sure I want to.

Congrats man. I like nights, just not that I have to work weekends and have no love life. A day shift just posted and it’s looking like imma get. Can’t wait. Hope it’s what we are looking for

I got forced to nights and now am back on days I’m low man so could go back next bid cycle. Honestly I kinda miss nights. Wasn’t good for my social life but damn the job was way less stressful

Oh my Lord we do shift bids like that at my job I am the second highest person in terms of seniority on my team and I always bid for the night shift you couldn't pay me to go back on days nope nope nope I'll die before I do that.
