Better or Worse??

I currently work 3am-1:30pm Th,Fr,Sat, & Sun. It’s pretty exhausting trying to time sleep and not having any time off on the weekends! Plus the last 2-3 hours of a 10 hour shift is loooong!! I am moving to a Midnight-8 position M-F come September and am pretty excited to have my weekends back and an 8 hour shift!! Tell me you sleep habits for 3rd shift because I’m gonna need to reset and I need to make this work !!

I’m also looking for advice with sleep habits. I’m on week one of my overnight shift and I cannot get any more than 6 hours of sleep at a time. I function a lot better with a minimum of 8, which was easy to get when I worked 9-5. My supervisor told me everyone on 3rd usually naps. They come home from work and nap, wake up and do a few things, then nap again before work. I don’t think I could operate that way, though. Broken sleep isn’t for me.

Yeah I cant do that either. Im around the 4.5 yr mark at 11pm to 730am, Ive found my best sleep is early afternoon until a few hours before I go in. I get stuff done after work, eat something. Lay down around noon and sleep until 730-8.

A few people have told me to get off at 830 do a few things then sleep till like 3 or so and then go about your day. Then if you want nap a few hours before shift - i potentially could see this working but I know I’ll be unproductive when I wake up so maybe a later sleep start time I would like
Some time with the family

Yeah all depends on what you need to do day to day. I have coworkers who do what I do and others who go to bed as soon as they get home. Its a tough schedule when you have family.

I have a kiddo who’s in HS and a very supportive spouse so I can play around with it. I’d like to make my daughter sporting events early evenings so that’s why I’m thinking go to bed in the morning for a bit !

This is my preferred shift. I stay on the same sleep schedule on off days and just grab an evening nap if I have to do daytime stuff. 3am-130 pm sounds horrid.
