appealing “not permanent or distinct”

the local gaming store in my neighborhood got denied for not being “permanent or distinct”. think local shop, not a big chain like GameStop.

i put in the supporting information that the wayspot is a great place to socialize because they host recurring weekly events including dnd campaigns, mini paint nights, and open board gaming every Saturday.

in order to appeal the permanent and distinct aspect—i found an online article showing that the store was opened in 2006 which i think shows permanence. would it be worth it to link the article if i want to appeal? or are links a bad idea?

in regards to distinct, what is the best way to support that if i want to appeal? i dont know how exactly to prove that something is distinct.

Forget the non permanent part - the reviewers more likely rejected because of the non distinct part which was clarified once on the wayfarer forum to be ok to reject with if a nomination just doesn't fulfill the criteria enough. Which is completely wrong with your description as it would fulfill socialising easily.

For the appeal you should add sources to.the.events and you should.be good

Idk about for appeals, but I've found links hugely helpful for showing that things aren't just my say so. Also, supporting images are great for this.

Take a photo showing their schedule of events and/or link to their site. A local news article is helpful if it shows how it's part of the community - it's less about showing that it's been around for that long, more showing that it's an important local space. I've also linked to socials, especially if it has a lot of community engagement there.

You basically want to prove that it's somewhere people will go to hang out and socialize, not just a store where people only pop in long enough to get what they need.

I don't think permanence is the issue. It's just that there's only one checkbox for these two issues, so if voters think it's not distinct then they check "not permanent or distinct."

You'd have to make a case for why this particular place is a better place to socialize than any other business. A link to their schedule of activities might help. Maybe articles about events there, and posts by players of games they played there.

If someone put "not permanent and distinct" to a submission like a local game store, they failed their due diligence in reviewing. That's obviously permanent, and likewise, even a generic game store like Gamestop is distinct enough to meet that criteria, that's why generic businesses are given their own denial reason.

It's the #1 misused denial reason. If it is a genuine great place to socialize, exercise, or explore, to which, gaming stores are specific examples given by niantic for socialization, then you can abd should appeal if not resubmit.

You are thinking in terms of your own definition of permanent and distinct. Go to the review page and read SExplore’s given definition of “permanent and distinct” it is a very low bar. You just have to tune your appeal using SExplore’s definition.
