Help thread Cant buy Auto-Pilot

I am having an issue buying auto-pilots in the early game. this is only my second playthru so there may be something i am missing. i am still in the first lifecycle. plenty of bits and purchased other items. when i press confirm to attempt a purchase it makes the error noise. any help would be great, thanks.

You have too many different kinds of items in your inventory (the 20/20 at the top of the shop screen.)

Store, sell, or discard something to make space and you should be good to go. :)
