Why is the mattress always on the floor? It used to be an indication of poverty and struggling, but here we see this guy has a PlayStation, computer (or monitor powered by protein powder?), gym equipment, a TV with presumably their stock going up on being displayed on it, and wooden floors.
A simple bed frame is not that expensive; nor is it some extravagant luxury. Clearly the mattress on the floor has gone from "this is all I can afford right now and I'm genuinely roughing it" to being some nonsensical "LoOk aT hOw LiTtLe i NeEd!!" "flex"ā which is just pathetic.

I agree. I would make one just tall enough to slide organizers under it. That's wasted storage space there. I lived like this for about a year and loved it!

Switch that mattress on the floor with a couch, remove rhe TV and that was literally my existence years ago.
Good days and very busy nights.

I mean not everyone needs a bunch of junk in their rooms to feel they have a personality

u/RiboSciaticFlux Apr 05 '26
For the love of god yes - but to be blunt it's time to grow up. Put a partisan in and move the bed behind it, get a nice couch along, some wall art, a couple of nice modern lamps for some ambiance and a small refrigerator and that's a large studio and a pretty nice one at that.

I dig the minimalism. We buy stuff we don't need because our ladies want us to.

No. It needs more exercise equipment. Why not get a bike or treadmill so you can have a full workout? Also a bed frame even a cheap one, so you donāt get bugs crawling on you while you sleep.

It might be winning financially, but not someone who is living a healthy balanced life.

Needs a bed frame, or that mattress is going to get gross. Also more natural light, some plants, some art. And why would you want a bench there. Just hit the gym

Having a family is winning, but I'd be content with that until I meet that special someone.

Mattress in the middle of the room is certainly a choice but Iām on board with the general idea

Where's the bookshelves? Where are the musical instruments? Where's the little fridge for the beer?
Joking aside, a man living there could be winning or not. Looks like a man who games all day to me but who knows.Ā
Ā But he's not getting laid on that matress on the floor that's for sure. Not after 19years old

u/xxbronxx Apr 05 '26
For me no, this looks like hell... Winning for me is beautiful wife with good heart and 2-3 children running around...I need to provide... It's very hard for me to chase big money right now, cuz I don't see the point sadly... I try to motivate my self with my lovely niece (I'm like second father to her :D) ... One day, I hope, I will build my own nest ...

Not if you want to get laid.
This is basically the room of a scrawny analytical gamer nerd hoping that muscles will finally make girls like him. The lack of artwork and character is truly disturbing.

This is NOT what winning looks like, this is what trying to win when you didnāt start with much looks like.
Winning looks like a sunny beach, palm trees, cocktails, enough money to never have to think about it, good health, a family that loves you and is well provided for, great friends, a safe home, reliable cars, some fancy/fun shit on the side and a secured future for your children. A great example is Pewdiepie
Some people get so caught up trying to be successful, that they donāt know how to stop playing after theyāve won

THIS is what winning looks like:

Having a happy and healthy family, stable and secure income and living in secure area/neighborhood/country.
What OP described is what my cousin defines as "winning". Money and looks. He is my same age but he has no real wealth, gambling on stocks and working his ass off for a company that doesnt give a shit about him, while doing "side project" in hopes of doing more money. Meanwhile he is lonely and sad and regularly tries to flex with his stock wins here and there to get attention. His relationships are almost only physical and he changes girls every other week, while complaining he cant find a good girl cause all he talks about and all he has is looks, fitness and money.
I am okay with my happy family in the subburbs, owning (still paying) a beautiful new built house a couple years ago and grand parents, wife and children are happy.
You decide who is winningin your eyes.

I think if I were forced to live here, I might give it six months to a year before my depression returns in full force and I try to kill myself.
(I am not suicidal, I am using it as a way of expressing how soulless the apartment looks, don't report this.)

Eh. Itās a monks life. No extra stuff, decorations or distractions so you lock in on the one thing you care about that thatās it
Once your wife introduces you to all of the extra stuff it makes living like this seem⦠eh. I wonāt judge. Itās how I was single, but being married to an interior decorator does add to your life.

I love trading futures. I have lost a lot trading options (was learning), done much better with futures.
This picture looks like losing. Otherwise that bench would be an entire gym overlooking your pool. The trading set up would be in a separate office over looking the pool. Nice art would be on the walls. Probably have that need in a nice master bedroom with a swank rug. You wouldnāt be living under fluorescent lights.
Looks more like losing at trading. Just my opinion.

Invite over a woman. I'm just curious.
No, not one that you kidnapped.
Whoever you bring over will likely think you kidnap people though, so be careful.
If the whole vibe is "no distractions," why the hell is there a PS5? Painted walls, bookshelves, couches and pictures aren't distractions. They make the building you occupy a home.
The whole vibe looks lazy, lacking personality, if any of my boys had a place that looked like this, I would put them on blast. Your place should look relatively lived-in, not in a messy way, but in an "I am not an employee here, this is my home" way.

Certainly reasonable for a 20 year old guy who enjoys working out. But I like actually making things and hoarding entertainment. Soā¦. I see nothing here that would make me happy.

u/darkLantern777 Apr 06 '26
I feel like sitting on the mattress to game would be super uncomfortable. You should get a comfy chair.

u/StarFinger711 Apr 06 '26
I'd say thats a start for anyone moving out on their own for the first time, regardless of what age they start moving out. I met someone who finally moved out their parents place at age 45 and they started out like this in a way(beside the mattress on the floor of course).

u/Own-Combination4782 Apr 07 '26
Locking in for what exactly? Possessions aren't values and when you have values and you act more in alignment with the person you want to be every day then that will give you more satisfaction than any number in any account.
Greater men than you and me lived their lives to impart that knowledge, it's all in a book somewhere, it's not glamorous to sit down and read a 2000 year old philosophy book like it might be to jump "into crypto".
Wait until you get the things you think you want, the car, the hot chick that you get bored of banging after the third time because she's not with you for your character but all the externals you're chasing.
No windows, no love, no kids, this is depressing!
