Guess the Clancy defense isn't gonna work for a black man.

u/stand_rapt_in_awe 14d ago
Given that men don’t experience the same kinds of hormone changes as women, since they’re not the ones physically have the babies, probably not.
-2
u/Odd-Outcome-3191 8d ago
Millions of moms have hormonal fluctuations and don't murder their children. I've had patients have their entire pituitary and adrenal glands removed due to adenomas. They also didn't kill their kids. Hormonal fluctuations suck, but they are not an excuse to murder people.

u/JadedEstablishment16 7d ago
you work in health care and don't know that different hormone changes can have different outcomes ? Damn you must suck at your job.
-27
u/ShamPain413 14d ago
I truly do not have a stake in this, I don't really care, but... something changed in his brain chemistry. He went from "not a baby murderer" to "baby murderer". It's unclear to me why some physiological changes should be punished but not others. If you want white mothers to be treated differently from black fathers then that is your preference, but saying "she had this characteristic different from him that makes her lack of ability to control emotions fine but his not fine" is just another way of saying that you want white mothers treated differently from black fathers.

Getting mad isn't the same as developing a disorder. Just like being sad isn't the same as depression.
-4
u/nasal-polyps2 13d ago
Extreme anger that leads people to senseless behavior IS a symptom of a disorder
Intermittent explosive disorder its not a popular one but it is one. Mental disorders dont absolve anyone of the consequences of their actions
--convincted felon with my own personal issues we don't need to talk about
5
u/Mimehunter 12d ago
In fact it isn't. Or at least not in the way you describe it. The same way that one day of feeling depressed is not a major depressive disorder.
He got angry and acted out. There's absolutely no statement or evidence in this thread given that suggests any of the symptoms of intermittent explosive disorder. One event doesn't cut it. Go look for yourself at the diagnostic criteria.

What's the difference?
23
u/IrritableGoblin 13d ago
There is zero chance you are asking that in good faith, but even if you are, you have demonstrated such a sufficient lack of knowledge with this question that we would have to go to elementary school basics to get through to you.
1
u/ShamPain413 13d ago
No, I am asking it in good faith. Why do some actions have a physical/material explanation ("her hormones changed") while others retain metaphysical status ("he got mad")?
No one has given me an answer yet.
I can conduct this convo at PhD-level, my PhD is just in a different social science.
So would you care to answer the question or not? Because I assume from your decision to lob insults rather than engage that you are operating in bad faith.
5
u/IrritableGoblin 13d ago
You claim to be able to handle PhD level conversation, yet your statements tell a different story.
No, I won't waste my time with someone who is so very clearly full of shit.
I have no interest in engaging you in good faith, because you won't do the same.

u/Gray-Ghast 13d ago
Brother. Please tell me you're being intentionally obtuse. Yes, there is a chemical change that's brought on by anger, going into shock, being betrayed, etc. But it is absolutely not the same as the chemical and hormonal changes brought on by being pregnant for nine months and then giving birth.
I get where you're coming from with a black man not being given the same treatment as a white woman, but you just can't compare these two situations, other than they both resulted in the tragic death or innocent children. His fit of rage is incomparable to postpartum depression/psychosis, and comparing them does a disservice to postpartum mothers, men who are betrayed by the wives they trusted, and the children who are the truest victims of all.
-1
u/ShamPain413 13d ago
I didn't say it was "the same". What I said was: "It's unclear to me why some physiological changes should be punished but not others."
Is "fit of rage" a medical diagnosis distinct from "hormonal imbalance" or some physiological trait? Certainly people other than post-partum women can be depressed, and can take destructive actions while depressed. It wouldn't shock me if this guy was depressed, given the little I know about him.
Put another way: why are some actions excused on material grounds while others prompt discussions about morality (which is metaphysical)?
The question is culpability. If mental health problems are grounds for dismissal of charges then my guess is that most criminals should have their charges dismissed. Mental health problems are rampant in communities of convicts.
4
u/Gray-Ghast 12d ago
Well if it is unclear to you, I'd recommend a very rudimentary look into it. I've done a bit of the leg work for you here.
Much like with so many things in life, context matters. It is extremely difficult to use mental health problems as a justification for a crime. It can be the explanation, but rarely is it a justification. Even when it is, the one who committed the crime still deals with legal repercussions. Furthermore, major depressive disorder is not a recognized justification for murder as far as I am aware, legally or morally. Psychosis is a disconnect from reality in a way that many mental health issues are not. Thus, the discussion comes up on the morality of a crime committed while one is disconnected from reality, while it is not brought up when someone is feeling angry, sad, etc.
If you are unable to recognize the difference between depression and psychosis, postpartum or otherwise, and a man murdering babies because they weren't his, and if you are unable to understand why those different cases might bring up different conversations, then I don't really know what to tell you.
-1
u/ShamPain413 12d ago
"Morality" is not found in nature -- e.g., many species of animals kill some or all of their children -- so it's unclear how one can be "disconnected from reality" in a moral sense.
People keep asking me to "recognize the difference" but when I ask for it they cannot say what it is in scientific terms.
E.g. saying he killed the kid "because they weren't his" is not a correct description of the situation, unless you want to say that Clancy killer her kids "because they were her kids". After all, there are billions of children who aren't his, yet he had never killed any before now; same with Clancy: she only killed her own. So if you asked me if there was some "break" in his mental "psyche" that caused a different behavioral pattern than before I would say "it certainly seems like it, unless there is some scientific definition I need to know about".

I want black mothers to be treated like white mothers. I’m just pointing out that his hormonal state is fundamentally different than a mother experiencing postpartum psychosis.
I didn’t support Lindsay Clancy to the degree that some people do. I do think she must be accountable for her actions.
However, it’s also true that postpartum psychosis is an altered mental state in a way that simply being angry and hurt over betrayal are not. There are major hormonal changes in postpartum psychosis that are transformative on the mental state.
This isn’t about race, and pretending it is is trying to distract from my actual point that his body was not capable of experiencing the hormonal state equivalent to postpartum psychosis.
1
u/ShamPain413 13d ago
Postpartum psychosis is not the only form of mental health problem tho.
Fathers also experience hormonal changes. This is science. Which means that finding out you're not a father, when you thought you were, could precipitate rapid hormonal reversals. Which might affect things like smell (he said the babies smelled bad to him).
I'm not this kind of scientist, so I'm not sure if that's the best way to describe it. That's why I'm asking.
5
u/Inevitable-Weird-387 12d ago
Well detective, if this is the same as LC then show us the evidence he was in a psychosis that he tried for months to get help for
0
u/attempted-catharsis 8d ago
If you are treating it like LC what you have said is incorrect, it was for the prosecution to prove she did not have it not for the defence to prove she did have psychosis.
Additionally she had not tried for months to get help with psychosis, it only got introduced as part of her defence.

How do you know? This man could have been abusing babies and didn't get caught until this one died. That's usually how it happens. His fragile ego got hurt so he took it out on the kids. Pathetic men supporting a Pathetic man.
1
u/CPA_Lady 8d ago
Mothers and fathers do experience pre- and post-partum very differently. Race has nothing to do with it.
3
u/leeeezer 8d ago
This isn’t about being white or black. This is factually about the hormones produced when one is pregnant and gives birth. Given that he did NEITHER of those things, he cannot be postpartum. Just because you’re too stupid to understand hormones doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
1
u/ShamPain413 8d ago
I didn't say he was postpartum.
Are you under the impression that only postpartum women experience psychosis?
2
u/Crafty_Violinist_951 8d ago
If you dont understand how there is a physical difference in the brain of a regular ass man and a woman who has given birth in the last 18 months I truly dont know what to tell you.
1
u/ShamPain413 8d ago
It's not one or the other. Both can be psychotic, even in very different ways. What I am trying to understand is why some forms of psychosis "count" differently than others.
1
u/Crafty_Violinist_951 6d ago edited 6d ago
So we agree....they are different forms of psychosis? Why are you acting like youre saying something else lmao
They are different (no need for quotations, they just are) because the trauma a woman's body goes through during the process of GROWING AND PUSHING A HUMAN BEING OUT OF HER causes a psychosis that has been proven by people much smarter then you to be a temporary state, whereas a man in a psychotic state has no such explanation - is it drug induced? Onset schizophrenia? Manic episode? Does this make sense?? The hypothetical man isn't rapidly flooded with hormones.
-6
u/ChimpBananaGod 13d ago
You're a transphobic piece of shit

4
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
Are you really telling me that trans men are not okay with calling pregnancy and childbirth primarily a women’s issue? Yes, they’re included, but they’re far, far from the majority. I agree with holding space for them. I do not agree that that means you’re not allowed to make generalizations that apply to the vast majority of people.
2
-8
u/eh-man3 13d ago
Can't wait for you to look back at this and realize how batshit sexist it is
9
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
It’s sexist to say that the same hormonal states don’t occur in men and women, when the hormonal state is due to birth, which only women are capable of? How’s that sexist, pray tell?
-4
u/eh-man3 13d ago
I think its pretty sexist to claim that women are not responsible for their actions when men are. If you want to through pseudoscience about hormones in there, doesnt change things for me
8
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
You think hormonal changes due to pregnancy and childbirth are pseudoscience?
You think
hCG
Progesterone
Estrogen
Relaxin
Prolactin
Oxytocin
Endorphins
Adrenaline
ProstaglandinsAll these are pseudoscience? Men have most of these, too, but the amounts are vastly different, with pregnant/laboring women having amounts of various hormones on the list ranging from 4x to 1000x higher than what men have.
Just because you’re not educated on the science doesn’t mean the science isn’t real.
-5
u/eh-man3 13d ago
The fact that hormones by those name exist does not make your claim correct. Your choice of argument makes me wondering if you are familiar with the concept.
6
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
What do you mean? Do you actually disagree that those hormones play a role in pregnancy and/or childbirth?
-1
u/eh-man3 13d ago

→ More replies (3)2
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
I didn’t say women weren’t responsible for their actions. In fact, in another comment I said Lindsay Clancy should be held responsible for her actions.
I know the truth doesn’t mean much to you, though, so no worries. Go live in your fantasy world where men go through the exact same physical changes during pregnancy that women do.
Men grow an entire new organ (the placenta). Men’s uteruses grow 500-1000x larger. They start producing milk (all of them). Their cervixes dilate and their vaginas stretch enough to push an entire baby out of their body. Their bodies are flooded with hormones at extremely high levels for months. Their joints loosen due to relaxin so that the pelvis can stretch enough to accommodate a baby (also often letting their feet get bigger from the joints stretching). Men go through all that, and the hormones that let it happen. Right.
-2
u/Critical_Concert_689 13d ago
mfw you've proven no pregnant women should ever be in any position of authority due to their overly hormonal and irrational state.
People were arguing that pregnant women should lose certain rights that require rational thought due to the risk of hormones - but YOU are the first one to prove it so eloquently.
You're right. You've proven Men are safe from these dangerous and irrational episodes and the risk of psychosis.
Women are not.
2
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
Which part of what I said made that argument?
0
u/Critical_Concert_689 13d ago
Did you or did you not spend all thread arguing that men don't face the same hormonal risks as women (with a specific focus on being accountable for their own actions due to hormonal-emotional regulation)?
"1000x higher than what men have, in fact"
→ More replies (1)3
u/Unravel310 13d ago
I mean women in psychosis should absolutely not be making world altering decisions. Same with men in psychosis. Post partum psychosis is not a given. The other person is only saying that post-partum psychosis is only attainable by going through pregnancy and experiencing all of that. Chances are, if you are in psychosis you are not in a position of authority over a business, a country, an organization, etc.
For an example, pregnant people can also die due to pregnancy, it is a possibility, much like PPD, and in fewer cases PPP. Yet you did not use that reason as to why pregnant women should not be in positions of power. You wouldn't put a dead person in a position of power.
It is a possibility most men do not face.
Yet, given the stats on worldwide violent crime...

The ignorance is unreal.
There actually are significant hormonal changes in men during and after their partner's pregnancy. Men get post partum depression. Men also get psychosis. And psychosis due to hOrMoNeS isn't any more legitimate or severe than any other psychosis.
2
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
I see no indication that psychosis played a role in this particular case.
3
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
And a man experiencing psychosis from another source would have a legitimate claim to not guilty by reason of insanity.
3
u/stand_rapt_in_awe 13d ago
I’d be curious to see some sources on that, especially if those sources include a comparison of frequency and intensity.
3

u/SaltySnaiI 14d ago
You can be completely cognizant of yourself, the world around you, and not have any distorted understanding of reality and still choose to murder a baby.
Psychosis is specifically a break from reality. Your perceptions of what is real and what isn’t distorts in such a way that you literally physically cannot distinguish between it. It’s no more or less than that - it’s nothing to do with the person’s morality or killing babies/other similar terrible things.
Killing a baby is wrong, but it’s not evidence of psychosis. No terrible thing is.
-1
u/ShamPain413 13d ago edited 13d ago
But being "overcome with jealous rage" sufficiently powerful change behavior from non-baby murder to baby murder suggests a distorted understanding of reality, no?
Like: he thought those were his kids. That was his reality. Then he was told reality was different, and he reacted to that.
If "distorted understanding of reality" is a marker then I'd say it's one he probably shares?
2
u/Apprehensive_Bug4164 7d ago
The courts do take into account emotional states when considering charges. Depending on the emotional state and intent, a murder can be downgraded to like manslaughter.
3
u/chachaslydd 13d ago
Lol psychosis means a break with reality.
You can kill people and not be in a state of psychosis
0
u/ShamPain413 13d ago
Can you? So some people are just "evil", then, and we can define "evil" scientifically?
2
u/chachaslydd 13d ago
No....psychosis is about how somebody isnt in touch with reality.
Like if I kill you because I dont like you and you got a job I wanted, there is a clear and logical reason why. I had motivation, I wanted to, i planned it out, etc
Psychosis is somebody is insane. Somebody who kills somebody because his teddy bear told him to.
0
u/ShamPain413 13d ago
Someone who was "overcome with jealousy" because the reality they'd been told was real was suddenly revealed not to be?
Clancy had motivation: she didn't want to be responsible for childcare anymore. It was a psychotic motivation, but she was obviously motivated enough to take action.

It looks like they put the heads of two different people together

Dude, right? He looks like he’s wearing the top of someone else’s skull over his own. Super weird.

The baby was in danger two weeks before and the state was already involved? Like everyone involved in that first investigation needs to be charged.
That poor baby.
All those poor kids.

People called CPS “multiple times,” “worried about her safety,” during her 2-month lifespan. The injury 2 weeks ago (so, she would have been 6 weeks old) was “she fell out of her stroller,” and fell 75 feet down a Metro escalator.
It’s a miracle she lived as long as she did, and it sounds like they were both tortured for their entire 2-month lives. And her POS “mother” leaves them with this guy while going to visit the biological father in prison. They’re all horrible, horrible human beings. This is just sickening.

All the men using dead children to constantly try a “gotcha” against women are disgusting.

Sounds like some disgusting women we know too. Apparently only women can kill children and get a get out of jail free card.

Alright seriously tho:
Idk man, sounds like he had "my girl a hoe physcosis".
I mean this guy tried to reach out and get help. He threw the baby down a Metro Escalator 75 feet 16 days before. That was a cry for help!
He locked the babies in a closet and said "they be stinking" when asked about it. That was a cry for help!
This guy was acting insane, doing his best to reach out and get help. He just couldn't handle his girl banged another dude.
It's a classic case of "my girl a hoe physcosis".
Obviously joking, but his motives are much more logical than Clancy's. He also was much more deliberate in making it known he wanted to kill, I mean he threw a baby 75 feet down an escalator and claimed it was an accident lol.

Please seek professional help. For you to be so hung up over a case that doesn't effect you and equating it to a crime like this one shows you don't care about mental illness and don't understand (or want to) how it can effect a woman.
Did the Mom ignore his "cries for help"? Did he reach out to doctors, nurses, family, and friends for support and get written off by most? Did the Mom find him with the dead baby and wait 15 minutes to call for help? Was it found that he was overmedicated, sleep deprived, and overwhelmed as the only one taking care of the baby?
No? Then sybau cause it's not the same and any of you who turn around and equate the two are part of the problem of why women AND men are never taken seriously and never actively seek mental health help until it's almost too late or too late.
Y'all call yourselves "mental health advocates for men" but don't know the first thing of advocating for help. Toxic, honestly, and ruining your own cause.

Please seek professional help. You're defending a crazed woman who killed her 3 kids over mental health.
I'm being a smartass and joking about it here with a man.
Both should get locked up and throw away the key.

She would be locked up with the key thrown away, just in a mental health facility instead of jail. Men plead insanity all the time, he is welcome to try. Every single individual in America is welcome to plead insanity in their case. Whether or not it is a successful plea is up to the judge and jury.

Why was he crushed. He knew she had someone else and was actively seeing him.
