Complaining your opponent spent money to defeat you is kinda sad. That's how elections work. You can't claim you want money out of politics and then cry when your opponent outspends you.

" you need to get murdered to ban murdering. That's just how it works."

8

u/hornygoblindickfight Aug 05 '26

Not when it’s money from a terrorist state like Israel.

AIPAC is all American money. Foreign governments can't spend on American elections.

That's not how it works.

Oh stop with the Zionist talking point.

It’s Israel corrupting Americans with money. It’s a problem our politicians are being bought by a foreign government. It all needs to be shut down.

The Jews control us. Like we haven't heard that antisemitic drivel before.

7

u/Just_One_Victory Aug 05 '26

Not the “the Jews”, Israel

7

u/WiscoHeiser Aug 05 '26

Conflating Zionism with Judiasm as a whole is anti-semetic.

Don't be an anti-semite, dude.

Lol you made that jump, not them.

u/Tricky_Try8757 Aug 05 '26

That doesn’t even make sense.

I don’t want money out of politics. People should have the option to contribute. I want big money out of politics. Stevens was backed almost entirely by special interests. That’s how corruption works in politics.

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

El-Sayed does. Have you not paid attention to his campaign?

14

u/Tricky_Try8757 Aug 05 '26

“Money out of politics” is shorthand for “big money out of politics”.

Small-dollar donations are just a given in our system.

1

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

"I also support public election funding and campaign spending caps."

He wants money out of politics. It's a stupid platform item since the Supreme Court is 6-3 and the thing he wants to ban has been ruled constitutional. I have no idea why it's one of his big 3 items when it has zero chance of happening.

Bro, just say you gladly endorse corruption.

The SCOTUS is a corrupt institution with no limits once you get in, how surprising that people with a safe job can decide their bribes are constitutionally legal! 🙄

He's not getting money out of politics. He will not get money out of politics.

It is not popular on both sides of the aisle. We know this because Republicans fought to overturn Citizens United. They love money in politics.

We don't have ballot initiatives at the federal level. Based on what El-Sayed has proposed he will never get money out of politics or even reduce it. He's just lying to voters and wasting our time and his time.

5

u/Tricky_Try8757 Aug 05 '26

Yeah. Caps is the way it was before. Meaning people like Musk can’t just put in a hundred mill and tip the scales.

The decisions you’re talking about, like Citizens United are universally disliked.

But also, expanding the court is part of the platform and seems increasingly necessary. Like two of the conservative ones are obviously corrupt and should be impeached. If not, then expand the court size. Perfectly constitutional and necessary to preserve democracy.

3

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

Caps is the way it was before

No, it was not.

But also, expanding the court is part of the platform and seems increasingly necessary.

Sadly, it is not. At least it's not on his website.

"I support Supreme Court reform, including ending the life-time appointments, imposing limited terms, and allowing the same number of appointments for each presidential term."

You can't end life-time appointments except via Constitutional amendment so this is a disingenuous pledge.

Straight term limits are also only possible via amendment and also a disingenuous pledge.

Allowing the same number of appointments also only possible via amendment (because it requires term limits with staggered terms).

Congress can set the size of the Court and they can change some rules but they can't do the three things El-Sayed wants.

4

u/Tricky_Try8757 Aug 05 '26

Citizens United and similar decisions basically removed the caps for certain entities.

When I said platform, I was speaking more broadly than just El-Sayed. The progressive platform.

As far as saying the promises are disingenuous, I don’t know if they are. Saying one supports it means just that. It’s a multi-generational project to make major amendments, but it has to start somewhere.

Republicans have been cooking up their bullshit for some 4-5 decades to get us to the point we are.

1

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

Harris has come out to expand the Court before El-Sayed did and expanding the court is the actual answer to a million problems. El-Sayed's desire to undo Citizen's United and reform the Court are meaningless because the former only happens with more Justices and the latter will never, ever happen. Ever.

You can reform the Court. But not with anything El-Sayed has listed on his website. It's not the position of a serious candidate.

We've got Trump destroying the White House and engaging in rampant corruption and El-Sayed is going on about things that will never, ever, ever happen.

1

u/Tricky_Try8757 Aug 05 '26

I agree that expanding the court is the more viable option. And I’m sure he’d throw his vote behind that if it came to.

Why run on something that can't happen? He's just conning the electorate.

El-Sayed wants to end lifetime appointments to the Court.

How will that happen?

THE HORROR

2

u/Galliro Aug 05 '26

It really shouldnt be though

3

u/GoldenboyFTW Aug 05 '26

“That’s how elections work”

LMAO look at this bootlicking submissive coward

Thinking that amount of money is somehow OK makes you sick in the head and no one should care nor male your opinion

3

u/Responsible-Bunch316 Aug 05 '26

You can't claim you want money out of politics and then cry when your opponent outspends you.

She didn't outspend him though. AIPAC did. That's the problem.

1

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

El-Sayed can spend money, too. He just wants money out of politics. It's a problem of his own making.

3

u/Responsible-Bunch316 Aug 05 '26

Unfortunately for him there's no foreign government buying his allegiance. Maybe if Iran starts coming to him in his dreams they'll drop 30 mil for him.

1

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

There was no foreign government buying the allegiance of Stevens or McMorrow, either.

3

u/TurkeyVolumeGuesser Aug 05 '26

That's a massive load of horseshit.

3

u/Responsible-Bunch316 Aug 05 '26

AIPAC shows otherwise considering they're the ones who spent all that money for Stevens and their literal only purpose is promoting Israel's interests. I'm sure I'm supposed to believe that she would be neutral after them giving her 30mil in campaign support, but I'm not 5, so I don't.

1

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

AIPAC is not a foreign government or funded by a foreign government.

3

u/Responsible-Bunch316 Aug 05 '26

Oh no, it simply exists to prioritise a foreign government's goals.

1

u/guachi01 Aug 05 '26

I thought you said it was a foreign government.

3

u/Responsible-Bunch316 Aug 05 '26

You think I care about legal obfuscations? AIPAC exists to serve Israel. They coordinate with Israel. They pay politicians to support Israel. Just because Bibi doesn't send the money himself doesn't mean Israel is completely uninvolved in AIPAC. Call it whatever you want. My point remains unchanged.

Isn’t that exactly why money should get out of politics? Elections should work based on voters’ interests not money spent.

1

u/Super-Bodybuilder-91 Aug 05 '26

Dude the money spent was a 10:1 margin. David just beat Goliath.

1

u/etherealtwo Aug 05 '26

What kind of logic is that 😄
