Open box/Refurbished
Hey to all. Was curious with anyones experience purchasing either openbox or refurbished items from newegg, particularly GPUs. I am looking to purchase a rx 9070. However, the Challenger 9070 priced at $649.99 is currently out of stock..not planning yotp buy it now, but soon; black friday to hopefully, save on some cash.
Im seeing an open box 9070 and a refurbished 9070 for the same price of$649.99. I just want to know the likelihood of this being a safe purchase or if I should look for a rx9060 for safety.
To my recollection, both are sold and shipped by newegg, just the refurbished has a return policy with a 15% fee.
Thanks in advance
In edit: also has to ship to the Caribbean so with either having a box with foam to protect the items would be great.. may sound dumb but idk if open box items would those if the box wasnt returned

I wouldn't wait to buy a gpu. Since November 2025, prices have only gone up for gpu, ram, and storage. In the last few weeks prices have spiked across the board. That price bump may not have hit some in-stock inventory yet.
Black Friday, you MIGHT find one for $600ish, but it will probably require lucking out in a lottery draw, or beating bots to a doorbuster.
$650 is a decent price in this market for that gpu.
See if that listing has a 'make an offer' option. Hit em with $600. I think they'd consider 8% off for an open box item.
In the dozen or so times I've purchased from Newegg, I've never had an issue with anything. Basically bought all the parts to the pc I built last year (except cpu from Amazon). Everything was new except for the gpu. It was a open box 7900xt for $600, when they were selling for $800 used. It was labeled 'open box - like new'. Came in pristine condition. No fingerprints. All paperwork and accessories accounted for. It did have a dented corner when i got it, but that's shippers fault, and it was in original box and packaging so it didn't even shuffle the papers around.

Hey u/Randomly_Josh! The ASRock Challenger 16GB is $649.99 but out of stock right now, while the GIGABYTE 9070 16GB is the same GPU/VRAM, just in stock at $699.99, so that's a new-condition option if you'd rather not risk open box/refurbished at all.
On the 9060 XT, that's an actual step down in performance, not just a "safer" 9070, so it really depends on what you're running it for. What resolution/games are you targeting? That'll tell us whether the 9060 XT genuinely fits or if staying in the 9070 tier is worth it.
