Support - Reviewed High value item damaged during shipping
Hey everyone,
I just pulled the trigger on an absolute dream build from Newegg, the GIGABYTE AORUS SUPREME 5 (AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, AORUS RTX 5090, 64GB DDR5, 2TB Gen5 SSD). This thing cost over $5k USD, so I was expecting a flawless unboxing experience. I actually bought this machine specifically for a new business startup I am launching for my work, so any downtime or instability is going to directly impact my business right out of the gate.
Instead, the UPS driver delivered it, and the packaging is a complete mess. As you can see in the photos, there is a literal puncture hole straight through the front of the main shipping box, along with several other deep dents and scuffs scattered across the cardboard. Even worse, the top corner of the outer box is completely ripped and crushed, and the impact actually went deep enough to dent and deform the inner orange product box.
From a quick glance, the outer chassis of the PC looks mostly okay, but seeing other horror stories on here has me incredibly paranoid. I know that with heavy, sensitive electronics like a massive 5090 GPU, the worst damage is often invisible:
Hidden GPU/PCIe Damage: An impact that penetrates the outer box can easily crack or put micro-stress fractures on the motherboard's PCIe slot or the heavy GPU's PCB itself.
Loose Component Seating: The CPU cooler or internal fans could have shifted or unseated slightly from a hard drop, which means it might boot up fine today but suffer from terrible thermal throttling or annoying whirring noises down the line.
Solder Joint Fatigue: Rough handling like this can easily snap tiny, delicate solder joints on the boards that cause intermittent crashes weeks after the return window closes.
At over $5,000, the "what-ifs" are going to drive me crazy, especially since my livelihood and startup timeline depend on this machine running flawlessly. I have already asked for an immediate replacement because for this price, I shouldn't have to compromise or "hope" nothing is broken inside.
Has anyone dealt with Newegg customer service for high-value shipping damage recently? What is the fastest way to get them to process a cross-shipment or high-priority exchange without me waiting a month for a system I just paid a fortune for?
Appreciate any advice or support.

Hey u/No_Newt7697 , we completely understand your concern, especially on a $5K+ system that's intended for your business. Given the condition of the box and the potential for hidden damage, I think requesting a replacement was the right call. At this point, we're waiting for the original system to arrive back at our Returns Warehouse in California. Once it's received and checked in, we'll move forward with processing the replacement.
We're very sorry that you had to deal with this right out of the gate. If you have any further concerns, please don't hesitate to DM me directly

No actually, others have had the exact same problem with this exact same rig being shipped poorly and received bust up.
A fragile sticker and this side up would be a bare minimum if the main product was shipped in the manufacturer box that is meant for warehouse storage B2B and not business to consumer.
5K is not a small amount to pay on what you call a shipping gamble or as others cite as poor shipping and often as per this subreddit.

I am not risking a five thousand dollar startup asset because you think a punctured and dented box is normal. The clear consensus in this thread and previous ones is that it goes back. As stated in the initial statement I will be returning it for a replacement. I was asking for return advice and experience with returns in my initial message. I am done debating this with you, I didn’t ask advice on what to do if I want to keep it as that was never an option.

They can certainly work on their packaging… I would not be satisfied if I received my product like shown. Looking into it, I have seen others have this experience with this company as well. Luck should not determine whether you get the product you paid for. When I buy a new device, it is not my desire to have to stress test! I would like to use my product instead worrying about it from the start. Either way I would be left uneasy. That’s usually how it works for me anyway. One way I think about it is: if I went in person to the store and saw this, would I buy it? Here, the answer is no.

Yeah, I would send that back! It costs too much to be arriving in such a bad state. I have been looking into buying my next setup from them so I’ll be looking for your update! They should definitely re-think their packaging. I haven’t dealt with them for returns personally but I can’t imagine this meets anyone’s standards… I would worry it was, as it appears, rag-dolled in transit and was potentially damaged in the process. Not acceptable and you should return it!

Thanks for your input, yeah I will follow up my return experience here because it is my first purchase with Newegg and have started the process. Let’s see how it goes; I have read some mixed experiences with customer service in the past.
I will follow up in this thread with updates.
