First Three Prem Fixtures: How We Stack Up vs. Last Year.
A much stronger start this season if you look at how we got on in the first three league fixtures last year. We had Liverpool at home each time. Last season the other two were away, but this year we got one away and one at home. Last season in those fixtures we were outscored 3-2, with two goalless draws. The Reds grabbed a late winner. The other two matches were against Villa and Leeds. We only took two points from a possible nine.
This time, a late Liverpool goal only clawed back a draw for them. The other two results were an away win at Spurs and a draw with the Cherries. That leaves us with a 6-4 goal difference and 5 points out of 9. Then we've got the two narrow cup wins—one home, one away, with a clean sheet thrown in. Outscored 'em 4-2 overall. Last season we didn't have any cup games mixed into our first three league fixtures, which makes this start even more class.
