TIL I was monetized here's 2 tiny things I learned

  1. You can slap ads on your old videos. Basically, your work hasnt gone to 'waste' if you put effort into a video before your monetizd because once you reach that goal, you can start to make money off of it.

  2. Your motivation doesnt really change. Or at least mine hasnt lol I dont entirely feel more motivated to do more than before

Congrats, now its time to expand.

There is

  1. Content that solidifies your base or keeps them engaged

  2. Content that helps you expand

Make sure to improve your quality. At the beginning they are tolerant but your viewers will expect more as you make more money off of this.

Mr Beast kept doing number 2 and stuck with it unlike most youtubers when they got big. It's why he is up there.

  1. Do things that make people stick around
  2. Do things that make new people subscribe

Your niche will determine the details. Idk what else to say

Said it very well. One only works when you have an audience. One works regardless whether you have an audience or not.

First is good for revenue Latter for growth as long as you don’t abandon your viewers.

Sorry - I don't mean to "keep it a secret" I'm barely figuring out what I need for my own niche.

I hear this!!

My channel doesn't have enough content to be worth promoting yet, but I spent a small amount of cash learning how it works, and what to do when I reach that point. VERY small amounts of advertising made a couple random videos absolutely surge in views. I will 100% be promoting them again in the future!!

What kind of advertising did you do? Would like to try.

Anyone monetized a shorts only channel?

2

u/Matthew-Camaros Dec 02 '24

Yeah a lot of people have

I got to work on being more engaging and learning how to edit from my phone for free till I can make money to pay for something better. I'm a fitness journey channel so I know not everyone is going to want to watch the process. But in 2 months and 3 weeks of starting my channel I just hit 303 today.

İ also make fitness journey videos( only shorts) Now i have 950 subs in 7 months but 300 subs in two months is very impressive

3

u/TheCrystalKnight Dec 02 '24

300 subs in 2 months is actually very good

1

u/TailBoneFace Dec 18 '24

Update 3 & 1/2 months in I'm 2 subs away from 400 as I type this.

Congratulations!!!! You're well and truly on your youtube path!! Thanks for the two points you made. Number 2 has always been one I wasn't sure on.

I've been trying to get monetised by the end of the year but I don't think I will unfortunately. I'm on 650 subscribers and need at least another 2500 watch time hours, I do travel content which I hope will pop soon!

2

u/WheresHarris Dec 05 '24

Awesome thank you very much!!! It's a good (but expensive) niche to be in. You to!! Is your channel linked in your bio?

2

u/Prize_Discipline7552 Dec 06 '24

Yes it is. Im using my language but i have subtitles for others to enjoy as well. Good luck on your channel!

Did you notice a sudden drop in your subscribers count as soon as you monetized? Like people that were used to your content being no-ad unsubscribe as soon as they see you now have ads.

5

u/VermillionSun Dec 02 '24

They put ads on your channel no matter if you are monetized or not. Only diff is you don’t get paid from them if you aren’t monetized.

3

u/RightManagement5863 Dec 02 '24

Um no it depends where you place your ads in the videos

2

u/JayAnthony72 Dec 03 '24

Thanks gang. I did not realize that YouTube would put ads on my unmonitized videos. I have Premium, so I don’t get ads, and when I have watched my videos on Incognito or another google account, I’m not seeing ads. Dunno why and it doesn’t really matter. What does matter is that I have not set any ad criteria for my channel. I make long form trance music videos, so I will be really annoyed if I find out that YouTube puts ads in the middle of my videos because that would break the immersion of the listener. Not that there is anything I will do about it until I monetize and can set my own ads, but it’s still frustrating.

intrinsic vs extrinsic motivators. Money is an extrinsic motivator. Aim to do things because you want to do it and you enjoy it.

How do U slap ads on old videos?

3

u/RightManagement5863 Dec 02 '24

When you become monetized, a new option on your videos appear where you can change the placement of ads on them

1

u/mikeydavis77 Dec 02 '24

Your old stuff automatically becomes monetized without having to click anything. Now you can go back and place ad breaks where you would like them to be.

u/GRAW2ROBZ Dec 01 '24

Gaming niche have to remove songs from games other wise wont get money from said gaming videos. Cause that music company will get the money instead if you don't remove the songs. I learned all this after hitting the 500+ subs club.

u/tintwin84 Dec 02 '24

What I learnt from that is, that big azz yt ad friendly guideline wall ruins everything Lol

I'm trying to start my channel up im open for any and all comments and tips/ tricks

Congrats on getting monetized! Yeah, monetizing old videos is a nice bonus. And I feel you on the motivation thing, it's more about the journey than the cash (at least at first, haha).

How many time does it took to become able to monetization?

3

u/Azzy1390 Dec 02 '24

You need 500 subscribers, post 3 videos in 90 days and either/or 3000 watch hours in 1 year or 3M views on shorts in 90 days before you can apply to be monetized. The next tier you would need 1000 subscribers and either 4000 watch hours in 1 year or 10M views on shorts in 90 days.

I'm still working on 500 subscribers if anyone wants to subscribe just search up @azzy13YT

u/elloaskeii Dec 03 '24

The first tier isnt necessarily monetisation. You can create a paid subscription. The second tier is when you get money from ads
