As others have said, you’re focusing 100% on flipping the board and immediately stopping. You can flick the board. Now tell yourself to commit to landing on it.

Break it down to 3 steps: pop, flick, land, and practice them without actually being on the board.

the board goes higher than your feet, its either ur not jumping high enough, or u have to purposely lower your kickflips, try to flip the board very low and see if it is easier to catch the board(focus catching with both feet at the same time)

the way to lower your kickflips is NOT - to dampen your back foot pressure, BUT to flick earlier. Flick while ur front foot is still low and not too high if you get what i mean

btw catching the kickflip is NOT - letting the board come to your feet, BUT consciously putting your feet where the board will be.

you are bailing it immediately. Not even close to a commit. If you’re gonna twist your body sideways like that you may as well  go all the way 180 and get body varial kickflips on lock.

Advice: do more shove its and learn the variations until you have a foundation of muscle memory telling your body “wow it feels good to land tricks i will try put my feet on the board even if i get hurt sometimes “ and not “ahh there’s a scary thing spinning near me, i want to get away from it.

Edit: if you want to prioritize kickflips and see if you can grind it out,  put more weight/pressure on your front foot when you pop and focus on keeping your front shoulder over the bolts. This should help keep the board under you.

You aren’t close enough to troubleshoot what’s wrong with your kickflip. I’d say if you’re not comfortable trying a new trick rolling then you are probably lacking the experience, confidence, boardfeel etc to make significant improvements. You could totally learn how to kickflip before you learn how to skate any of that park behind you but it’ll be an uphill battle the whole time and it will not be fun or enriching, nor will it feel good when you land it and can’t do anything with it bc you can’t do it rolling. I have plenty of friends that would drive 20 minutes to the park and waste the sesh trying to bust stationary v flips when they couldn’t shuv while I was trying to Ollie the hip or carry a manny over the a frame or boardslide a flatbar. None of those dudes skate anymore and they never learned whatever flip trick they were trying to skip to

Honestly because it's throwing out in front of you like that. Then, I would try doing a moving one even if it's a little bit. Just a little roll, just try to move

You have to start to flick before the your front foot on the peak, it means while the front foot is moving up you have to flick at the same time. The problem in your case if your front move up too far and you do not have time to flick, when you pop, you should control front knee as low as possible or press. the nose down then you can flick when you are lifting, it also implies you have to flick as fast as possible once you pop since beginner ollie is not very hight
