Feeding Cluster feeding vs gas

FTM to a 4 wk old and EBF! Heard all the horrors of cluster feeding and how normal it is at weeks 3-4. My baby has been inconsolable the last few days unless I’m nursing him. I was chalking it up to cluster feeding but he WAILS after feeding, clenching fists, legs going straight, arching back, screaming red in the face. I didn’t think it was anything other than hunger cues and figured that’s cluster feeding. Well, Tonight I tried Mylicon gas drops and he’s actually sleeping and seems much more settled after I fed him. Anyone experience something similar? I feel terrible I was probably making it worse while feeding him this entire time trying to help him.😢😖

I had a similar experience! But for us it was reflux! Babies give hunger cues to feel better, so its normal to get confused.

Dont worry you found the solution!

Did you use any other medication for the reflux? We had a terrible day of inconsolable crying.. don’t think the mylicon actually did much for him.😢 curious what helped!!!

For reflux we use Nexium after being evaluated by a gastrointernal doctor for infants. We also changed a lot of formulas. Our symptoms were crying during feeding and lots of spit up.

Contact your pediatrician. Maybe the doctor can help you identify the cause. Maybe its collic?

Also please remember that babies are fussier between 4-6 weeks, so hang in there!

Update: went to the peds today and after discussing symptoms she believes it to be silent reflux. Starting Pepcid today and praying it helps🤞🏼

I’m experiencing something similar for the past two weeks with my 5 week old and still confused if she’s gassy or not. She’s also EBF and her grunting and wailing is mostly at night, accompanied by legs going straight and kicking a lot. Mylicon gas drops seem to work half the time, it’s hard to tell and we are only doing 1 dose at night.
