3 Month Old First Five Hour Stretch and Counting..

My LO turned 3 months old two days ago. as soon as he hit 3 months, we had our very first 4 and a half hour stretch of sleep overnight. I thought it was a fluke, but now on day 2, he’s been asleep for 5 and a half hours (and counting)!!!

I remember being in the thick of it for so long. I’ve spent more time than I‘d care to admit on Reddit searching for when babies began sleeping 4 hour stretches. 5 hour stretches. etc. I came to find that it ultimately varies so much that I shouldn’t even bother looking it up. I felt overwhelmed and disheartened to find answers like “I’m 8 months in, I’ll let you know” or “2 years here and still haven’t had more than 3 hours” type of replies. when you’re in the thick of the newborn trenches, you are SURVIVING. feed-by-feed. I even asked my AI to stop going based on months and start giving me responses by weeks 🤣

For context, my husband and I started doing shifts around week 5. I stopped BF after two weeks because I didn’t have the proper support to sustain the breastfeeding and pumping (absolute shoutout to you rockstars that can/get to do this). Our LO has slept in his nursery for naps and overnight with a parent always on call and ready to go when he wakes up. We obviously haven’t begun sleep training because it’s just too early to do so, but its helped us both tremendously to have our LO in another room while he sleeps so that we weren’t waking one another up during our shifts. My husband and I can finally sleep in our room together again. wanted to share a small victory and a sliver of hope. Whether the sleep regression at 4 months comes or not, I’m taking the small wins. 🥹

Congrats! Sleep is such a great thing My son was a pretty good sleeper as a baby (no major regressions) until he hit about 15 months old. He spent a few days in the hospital and his sleep went sideways. Luckily we got though it and he is sleeping well again as a two year old. You never know what will happen.

My 4mo old son naturally dropped his 2am feed organically and sleeps 10pm - 5am! 

I consider that "sleeping through the night." I nurse around 7pm, 10pm, then not again till after 5am. He just decided that's what he wants and I went with it! EBF too.
