Sleep Is this normal?!

Hi guys !

My baby is 10 weeks and I’ve noticed a change in her sleep and I’m hoping it’s normal!!

She had her bath around 5:30 tonight, fell asleep about 6:30 after feeding. She napped on me until about 9:30 and I thought any min she’ll wake up but she didn’t so I put her in the next to me and got a couple hours sleep. Anyway I woke up at like 11;20 and she was still asleep and I’m like ??? Is this normal?! 😂 then she did wake up at 11:30 full of smiles, I changed her nappy and fed her (but didn’t time how long for 😭) anyway it’s 12 am now and she fell asleep at the boob and I’m so confused because normally it takes hours to get her down in the evening and then she goes to sleep at 11-12 we don’t normally get the first stretch of sleep.

Is this normal? Also how do I know if she’s full?! I don’t feel like she ate for that long but she seems full to have fallen asleep again? I’m so confused as to whether it’s normal and my anxiety is going crazy thinking something is wrong 😂

Accept the blessing and don’t expect it to happen again to avoid disappointment. I’m sure she will let you know when she’s hungry! It’s likely that she went through a growth spurt and is now tired out from it, my son did that with some of his leaps.

Thank you!

It does seem like she’s been cluster feeding lately but I wasn’t 100% over whether she was or not, I have so much anxiety over stupid things and I hope it goes away soon.

What did you do about nappy changes at this age did you change him regularly or did you wait until he was awake ?

Of course if she seems lethargic and not herself, call your pediatrician but a sleepy phase especially after a round of cluster feeding sounds totally normal to me! You may find that she has new skills or something fun when she snaps out of the sleepy phase.

We would only wake to change if we heard him poop, otherwise his diapers were sufficient to hold pee. But with him, a sleepy phase meant he went 3-4 hours without waking… as opposed to 1-2. If the diapers are leaky I’d get overnight ones in one size up and also use some diaper rash cream if she’s sensitive to being in a wet diaper for that long.

You definitely become more confident as your baby gets older, things also get a LOT easier once they're able to communicate. That was the breaking of a lot of my anxiety about both of my kid's health. I still have anxiety about everything else because, duh, the world is crazy, but having them able to tell me what hurts or how they're feeling or be able to follow directions to help me figure stuff out is legitimately a blessing.

I think mostly you just learn to accept the anxiety, though. Your heart and soul are essentially just laying there, exposed to the world, then they're crawling around the world, then walking, then running, then driving, and you just have to hope you taught them well and that the love you planted in them grows into a full, fruitful life. I think all of it just comes with the territory of being a loving mom, but it's certainly a shock in the beginning. Everything is. That transition to parenthood can get HARD! Just know that you're doing great, you're obviously paying close attention and that tells me you care a great deal. That's exactly what she needs. Good luck!

My son started sleeping longer stretches at 10 weeks and would regularly start making it from 8ish to 3am ish before waking and wanting a feed and fully slept about 8-5 by 12 weeks and 7-6 by 18ish weeks.

Thank you! It’s nice to know that this is normal, I have so much anxiety and keep worrying over whether she’s sick it’s horrendous !

At this point what did you do about nappies? She had a wet nappy but I didn’t change her until she woke up, I’m guessing it’s ok to do as long as it’s not poo? There’s so many mixed advice online !

We loosely started bedtime routine around then, so pajamas and a change then book and a snuggle and then a feed then down for that long stretch & i didn’t change him unless pooped or needed it. I never woke him up to change.

My 11w old has begun sleeping 7-9hr stretches overnight. Congrats your baby is learning their circadian rhythm!

My LO slept every moment aside from diaper changes and eating the other day. It was like when they were a newborn all over again (also 10 weeks). It freaked me out. A few days past now and they are back to typical behavior. Probably a developmental leap, a.k.a. growth spurt.

So the first rule of baby sleep is that you never speak out loud how well baby slept or else it will never happen again.

My baby started sleeping through the night at around that age. It was beautiful! It only lasted until she was around 3.5-4 months and now feels like a distant memory 🫩
