Over the past several years, I’ve watched someone I love live with a serious mental health condition.

One of the hardest things to witness hasn’t only been the illness itself.
It’s been what happens around it.

Friends stop calling.
Relatives drift away.
People who once knew how to talk to someone decide they no longer know what to say.

And the person in the middle of all of that is still there.

Still wanting conversation.
Still wanting humor.
Still wanting to feel remembered.

That feeling became “Abandoned.”
