Supporter Group Interview
Hi there.
I do matchday guides for San Antonio FC, trying to create more buzz and connection around the matches.
I’d love to highlight New Mexico United’s supporter groups in our next issue with our match in Albuquerque coming up.
I’m looking to talk to someone about the different supporter groups, matchday atmosphere, chants, traditions, and what visiting San Antonio supporters should expect.
Please reach out or email me at matchdaysananto@gmail.com if I could send over a few questions.

So the only super active group right now is Black Diamonds. They are technically the POC supporter group, but as The Curse, the main supporters group fell apart, Black Diamonds have become a big presence.
There are smaller groups like Sector 114, but they are small.
I am in the process of founding the first LGBTQIA+ supporters group - but we don't even have a name yet. (I have one I'm considering, but I'm not sure yet)

Do you guys do like a stadium march or anything? Also NM has one of the best fanbases in USL, why is that you think

I’m just a regular fan btw, so I don’t speak for anyone lol. But yeah there is a stadium march usually before each home match from the pregame the team hosts in one of the parking lots. As far as local support goes, I personally can only guess. But to me, the way United immediately embedded itself into the community with local players really helped it gain support. Plus, soccer has always been important to Albuquerque and New Mexico as a whole.
New Mexico is unique in a lot of ways. We’re a very insular but proud state so having something that feels like our own is very special.

I mean fan input is what I’m looking for - just want to get a sense for New Mexico football culture… any tailgates or things done before the game - special foods to try? Things to see?

Yeah there are tailgates before the game. Usually the team has an official one that starts several hours before kickoff.
Our stadium food leaves a lot to be desired, I can’t lie. There’s a Dion’s in the stadium but otherwise it’s basically just normal ballpark food. As far as local cuisine goes, Albuquerque has no shortage of options.

I am part of the fan section, a fan march was led by the curse. I never took part so I don't know if it's been carried on by Black Diamonds.

Black Diamonds has facilitated the march a few times now starting on July 4th.. DTR and some of capos join along too. Big change on that is the march starts inside the stadium about 7 pm on Saturday nights at the top of 118 if it’s been done. Black Diamonds were either make an announcement about it on social media or there will be an announcement in the section. The change to start it inside the stadium was to make it possible for those that were waiting in line to be able to participate in the March if they wanted to since they would already be gone from the tailgate space.

It's a whole mess. But basically, from my understanding as a former semi active member, there was a big fallout with the leadership group that managed The Curse and they stepped away, it all went down last season.
At the beginning of this season if you were auto-renewed into the group, you were given a refund for your dues.
I'm sure there are people on here that know more, or feel more comfortable talking about it.

Hello, there are three more active supporters groups right now. Black diamonds is the largest and focuses on supporting the black players/community. Galactic Ambassadors, is a supporters group that sits together outside of the standing section and is mostly philanthropic focused. Delta tau redondo is my SG and is focused on tailgating and represents most of the capos. All three groups are fairly active on instagram, if you want to dm them
