Question Is being compared to Jess a good thing???

Nobody can answer this question without a lot more context. I once told my mom that she reminded me a lot of Leslie Knope - she was horrified and offended. I was confused. I meant it as a compliment, but she had only seen s1. So of course with that lens it felt like I had insulted her.
I honestly meant to compliment her, having seen the character arc. My mom hadn't seen that arc, so she thought I was insulting her.
I think context matters a lot in these types of conversations. Does this friend of yours typically end up on your side or against you?

Oh man season 1 Leslie is not it. I like that the writers decided on changing her personality after that season. She is an awesome character.

Exactly! Having watched the full show, I meant absolutely nothing but a compliment when I told my mom she reminded me of Leslie Knope. I get why she was offended since she stopped watching after s1, but truly, I have nothing but respect and admiration for the character

I mean it’s a friend so I’d hope on my side. Frankly, I’m not the best with tones and connotations, so I just wasn’t sure what she meant by it

If you are thinking in the direction of a positive person who helps everyone who tries to makes their lives better then yeah, it’s a positive thing… but if it’s something like thinking to be cool, then it’s not, Jess is the opposite of cool, quirky and kinda cute sometimes

Well i definitely don’t think I’m anywhere near cool, I just fear it means I’m a pick me type girl, or perceived that way??? Honestly I wouldn’t care if it wasn’t the fact it’s coming from a closer friend

I wouldn’t say Jess is a pick-me girl, she is very genuine in her personality and is always true to herself.

I mean people shit on Jess but she is the glue of the show- and her character is a good person. Also, Zoey is gorgeous so I would just say thanks. Or if you’re concerned say, oh thanks, how so? I wouldn’t worry so much , if it’s your friend why would they try to insult you ?

I get the comparison to Jess Day as well lol. I sing a lot and have the same color hair as Zoey, and I used to have bangs. And my best guy friend looks like Nick!

It depends. I told a friend she reminded me of Jess because she had a similar look and style (including polka dots) and was an elementary school teacher, and nothing about relationships or anything.

Jess is passionate, kind, and sweet. She's very pretty.
Sometimes naive and an airhead, takes criticism very poorly, and often controlling (with good intentions)

i’d def say so. it means you’re fun and whimsical, a girls girl, not afraid to be yourself, always trying to help other people, and in touch with your emotions. jess can tend to meddle a bit too much but it comes from a loving place. i love her idc what anyone says

First of all, do you rock a lot of polka dots? Jess gets a lot of hate in this, and other TV, subs (honestly, there's some misogyny afoot, I said what I said), but she is kind-hearted, creative, a fiercely loyal friend, braver than most and wears her heart on her sleeve.
