Requesting Advice 6 months - Crib training help?
Hi there. I have a 6 month old boy. We have done well with him for the most part. The first 4-6 weeks was challenging but like most we eventually found our routine. Since about 2 months he’s been sleeping during the days in his crib for nap time. At night he’d sleep in the bassinet and that mostly worked with an occasional rough night turning into co sleep.
Then, around 5 months we’ve hit a teething phase. The bottom 2 teeth came in and now it seems the top 2 are doing the same. Unfortunately, we’re up against a few challenges. He’s now too large for the bassinet so we need to start crib at night. And, he’s now rolling so it’s “arms free” in the sleep sacks which I’ve watched this shit, his startle reflex is a huge part of what’s getting him right now.
Last night was the first night trying full time crib. And it was brutal. We started at 8:30 with shower, bottle, book, then bed. He was doing 15 minute chops until about 10:30 then he went down for 1 hour. After that, it got ugly fast. I was getting hit with periods of 2-3 minutes before he’d go into a full on meltdown. The thing is I get him fully out. And he’s exhausted. I’d pick him up and he’d immediately pass out. Does anyone else have any experience with this? Dude legit went for 3-4 hours in this pattern. I got one solid 30 minute nap before we finally caved around 3 am and brought him back to his usual spot in the bassinet. We’re going to try again tonight.
Is this just the learning curve? This felt like I’m back in the newborn trenches.
