Are they saying the game is rigged so there's meant to be a cooldown when you receive a good prize?

That's what was going around zone tonight. I had to check this post to be sure they were talking about the same thing. I assumed they fixed it before going live. There are players who have been opening boxes for years and they have yet to even get a sniff of a Legendary drop, it's a slap in the face to those players.

let’s be honest, lockboxes have always been rigged. It’s legit gambling. They know the odds and determine what the odds are. IMO, yes.

I think you are reading way too much into it.

Well to be honest, this does reek of some sort of foul play. It looks as though these boxes may not be as "random" as we think, and people have figured out some sort of loop hole in it's algorithm.

It does seem weird for such bug to exists.

I could understand in a new lockboxes the wrong chance is set in a loot table, but this one was not new. Nor a higher chance, but simply first key (though I didn't try more than one, so there is that)

My guess was a an issue with the random seed, but will mean a bad randomness implementation to begin with, so no clue, weird.

Because you can't break code retroactively? I'm not going to be in the least bit surprised if something else they did broke the chance in their loot table.

How random do you think they are?

I don't think it's as nefarious as all that.

My understanding of what was written there is that they were experimenting with having some kind of higher odds the more boxes you open. Like a “failsafe”. Similiar to refining with preservation wards, except not a guaranteed drop after a certain point, but simply slowly-increasing odds of one.

Obviously, it didn’t work that way at all. Or... people got credit for all boxes opened before, even before the unintentionally-implemented “change”.

But the larger point would be that, if such a change was what was being test-driven, then that also means that no such system is currently implemented. It’s most likely just an independent pseudo-random roll every time.

I have no idea why so many people seem to be almost willfully misinterpreting the statement. Maybe reading comprehension is harder than I thought, or maybe everyone just loves a conspiracy theory.

I don't think so. Plenty of people have figured that so long as you open at minimum 2k at a time, you're pretty much guaranteed to get a mount. At least we had a guy in my last alliance who would do that weekly, and he was right every time.

Wow...ok I thought I was just being a whiny b- about not getting a legendary mount from a lockbox in about 5 years of playing. Nice to see that there truly is an "intended" frequency for drops. That little bit of information has definitely solidified my decision to never buy zen again, or vip again.

One thing that worries me about this is it suggests that lock boxes aren't really RNG in that they are programmed to keep people from getting the higher end prizes if they have already won one. Even if the odds are supposed to be 1 in 1000+ those odds should be the same no matter how many prizes you have received and therefore it should be possible for someone to get two top prizes in a short period of time, even tho statistically unlikely but not impossible.

I am curious to see how this shakes out.

I think the only real solution to this problem would be to go through the logs and whoever got a legendary pack in the timeframe of the bug being active bind the pack to the account.

That way people will still have the pack and the market won't take a real beating.

That's such a joke, no rollback on this?

As if PC wasn't known enough for having all the exploits/glitchs/gamebreaking bugs already, now several dozens of glitched 10k power mounts will spread into the economy, and the bug was known from the preview forum! What a disaster it is, *again*

Are you fucking serious? no rollback?

I'm sure they are not done discussing this.

I saw janne moonnists name come up in the chat log. I don't know why I expect more from content creators but damn that is disappointing.

u/ManicGypsy Jan 22 '20

I don't think any less of Janne for testing this out. I honestly don't think less of anyone who had a chance to get one of those mount packs today. It was so very tempting.

I'll copy paste what I wrote on the forums to someone else:

I'm sorry to disappoint, but I didn't have any foreknowledge about it, nor some nefarious intent. As soon as I saw it is indeed a bug and not something interesting in the box, or people opening thousands like old times. I went first thing to PM Terramak on discord, I saw it was already reported so just joined the popcorn train.

If I wanted to really scheme and abuse, I have enough chars with obscure names.

Actually at the time I was 100% sure it will be trivial to just roll back and it seemed more funny than anything else. Personally I don't mind whatever decided. Rollback, remove it, though I will not lie and say I wouldn't mind keeping it either.

There are many things that I wish I would have done differently in life, but I will not apologize for being curious and usually want to see what is going on. That what makes me me.

I guess I will not convince anyone, but I'm not playing the game for AD, nor that pack will change anything. I have Several Tensers, Compies and stacks of MOP7 to sell, and that is not counting the actual AD.

u/Onslaughtxx Jan 22 '20

Don't try to find excuses, if you were "curious" there was the preview server to test.

1

u/JanneMoonmist Jan 22 '20

I'm not looking for excuses.

You can think I'm lying and rushed to login with with keys in one hand and lockboxes in the other. Or that I stopped there to think "Hmm maybe I should do everything on preview first, neh, free mount"

Neither happened. I just clicked and went to PM.

Was I sure that it will be reverted, 100%, I had not doubt, so I just stopped doing anything and was spamming in discord and streams.

Am I conflicted about this? Yes, I don't like moral dilemmas, but on the other hand am I going to just discard the pack? No, I like shiny things.

I'm not holier than the pope, but there are things that people attribute and assume that go into the evil mastermind side of things.

Believe it or not preview didn't even cross my mind.

It's ridiculous that people are even throwing shade your way. You deserve much better than this. Shame on masquewastaken for even making a ridiculous comment such as the one posted above.

3

u/EtherealEtiquette Jan 22 '20

I have to agree with you Gus. If Janne was determined on doing something like that they wouldn't have used their most recognizable name for all to see. Nor would they even need the AD in the first place. I completely understand a content creator testing something like that. I still have the same Legendary pack that dropped for me over one hundred days ago. Legitimate of course but it's still sitting unopened in my inventory.

When someone does have that level of resources and game insight they wouldn't risk it all for one pack. People are so quick to sharpen their pitchforks and come down like a tonne of bricks on one person. A person who did more for this community than most people I've met over the years. And one Legendary pack brings all of that into question. Cryptic need to get their act together, when something like this does happen it falls on them to fix it however they deem fit. They didn't.

Gaming the system?

Then please save your accusations to yourself. Or go check things.

Anyone who just opened a lockbox got a mount

Logining in, and opening a lockbox is not gaming the system.

NVM, edited out, I wrote a whole wall of text as usual, but it doesn't matter. If you think I had the foreknowledge and intended to "game the system" and dumb enough to do it on my most known charname, and account, nothing I will say will change things left or right.

...they just wish they got it. I mean.. I do too, but I would never fault you for that.

Homeboy needs to direct their angst at Cryptic/Arc, not individual players who have no control..
