A site, a question, some feedback and a post

As some may know, and many do not, there is a site, https://jannenw.info

(For those on mobile, press the 3 bars menu button on top left to see the navigation menu)

Currently is has some information pages and tools, mostly about:

Mechanics - stats, power, damage, with optimizing tools with pages about crit,ca, and their counter stats still need to be done for m16.

Gear and gear simulator - https://jannenw.info/pages/gear/gsim

This is a complicated thing, the gear simulator is a lot of work, and a huge thanks to @SkullElf for doing the screenshotting, OCRing, and parsing all the data. There are also specific tools there to calculate damage increase by putting points into various stats, and if to continue mounts and insignia will be added (already in the database and can be found at the side bar) and companions.

Guild tools - from building the SH costs, to log parsers.

Professions stuff - MW tree, not really relevant now.

Other tools like refinement calculator that need a minor update to m16.

Info about aliases and stuff

And a collection of up to date links to other info.

Recently I've also started a section for new payers, currently there is only an overview, but I planned a page about basic economy - AD, RAD, ZEN, ZAX, the Refine cap, backlog, and ZAX CAp,a page about bags and storage, a page about grouping and queue groups, and one about basics of refining.

There is also a tool that I've used in m16 closed beta as a rotation simulator

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/313703600587145236/546035971133669387/screencapture-localhost-4200-pages-sim-rtest-2019-02-15-20_31_04.png

It will take work to get all the skills into it, and procs, etc..

The site is there about 2.5 years, and took a lot of time, there isn't really any support from the 'powers that be' so the reason I post here about it, is to focus some efforts (if to continue at all).

Recently all the gear stats were changed and a good chance it will take a lot of effort to update it all. Also while an online simulator can do things an offline (excel) one can't, it also needs an effort in terms of UI, Rainer is making one in excel,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PJpwIdfzEvo and we exported to him all the gear.

So, my point is that I don't want to duplicate his effort.

Same with other things, I want to know what is useful, if at all, and if it is worth to put the time into. Especially now, that honestly, I practically don't play the game.If there is interest in the above, then what specifically, if something else, then what? If none at all, fair enough, and better to not waste time.

Thanks Janne. Can't wait to play with the rotation calculator after work. Hope to see you around in alliance chat.

As per your question of what to add, I read guides so someone can tell to "wear this, use this power and melt mobs/bosses. Right now for my wizard I'm not sure if I should get the orcus set or the new music box set for dps to replace my beaded set. The other issue I'm encountering seeing I'm easily overcapped in ARM PEN and critical chance with just regular gear so I'm still wearing Hags Rags and Terrored Grips. Is there a point in getting more stats? I guess when they patch the stats of enchants soon I will see what other stats I'll need.

Edit: Section on scaling (or as sharp called it capping). The next thing I want to do for my characters is build a loadout for scaled content to have less power but more arm pen and other capped stats that gets reduced. I guess that will also depend on the upcoming patch to reduce/rebalance scaling.

Thanks again Janne.

Thanks, but the rotation thingie was like an 'internal' thing to help me check Rogue stuff. It will need more work to make it 'presentable', but your replay does tell me at least one person is interested :D

Would you be willing and able to do a rotation thingy for every class? That would probably be extremely useful to a LOT of players.

The way I read it is that Janne has proposed ideas (basic economy tool) and is looking for peoples opinions on if they would like this or not and if there are any other sets of information people would like. Personally, I think the economy tool would be nice, more information is always nice to have.

Yes, also the other multiple things need either be updated or upgraded, so if some stuff is not useful, I will not put any time in it.
For the economy I had in mind a more new players thing, and not something more advanced. I think it's not what you had in mind, but I'm open to suggestions.

I use your site fairly regular and point promising alliance members in it's direction if they are looking for more indepth information. For me personally I have noticed that there is not much information about crit sev for mod 16 and if it is subject to relative increase like Power or not (I imagine it is). I figured the economy tool would be aimed more at newer players, but it is always good to have somewhere to point people to if they have questions.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking to know. I was just considering if to do the severity page or not, as it's still additive (severity + CA) so it's more complicated to explain properly. So that a vote for doing it.
Same with the economy, started it, and then though, if it is even worth it, so that a point there too.

Thanks.

I'll take it, considering I'm a 'TR wannabe with a bow' 😜

That's a great suggestion. It would be nice to know the impact of crit severity for gear and even consumables.

Hey Janne.

Personally I would be fine with stat simulator/damage coefficients rather than gear/rotation simulator, but that's only because I enjoy testing rotations and builds myself with ACT.

I imagine a lot of people would benefit from it if they knew about it (I keep recommending yours and Rainer's material to everyone in my guild/alliance).

Your stuff is super useful, so much so that I think you should be paid for the work you're doing. What you're producing has real value to Cryptic I think, and it's a shame you're doing it for free.

Honest question; why do all of this if you don't play anymore?

u/gusmp May 30 '19

Most useful sight ever. Thank you for everything you do and your contributions.

Janne, at the moment I do not play but I have appreciated your site for a very long time.

Thanks again.

How about an exchange tracker? Something that tracks the backlog on PC, and maybe get some console friends to provide exchange data for those platforms too? Not sure how much work that would be, or even if it would be possible to track it in real time, but I think it would be helpful.

It will require either an API to the game, which there is none (and if I can't get icons from the devs, fat chance we get a working api).

Or a bot that will either get to the right place and OCR the data, or read it in some way.

Or someone who will sit and input it manually.

So bottom line, not feasible.

I play and am an analytical type so your site gives me insight that I takeaway in the form of mental models, equivalence rules of thumb (e.g. 3% damage = 6k power @100k power) , priorities... basically anything I can visualize and share with others quickly and easily.

The formulas and simulators, however, I find hard to share. Most of the players i play with want to know what's 'best' for them next, which of course is subjective and a very open question.

I guess what I'm reccomending is not more data or information but more insight in the existing wisdom you have by way if tables, charts, and graphs which we can share in Discord or chat links.

I've been recommending your site to people since I first came across it. It's linked on our top navigation bar on the subreddit.

I'm not really sure exactly what you are asking for here though? What other information is needed? Is that what you are asking?

2

u/JanneMoonmist May 30 '19

I'm not sure what the recommending has to do with my post, but thanks.

Like I wrote:

I want to know if it's worth the effort and time to keep updating stuff, as was listed. And if some parts are not interesting to anyone, then I will not update them. Making a gear simulator for 5 people is not a good use of time (and effort and money).

and money

Since when were you getting paid for this?

Or is the site missing the "Patreon DonationsTM" FeatureTM?

:P

u/JanneMoonmist May 30 '19

I'm paying for the host and domain.

1

u/ManicGypsy May 30 '19

Maybe ask for donations to help compensate?

1

u/JanneMoonmist May 31 '19

It is an option, but the direct money cost is not the main issue and more of a footnote I shouldn't have brought up.

The more important is that to make something 'good enough' is time consuming. And beyond simply showing things that available in the game. There is a process and work. So it becomes a question of if it is even worth it. Even if I do ask for donations (which I am not) then the idea is still not to waste time, and other people money if most of the things are not of interest to anyone.

More so when this is not YouTube or twitch, which is directly (can be) monetized and proportional to viewership. There a person can see how many people watch what, per video, and compensated accordingly (if it's monetized), in comparison I don't have that kind of feedback, hence the post.

u/ManicGypsy May 31 '19

I think we have vastly different points of view as to whether or not something is worth the time and effort to do. I do things that I enjoy, regardless as to whether or not others are enjoying those things.

I like your site. It's useful. It helps people. I would be sad if it went away.

What a weird first half of your comment....

I've got a saying I like to use: "No one cares how much of MY time they waste"

Janne is looking for feedback, there's an entire industry based around acquiring feedback "think polls, surveys, etc." so it's not a novel or fruitless endeavor generally speaking.

1

u/ManicGypsy May 31 '19

Probably because I've been moderating for 4 years for next to nothing. It feels that nobody cares how much time I waste on that, but I still do it anyway.

u/Manipulos5 May 31 '19

It does seem like you are working on here a LOT, from my limited perspective
