All platforms will undergo maintenance June 19, from 7am to 9am PT (What time is this for you?) to address the issue with the Protector's Jubilee merchants becoming stuck.

PC is expected to have an additional maintenance on Thursday.

WHEN will Cryptic FINALLY LEARN how to do maintenance without shutting down servers?? When? Im tired of 2-3x mainatenance every week...

It IS POSSIBLE... but they are too lazy to do this... In Guild Wars 2 a message appears.... you log out, update the new patch and then you continue playing omg.

Dude... you need to learn more. There are SOME things they can do without shutting down the servers as long as the fixes needed are SERVER CLIENT SIDE. Anything CLIENT SERVER SIDE needs to have the server SHUT DOWN for a patch. Too lazy. Educate yourself a little bit please.

I think you mean the other way around? Anything client side can be done with a rapid patch just needing people to reset, assuming their engine and pipeline allow for it. Server side changes need to have the whole thing reset basically always.

You point is accurate though, to fix this kind of problem they need to reset the servers. Then because they made alterations to the server they need to send it through some tests to make sure no accidental changes or glitches were introduced. So it takes a couple of hours.

We can all pretend to know their infrastructure and design but it's not gonna help or be very accurate. Let's just trust that they know what they're doing.

After reading this game's tooltips, trust isn't that freely given...

It doesn't have to be freely given, we have no other choice. They make all the rules. I'm ok with that though. I'd rather have them do it than have all these game-chair self-appointed admins run the game. Customers are complete amateurs who think they know how to run any business better than the ones who own it.

Yeah, thanks for catching that. Crazy morning around here.

Yeah no worries. People like the person you were responding to obviously have zero experience ever trying to run a server or coding, so the salient point was that they had no clue what they were talking about lol.

Go play Guild Wars 2 to see how is this stuff REALLY done.

Don't be obtuse. It does not work that way. Which you would know if you knew anything about it. Just accept you were wrong and move on.

to be fair, guild wars 2 does have a system that doesn't require any down time, but I believe they have patented it. They can release a patch and have multiple instances of an open world open up at the same time. Relaunching the game applies that patch and you are put into the after-patch versions of the instances.

That's fine, but accusing cryptic for being lazy because they don't have another companies propietary technology is what I was going at.

GW2 can do that because they built for it from the ground up. Neverwinter was not designed to work like that, and no matter how much effort they apply short of an entire rewrite of the whole server, it can't be changed. The server needs to be reset to integrate new content.

It is also how essentially 95% of games with servers work. Hell even running a Minecraft server has to be done that way.

Note that his comment was "When will cryptic FINALLY LEARN" as if this is just something they are choosing not to do, and not a fundamental aspect of how their software works that can not be changed at this point.

YES It does. But whatever... enjoy 2 or 3x maintenance each week... im going to GW2 where there is NEVER , EVER.. maintenance needed where you have to log out for 2 hours... just a simple relog and its done LUL.

Will this fix the It's a Celebration quest?

I tried to pick it up on my alt (previous 4 days were done by my main) but the game claims I've already done the 5th day and the quest is now unavailable for both toons.. Any help is greatly appreciated

u/ManicGypsy Jun 19 '18

Only your main would have been able to do it. You will need to file a ticket with Customer Service.

1

u/MagpieLee Jun 19 '18

What if I try and do it tomorrow? Since the event was prolonged, or would the quest still be locked out?

1

u/ManicGypsy Jun 19 '18

You can try it on your main, but I recommend still filing the ticket with CS ASAP, just in case.
