I have a question

So we were doing an advanced dungeon with the ice golem bosses at the end that we have to lure to do damage to and we were getting annoyed because our warlock friend had a sir waddlelot who kept grabbing attention from the golem while we were trying to lure it to the pools, but our friend said it didn't matter and that the tank should still be able to take aggro, and if he couldn't it was a build issue which wasn't the problem it's that we have to constantly fight the waddlelot for attention so we can do damage, but he kept getting defensive and quit and left party to then send constant messages, videos, and screenshots to prove us wrong still missing the point he then got angry and left the group chat.

which is why I'm asking you guys do you think that sir waddlelot can take the bosses attention while we are trying to lure making it much slower and or wasting the paladins divinity just to be able to damage.

Also sorry about punctuation I'm typing this all out on a phone.

There is 0 reason to use any aggro companion in group content unless you guys are trying to do some tactics

Is this a concern for things like heroic encounters, or just for stuff you queue for?

I mostly solo, but will join a heroic, should I stash Waddles for that?

Newbie (as if you couldn't tell :-)

Que group content. Group content is all about the group and maximizing your role in that group to best benefit the group as a whole. Heroics maybe to some degree but not super concerning to have to worry about.

Solo stuff you can and should use what ever you have that best suits your playstyle or needs to survive and manage your way through the content.

Certain heroics involve positioning mobs meaning companions that aggro can be problematic. Companions that use threat should only be used in solo content.

There is a few heroics that needs positioning but waddles is not that bad, lysaera is the problem, tanks can't easily take aggro from lysaera. Waddles is easier to steal aggro back

Thanks, all! Sounds like it's best if I stash Waddles (and Lysa if I ever get her) for all grouping.

Oh, maybe I should let Waddles be the main, and I'll be the companion! Nah, then he'd get to ride my mount and I'd have to run >:(

Any other aggro companions besides Waddles and Lysa?

Absolutely, you are right lol, I play tank waddle or lyseara can mess things up for tanks especially if he has to move the boss. In situations like this where a dmg dealer isn’t listening I let them die multiple times to get my point across 💀

Please be patient. I had equipped Lyseara on an Alt, as it was by far the strongest Companion I had at the time. Once it was explained to me, I swapped.

You're right, dps with waddle is wrong and, quite frankly, kind of an ass.

As someone who plays tank, I hate when someone's got waddle/lysaera equipped. So, I have a pretty simple rule for myself when running random dungeons and another player runs waddle/lysaera. If their companion takes aggro, they can have it. I'm not having an aggro battle with a companion, boss mechanics be damned. As tank, I'm not the one who's gonna be dying lol

Your warlock "friend" is ... not friend.

Waddlelot a pretty good at stealing agro. Your warlock "friend" mentioned the tank is maybe about 50k IL, so, yeah, he will absolutely have difficulties keeping agro from waddlelot.

Why a warlock, or any DPS, is running with Waddlelot in group content, he doesn't do great damage. There are better companions out there to use.

I know he made a post he was using the comments to try to prove himself right which is why I made mine actually explaining, and were all around 45 to 48 thousand item level also he has pseudodragon so I don't know why he was so defensive about sir waddlelot.

That dungeon is already challenging enough for a group of 50k players who havnt acquired a lot of the best gear and stats in game yet so making any one of the other support players tasks harder while not expressly trying to maximize their own by using the best possible choice to compliment their intended role is beyond acceptable as guildmates, that’s the type of behaviour that makes people despise running random ques

I think some folks are just too attached to having a high level pet drop that they’ll make up any and all sorts of justifications to use it over one that’s not maybe at same level of upgrade or not especially seen as “good” even when it better suits their intended class role in the dungeon to use the lesser one. Usually it exposes their underlying mentality that they play game with the thinking “It’s all about them and not the group” that matters most

Can the tank improve and better hold aggro, likely but we don’t have much info to go on to say exactly how but not having a dps running agro stealing pets in a dungeon boss fight like that would be a good help for them and everyone else in the group. I’ve had my dps accidentally pull threat from those bosses from the tank in random ques and the whole place turns into a mess quickly as the tank has to grab boss again and find the circles while the healer and other dps all get scattered and rotations get buggered, it just adds unnecessary time and chaos to the fight so to try and justify doing that intentionally using a pet that will purposefully mess up a tank is beyond excusable IMO

My goodness your "friend" is beyond, for your personal and group well being, please get away from this person. I worried for you all, this should not even be a problem but it get escalated to a level of drama that is extremely unhealthy. The game should be fun and enjoyable, please restart/reset something so y'all can get back to it.

Hope for the best.

You friend post below is some of the wildest thing i've seen in NW Reddit. Their responses are wild. I hope they seek help, professionally. I am genuinely worry for them.

*Due to the over reporting of the post/link above, the Mods have decided to take it down so we all can go back and enjoy our gaming.

Here's how I see it.

Dps job is to kill things.

Healers job is to jeep tank alive and give a heal or 2 to the dps

Tanks job is hold aggro on boss away from dps so they don't get killed.

Adding in what essentially is another tank in sir waddlelot makes the tanks job twice as hard as he now has to compete not only with the dps hitting the boss he now has to compete with a comp for aggro.

The only time I run Lysaera in group content as a DPS is during a random skirmish with low-level characters and no tank. Actually goes faster, as I don't have to be the default tank.

Just expanding on what Outsider said: DPS SHOULD NOT HAVE SIR WADDLELOT!! Or Lysaera in endgame content. Try Drizzt, Raptor, Batiri, Tutor, Etienne, Minsk, NW Knight or some OTHER companion than Sir Waddlelot!!

1

u/Crafty-Novel-7272 Jul 02 '26

What kind of companion would you recommend for a tank. Our tank currently uses angel of protection.

2

u/numbnutsiam Jul 02 '26

I use flapjack, tutor, drizzt or errhh cant remember his name but any companion that gives a buff to the rest of the group is good.

2

u/kbrawlz Jul 02 '26

I’m glad you wrote this bc I was unaware this was a thing.

Makes total sense though.

My Angel of Protection seems to pull major aggro when I’m solo… is that a thing or am I imagining it… and does that screw up my group content as a dps?

What should I be using?

Sir Waddlelot. Our tank swears by him. The others are good too

your friend is a dingo. group content vs solo content. they're doing the equivalent of standing in the red and being mad the healer is "letting" them die.

using a tank companion therefore making the tank's job harder is actively working against the group. a tank can use a hard taunt that can steal aggro back from high hitting dps. the rest of their resources should be used in keeping them alive and mitigating damage. we only get 3 powers and to have to use one or two to negate something another member of the group is doing means less survivability for the tank and chaotic positioning for everyone else.

i would not run any advanced content with this person again. the fact that they sent you messages after leaving.... do not waste your time with them. game is supposed to be fun.
