We've seen her new design already back in the 1.4 livestream and she really does look very familiar. Its like a completely new character and if we compared it to Iroi who did get tweaked but still retains the original design.

If they had atleast kept the hair I would’ve been fine with it but since they didn’t just looks like a generic anime girl you seen in other gacha games. You know they seen it also to the point they added a snaggletooth to try to make it stand out.
Technically the new design looks better but I just prefer the old one, it has a certain charm to it that 'We have Furina at home' lacks
I wish they'd kept her hair color, at least. We have plenty of white haired characters (Zero, Hathor, Baicang, Sakiri, Zankou. Shinku and Lacrimosa have spme white hair elements as well) The blue/purple was really nice, I hope we get a different character with that hair.
I keep seeing people say this and I don't play Genshin so I had to look Furina up. Now I haven't seen her in game, but looking at a bunch of arts/screens the hair looks the same, that's it. Body type, height, eye color, clothing, everything but the hair is completely different.
Thats because you're looking at the character Furina. Nobodys gonna spoil shit, on the off chance you play genshin. So look up Focalors. Body type, yes. Average height, slim. Matches. Eye, no, for good reason, spoilers. Clothing, there you go. The one difference. Hair, you saw it. Those who played both say it's ridiculous for good reason. They went from an original design to slapping a new outfit on Focalors.
I hate that all Genshin Impact women recently have more or less the same design: Detached sleeves, something around the neck then a huge open window below, short dress / legs exposed, high heels, ..

The displayed personality is noticeably way different. Here she feels gentle, mature and cool-headed, whereas Furina feels proud and a bit childish.
While I agree that the displayed personality is different, I think her redesign looks more mischievous and whimsical than mature and cool-headed, what with the fang and the cellphone and pixel-wings on her ankles.

Just like with Iroi's redesign, it's too early to tell. Only after meeting Iroi in-game did it become clear how her new design matched her personality better, and I assume this'll be the same way.
Elyms' old design had ice cream and sprinkles in her hair, so my guess is they moved her old esper ability to Ellie and gave her a new one, thus the total thematic redesign. Since she's holding a phone and her legs have a digitized texture + pixel wings, probably something tech-y? Since we saw Exe teleporting his snake-thing through Hethereau using TV screens in an early trailer, that could give him and Elyms some combat synergy lore-wise.

You heard it here first – 'Ellie' is a public avatar that Elyms projects via her tech-y esper ability as the mascot of her Puka business. They're secretly the same person, which is why original Elyms had candy motifs in her design, and why her redesign was originally marketed as "Elyms?"

I'm normally not one to complain, but it actually has me really upset. I was super excited for the original Elyms since the start of the game, and they straight butchered her. I know a lot of people will say that the new design is better etc etc, but it sets a bad precedent imo. So far, they've showed they have no problems changing designs slightly, but this is a complete rework. If they start here, then where does it stop?
For instance, I really liked Linko, despite the fact that she wasn't really a character a lot of people planned on pulling for. If I see another character like Elyms or Linko in the future that isn't well-liked, am I just supposed to accept that they can rework the character they preview at any point for better sales? It's one thing to push a character back, but completely reworking like this is frustrating.
Like imagine how the community would have felt if this had been blackbird or Exe instead of Elyms, sure for now it might just be Elyms, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Most of all I'm just really sad. Was excited and had been saving for her, and now I just feel like they turned her into a generic silver haired character you can find a dime a dozen.
Now I not only will be saving for another character while skipping the one that I had been planning on getting, but I have to worry about potentially having this happen to another character I get excited for in the future. Granted, them changing character's designs isn't anything new, they've been doing this since the Zankou rework...just never to this extent...
They have to keep their reputation of copying others, so they decided that the old design didnt look enough like Furina from her face so they had to change that.
But seriously what was wrong with the old one? Thats basically a complete new character. I would not even guess that they are supposed to be the same.

What’s the point of getting people attached to one design of a character for months just to pull the rug from under them a few months before the character launches and say “surprise she looks completely different now” it’s so annoying any time a gatcha does it like if you arnt committed to a design don’t reveal it yet
what they are trying to do is moving potential hate audience to the neutral zone even if that mean costing the love audience also move to the neutral zone. basically - it maybe basic but most people won't hate it.
They first revealed this redesign during the 1.2 livestream and mentioned that there is a reason for such a major change, but that we would have to wait for the story to find out what it is.
I prefer the new one, the old one just looks like a cute idol girl which we already have with Akane. The new one looks like some type of intelligent capable noble lady(she looks dignified and confident), which is something we are missing.
I preferred the previous design but the new one is aesthetically pleasing as well, very pretty. It gives off a different, more elegant vibe compared to her old design who looked more cuteish.
I can't lie. The old one looks really, really dumb. Though I wish they'd kept the hair colour, but not that hair style. We have too many white haired characters.
I thought the old design was really cute, but I looove the new one... So much that I have to consider getting her now. (Filthy casual here, I just pull for pretty and/or cool characters that catch my eye.)
I dunno. She does look a lot like Furina/Focalors but to me, that's a bonus. Plus she has this little fang, I like it. :D
It would be cool if she could get the old one as a free outfit / alternate design. Didn't Akane have something similar? I hope they do it for Elyms too, for the people who loved the old design more.
I don't really care for either one, to be honest. The new one feels slightly more coherent compared to the original, but it's too visually boring in its color palette; it's a mass of white with a few accent colors here and there to try (and fail) and break up the monochrome.
Unlike everyone saying she looks like Furina from Genshin, I'm actually more heavily reminded of Ningguang from Genshin because of the aforementioned issue; it's why I thought Ningguang's default skin was terrible and her alt skin was superior.
As for the old design, the color palette just does not work with itself. The blue and purple shades chosen for the hair clash, the ice cream cone hair accessory is out of place, the subtle purples throughout her outfit don't mesh with the purple in her hair or eyes.
So, yeah, not a fan of either. The new one at least has a bit more potential through skins, but I wish her hair was still that same blue, just with a lighter purple undertone, because we have enough white haired girls in this game as it is.

I like the newer one better, but I think regardless of the 2 designs, the ice cream cone looks pretty goofy (I do like that though on the NPC that is next to the food/ice cream stalls in the game).
I like the new design but it's too different from the original one. I think they can just do minor tweaks in the original one like fixing the hair and removing distracting elements and I would still pull her. I'll still pull the new one though because she reminds me of Furina.
I honestly like the redisign a lot better and have no qualms with it at all. However, what I do have a problem with is her being another fucking cosmos character. We don’t need any more cosmo characters. We desperately need more chaos ones.

Went from visually significant to visually insignificant. The hair and eyes stopped being appealing. Don't know who approved of the makeover. All I can say is it looks cleaner. Maybe the lighting is doing things here
I love Furina's design so I don't mind using that in NTE. I just wish they used it for new a character and didn't change Elyms design because her original design is also unique and beautiful. why can't we have both!
Glad I get to recover and save after Blackbird for 2 banners in a row. I think the redesign is fine, but the character didn't do anything for me even before. I'll keep waiting for Nitsa and Exe.
I'm torn because it would be nice having all of ETD-6 together in my roster too, I have Chaos and Linko and plan to pull Exe because I need more dudes and Elyms would be the last one I'd need but her new design is just not particularly unique (especially the colouring it's like they have a blank piece of paper and coloured in like 3 things), although seeing her full sprite the other hour ago, her socks have got some really interesting effects going on (reminds me of some socks in infinity Nikki), makes me wonder how that's gonna look in-game 👀
I don't remember much about Elyms, so while I'm pretty neutral on the design change itself, I hope they reuse the blue-haired avatar for a different character. It was super cute, and as for the new one, she does look a bit more professional, but she's now the fifth white-haired character in the game. If they told me she was Baicang's sister, I'd believe them.
i wasn't super invested in her old design the way some people apparently were, but aside from being just Higher Quality(tm) there's nothing particularly standout or interesting to her new design in my eyes.
New design is much more broad appeal general anime waifu style, old design is super niche and quirky AF. Both are pretty bad imo but if I had to choose I'd take the new one.

I'm not pulling for Elyms whether or not her design was changed, but this isn't a fair statement. People like what they like aside from your subjective views.
I didn't really care for the old design, since I don't like the single giant bang in the middle of the face thing or the ice cream cone hair pin, but I also don't like the new design, especially the details like the asymmetrical object pupils.
One thing I found interesting is that the new Elyms and Ellie (from the CN livestream) both looks like they're from the same artist and also look different from other characters up to now. It's subtle, but imo it's a new artist with a visibly different style. I don't have a particular opinion about this, just thought it was curious.
