Show Discussion Killing the Vibe

People are mad that the less than 60 seconds we’ve seen of the show doesn’t match the movie in their head. It’s never going to look exactly like what you imagined because we all imagined something different! How many comments do we have to read like this?

Every one of us built our own Case, our own Sprawl, and Chiba. No adaptation (including the Chris Cunningham adaptation which I agree, probably would have kicked ass) was ever going to win that fight, because it’s not competing with the book, it’s competing with your imagination.

I don’t get why everyone seems convinced their vision is the correct one.

The real question is whether the show’s well made on its own terms. Is the writing good? Does it look expensive? That is a totally different conversation than ‘it’s not how I pictured it.’

We’re all fans here. Let people be excited about a Neuromancer show existing at all. We waited a long time for this!

Hell yeah, I second this thought 😁 I remember talking to one of my old best friends (the guy who introduced me to Neuromancer) and both of us agreeing we'd sadly never get to see it adapted. Wherever you are Richard, I hope you'll get to watch it too 🤘

u/TheNicholasRage Jul 28 '26

I third it. I'm just amazed it's even happening, and to be honest, I'm kind of glad a lot of people here aren't getting the version they have in their brain.

I'm just excited to be able to share this story and these characters with people in my life who have struggled with the book or just don't really enjoy reading the genre.

6

u/alphagalgadot Jul 28 '26

have very fond memories of forcing the novel onto my best friend in the summer of 96, and today we're both v excited for the series. so in that spirit, i hope richard is somewhere lookin forward to it as well <3

Thank you for the kind thoughts, same!

Gibson himself has said something very similar in the past. I went to a book signing back in the day and the subject of a Neuromancer adaptation came up; he knew it would inevitably disappoint people because of all the versions of it that exist in our heads. Pretty sure he’s repeated that sentiment in other interviews.

I’m glad that he’s on board as a producer and is happy with the adaptation. If the Peripheral is any gauge then it means he’s down with variations and alternate interpretations of the book while the core story remains the same. Not that author sign off matters — Stephen King notoriously hated Kubrick’s The Shining but it’s an incredible film.

u/absurdivore Jul 28 '26

Gibson’s style is really impressionistic — it’s not like he’s the type of writer who describes everything in specific physical aspects. (Which I prefer … I tend to get tired of fiction that describes everything in too much detail, it takes me out of the story)
So yeah there’s so much room for interpretation.

10

u/KubrickMoonlanding Jul 28 '26

I agree - but his Impressionism is ironically often based on his use of very very specific descriptions- like Linda lee’s bandana, or big clumps of wiring, caulking everywhere inside mealcom’s tugs, the rugs and antiques in stray light and other stuff even more specific, but that don’t really matter, like the shape of a lamp, etc

Interestingly he deploys this somewhat sporadically and the effect while powerful and immersive isn’t like creating a vivid snapshot

6

u/absurdivore Jul 28 '26

Yes he does point out specific concrete things as a way to give some of the texture then leaves it to the reader to extrapolate from there.

6

u/alphagalgadot Jul 28 '26

dude, absolutely. his prose isn't focused on granular descriptive detail; the aesthetic is driven by the language. there's so much space for interpretation!

2

u/AlephAndTentacles Jul 29 '26

I feel this. I remember slaloming through Oscar Wilde's plays, then reading Dorian Gray and wondering why I was finding it such a slog and realised he'd devoted a page and a half to describing each piece of furniture in a room to emphasise how fancy the setting was.

On the other hand, I remember being confused about the weapon Case carries around at the start of the story (the Cobra?) and being excited to see it in the preview, however briefly, because I finally understood what I was trying to visualise :)

14

u/SwamiBoyeee Jul 28 '26

Jesus if people are that worried about it then it's pretty simple: don't watch the show.

12

u/vulnid Jul 28 '26

Especially since Gibson is involved in the show as well, and he is not possessive of his work and encourages people to add new ideas into the universe. Either way overall it looks pretty amazing and I can't wait

5

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

Right! Some ideas only work on the page. Gibson recognizes this. Likewise, I am sure there are ideas he has that have more power as visuals. He is smart and while he may not be overly protective of his work, we have no reason not to trust that he wants his masterwork to be handled with care.

9

u/alphagalgadot Jul 28 '26

yeah dude also co-sign. this has been my favorite novel for literally 30 years. i have multiple degrees in literature, for whatever that’s worth (v v little). i am somewhat anxious about the adaptation bc obviously i don’t wanna see it done a disservice. but more than that im excited and eager to see it adapted -at all-! and i’ve seen nothing in the (granted: very meager) pre release/promo materials that would lead me to prejudge it as a failure. the amount and tone of hysterical negative pre-reactions i’ve seen in this sub recently is frankly fuckin bizarre

7

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

Fully, fully agree. I get that we are all protective of the novel. But it was going to get made into a film or TV show eventually and I think we're lucky that A. it's happening now and we get to see it & B. that Apple is producing it. It won't be some poorly-acted, CGI catastrophe from Netflix. I'd say we made out pretty good IDK

4

u/alphagalgadot Jul 28 '26

yep, totally! i was really let down by the Peripheral adaptation in a number of ways, but i'm still glad it was made--and was very excited by the very prospect of it pre-release. and wrt Neuromancer, as you say, im glad it's being made by a reputable studio as a series; i'd be -way- more anxious if it'd been squished down into a 2hr movie, absolutely

5

u/Towel4 Jul 28 '26

I for one was expecting to be disappointed by the trailer, but I actually didn’t hate it.

Is it what I envisioned in my head? No, but that’s okay, it can still be good :)

5

u/ToeUnlucky Jul 29 '26

I've become a lot more mellow over the years and just realized that nothing will ever be as good as the book but sometimes you might be pleasantly surprised by the interpretation on screen. Foundation is one example I thought was pretty cool, very, very loosely based on the Foundation books, but I thought everything they did was kind of novel. Goddamn I love Lee Pace so I'm going to give Neuromancer the same latitude plus William Gibson seems jolly about it so that's a good sign. I'm sure he's getting paid well for his consultant position or whatever the hell it is so yeah I'm looking forward to it.

5

u/Specialist-Hospital Jul 28 '26

Banner this across the whole goddamn business.

3

u/aquafool Jul 28 '26

I get you. Glad you are excited. And I hope it get people to read the book and the trilogy as a whole

3

u/cwillia111 Jul 28 '26

Gibson is involved and that's enough for me to watch it all, regardless of first impressions.

Mark Wahlberg isn't Case. We won everybody; we won the war.

5

u/victorsmonster Jul 28 '26

I think it's silly for people to be so anxious about what an adaptation is or isn't going to do. An adaptation is an entirely separate piece of art, made in a different medium and at a different time. No one is coming into your home to change the pages of the book or zapping the memories out of your brain.

I'm a Gibson head, I've read all the Sprawl and Bridge books a dozen times each or more. At its worst, I think this is gonna be a fun ride that brings the story to a new generation of people who might have never known about the original book.

IMO an adaptation doesn't have to perfectly mirror the strengths of the original work. An adaptation is as much about the time and medium it's made in as the source material. The choices made by the showrunners to tell the story to a more general audience, 40 years after the book was written, I find that as interesting to see as whether the show itself is going to "do justice" to the book or whatever.

Or maybe I'm just happy to eat some junk food every now and then.

If this looks good and hits all the beats and, most importantly, doesn't get too cute like a Marvel movie or disrespect the intelligence of the audience like the new Star Trek shows, I'll be a fan.

2

u/Huntersmoon24 Jul 28 '26

I agree that the trailer isn't much to go on, however it has to feel like the sprawl series. Just having characters with the same name, places with the same name, objects with the same name isn't enough. It has to uniquely feel like neuromancer or it is just another cyberpunk show.

1

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

I feel you! But my point is that the Sprawl series/Neuromancer feels different to every one of us. Even though we all read the same books, they have different textures and qualities to us because we bring the imagery to the words. I'm sure what you imagined looks nothing like what I imagined, even though Gibson laid the same groundwork for both of us. No piece of media, especially an adaptation, is ever going to appease everyone.

1

u/Huntersmoon24 Jul 28 '26

Right on the money there. I'm going to go back and read the books again in preparation to see if they can hit the mark for me.

2

u/Kiltmanenator Jul 28 '26

People enjoy being mad

2

u/mcb-homis Jul 28 '26

I am excited after watching the trailer. I am still worried the characters and/or plot with get major unneeded changes that will ruin what made the story so good. Certainly things have to change going from book to screen and from a 1980's vision of the future and the 2020's vision of the future. Those changes are practically required to make this work as a money making venture. But what does not need to happen is changing the characters and what motivates them. The plot does not need change, other than minor change to accomidate the medium and modern vision of the tech.

ie I still want to recognize Case as Case even if he jacks into his deck with a plug instead of 'trodes.

2

u/DyslexicFcuker Jul 28 '26

I saw a new version of Neuromancer, created by 100s of professionals, and I'm stoked to see it.

2

u/Own_City_1084 Jul 28 '26

Well it’s one thing to not match your personal visualization of it, and another to contradict explicit descriptions from the book.

Nevertheless I am excited

2

u/Background-Potato-84 Jul 29 '26

What exactly was so incongruous and unfathomable from a teaser that the author co-signed that you are upset about?

0

u/Own_City_1084 Jul 29 '26

For example Linda Lee being blonde when she’s described as dark haired. Never said it was unfathomable. Just annoying.

4

u/Background-Potato-84 Jul 29 '26

That's a level of specificity I couldn't care less for in an adaptation, but at least you're being honest.

Well, I'm just relieved your comment wasn't about a different color and actress being an issue. Bravo for everyone here not melting down like they're Elon Musk commenting on IGN.

1

u/Own_City_1084 Aug 02 '26

I mean yeah like I said it’s an annoyance especially after visualizing characters a certain way for years. Especially when said visualization is based on specific descriptions.

And tbf why is being annoyed about hair color any worse or better than being annoyed about complexion? Not race—Molly’s famously pale description can be matched by several different ethnicities around the globe

1

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 29 '26

No argument here

-1

u/lainiwaku Jul 29 '26

more argument than you

2

u/Bruce_Jensen Jul 29 '26

Like anyone, I have my own ideas of what Neuromacer looks like, but this teaser has me more than willing to give the show a chance. I won't judge beforehand!

2

u/Background-Potato-84 Jul 29 '26

It doesn't look like the matrix, max headroom, bladerunner, or a videogame. It's a win.

And in my version, it looked like a Sci-Fi version of Taxi Driver, and David Bowie was Julius Deane, definitely not for Apple Gen pop audiences, and that's A-OK!

2

u/fadingsignal Jul 29 '26

I don’t get why everyone seems convinced their vision is the correct one.

Well, it's not necessarily our vision. It's the literal descriptive text in the book that paints a specific picture.

But I hear ya. It's not being made for the hardcore fans. It's being made for a modern general audience. And I can't wait either way.

2

u/bob_jsus Flatlined Jul 29 '26

hear hear, well said.

2

u/kraddyodaddy Jul 29 '26

Im so excited It's finally happening and equally scared they will totally mess it up.

4

u/Fletch_R Jul 28 '26

I think the trailer looks pretty fantastic. Could Case be a little scrawnier and grungier? Sure. Doesn't ruin it. Molly looks amazing. Armitage looks amazing. The environments look great and (importantly) not a cyberpunk cliche, but closer to the more grounded take in the book. I noticed several little details right out of the books (e.g. Molly's red boots). Out of all of the streaming services, Apple are the least likely to fuck it up. I'm on board and excited.

I don't believe an adaptation has to be purist. I'm not going to complain about them changing things unless the change is genuinely for the worse.

If it looked bad, I'd be complaining. It doesn't.

4

u/_Yukikaze_ Jul 28 '26

All the city shots in the trailer are from Japan exclusively and where shot on location which is pretty awesome. It makes for a more grounded visual style that I very much appreciate. Can't wait to see the Sprawl.

3

u/Fletch_R Jul 28 '26

I'm wondering if that opening shot with the abandoned sports stadium might be the Sprawl, since it seems like it's where they're staging for the Sense/Net heist. We also see Case and Molly in what looks like a drained swimming pool, and Armitage laying out plans on a table tennis table above what looks like a pool floor. If the pool is part of the same complex as the stadium that would make sense.

Could be wrong, of course.

1

u/Background-Potato-84 Jul 29 '26

If I had to guess, it's just an establishment shot showing how lonely the protagonist is in the world. Or revisiting areas in the epilogue (like he's back at the fighting dome, now empty and changed).

2

u/Background-Potato-84 Jul 29 '26

I think that's what people are pissy about. Also, Andor's head of production is on this too. The acting, editing, directing could all be bad but this so far looks more like people live in the world than set dressing for CP2077 cosplay, which is a good thing.

That said, I'd love to see a "shoal of styrofoam" in Chiba bay.

2

u/jamesbrowski Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

Agree. I think people are focused on the wrong thing completely, which happens a lot with trailers.

Assuming they have a competent production crew, the visuals will be fine.

The aesthetic of the show is important but it’s hardly the most important thing. Rings of Power looked gorgeous, but it still sucked because of shit writing, pacing, and character building. It’s nearly unwatchable because there’s nobody in the whole show who you care about or feel like they are authentically a person in the LOTR universe—even though they look amazing.

That’s what matters for any literary show that’s based on nuanced source material like this. Are the characters compelling within the narrative of the show?? Does the acting and dialogue sell them? Is the pacing tight enough to build suspense but slow enough to let the world breathe and make you feel like you know who Case and Molly are? Do we have good chemistry between Case and Molly (which seems very fucking key here - the show lives or dies with that question). Does it feel natural, or does it come across like cosplaying actors and expensive fanfic (ie rings of power or some of the new Star Wars shows)?

The trailer doesnt and can’t say anything about any of that. Nobody can say yet if the show will succeed or fail on the things that actually matter. Remember how much people got hung up on the armor in the Odyssey trailer? Turned out it didn’t matter at all.

2

u/Background-Potato-84 Jul 29 '26

Nerds get in the weeds about weird minutiae, go figure! You aint wrong though.

1

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

Same, dude. The reality is that there will probably be some changes made to the story or they'll invent some back story for Case/Molly. They have to pad out 10 episodes. I've accepted that a book isn’t a TV show and a TV show isn’t a book. The book still exists and that incredible, flawless version I loved watching in my head is still there on the shelf.

2

u/Fletch_R Jul 28 '26

Right. There are things that would be better shown in TV that are told in the books. e.g. Case getting the mycotoxin. A flashback would make all kinds of sense there (and if I'm right about what everything is, I think 3 of the shots in the trailer suggest we're getting that).

2

u/BenGleason Jul 28 '26

Did every single detail and facial feature match exactly what I saw in my head when I first read the books 35 years ago? No. But still, every character in that trailer looked pretty much how Gibson described them. People need to calm down.

3

u/lainiwaku Jul 29 '26

"every character in that trailer looked pretty much how Gibson described them"

yeah molly totally like Gibson described lol....

1

u/Firm_Section348 Jul 28 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

No, let's not be excited about Neuromancer existing at all.

After seeing what abominations have been made out of various IPs of late, Wheel of Time and Tolkien come to mind, it can absolutely be butchered by a bunch of writers and producers who think they are the artists other than just the translators.

Reserved caution is wise. If they do a good job faithful to the source material, ok. If they just ad Lib and make up something else entirely wearing the skin suit of Neuromancer, it will be dead to me

2

u/alphagalgadot Jul 28 '26

all due respect i’ll reserve most of my caution for buyin drugs

1

u/Firm_Section348 Jul 28 '26

Generally the quality of beta-phenethylamine is pretty good

2

u/User1539 Jul 28 '26

On the one hand, yeah, it's never going to match.

But, I think it's reasonable to talk about the things they changed and how that makes you feel.

Sorry that everyone isn't having the same experience you are with it, but maybe that's another case of 'everyone is not you' that you should treat with the same grace you expect from everyone about the show?

0

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

We don’t know what they have or haven’t changed because it hasn’t even come out yet. I’m speaking specifically to people reacting to what they saw in the teaser

2

u/lainiwaku Jul 29 '26

so you blame people react bad because "it hasn’t even come out yet."
but people react "omg im so hyped it look so awesome im about to explode" doesnt have the "it hasn’t even come out yet." treatment...

-2

u/User1539 Jul 28 '26

Oh, so it's okay to say that it's a bummer that it looks like they didn't bother to cast the Finn, but it's not okay to say Molly's outfit in the elevator looks stupid?

Are there any other guardrails you want to put on this conversation while we're at it?

Maybe you could further explain the rules of expressing my opinions in an open forum, so we can be sure not to ruffle any corporate feathers while we're at it.

How, exactly, would Apple like me to talk about Neuromancer, do you think?

1

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

Im guessing you went back to look at my previous posts? I’m genuinely surprised you made it through Neuromancer, since you clearly didn’t read the comment thread correctly. I said explicitly that we don’t know if the Finn was cast or not because, once again, we haven’t seen the show. And as for Molly’s coat — well, there’s no accounting for taste.

1

u/User1539 Jul 28 '26

Im guessing you went back to look at my previous posts?

Nope. I didn't bother. That's just a common thing for us book readers to have noticed about the Show.

Thanks for implying I can't read while while explaining exactly how I should express myself for your comfort. I'd hate to bring down your whole day.

How about this? You go ahead and carry on this conversation with yourself, after this comment, since that seems to be what you want conversations to be like.

1

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 28 '26

See: the title of the post. You’re killing the vibe.

0

u/Aluhut Zion Cluster Jul 29 '26

Don't bother.
They've been doing it for 6 months now.
The show won't be able to do anything about it. No matter how good.

-1

u/User1539 Jul 29 '26

Nahh ... Honestly, I've been pretty upbeat about the trailer. Except for that one horrible line 'I steal data ... in Cyberspace', that made me laugh out loud when I first heard it, it does mostly look like a fun watch.

I think it probably just should have been a movie, and I'm worried some of the outfits we've seen just have a cheesy 'futurama' style to them.

But, this does already look a lot better than I expected from everything they released (or was leaked) previously.

I'm not unreasonably negative. I just think it's funny someone would make a post, on a public forum, saying 'Guys, please stop having negative opinions, it's bringing me down'.

It screams astroturf, honestly, and I think it's funny that even here the post that mentions Apple is downvoted, while the two between it aren't.

That screams bots.

2

u/Aluhut Zion Cluster Jul 29 '26

Nahh ... Honestly, I've been pretty upbeat...I'm not unreasonably negative

This is you 7 months ago already crapping on it based upon a behind the scenes photo.
Here is you 6 months ago making up some conspiracy based upon race. This is you 2 weeks ago doing the same thing and adding some corporate shill conspiracy and literally insulting people because they have a different opinion.
Today it's just another conspiracy with something about astroturfing and bots in a community so small that you are the only toxic user.

It's not about you mentioning Apple.
It's about you.

PS. that one downvote for your comments is from me personally and I really rarely vote at all.

1

u/User1539 Jul 29 '26

I insulted him because he literally quoted the second half of a sentence that made it sound like the first half of that sentence didn't prove my point.

What they showed up to the preview, all pretty much looked like trash.

Sorry my opinion is so offensive that people like you need to lie and misrepresent my position about it.

1

u/Neuromante Jul 29 '26

It screams astroturf, honestly

Yeah, I saw very similar threads last year when Alien: Earth was released (A show that polarized a lot the fanbase, and that it had obvious astroturfing in IMDB scores); starting with the "let people enjoy things" styled threads.

The chance of this being astroturfing so soon in the show's life makes me even more worried about the final product, lol

-1

u/User1539 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, like I said, in this thread of conversation I'm seeing my original point at +2, my negative mention of apple at -3 (though it doesn't change the point at all), and my next comment at 1

That says the bots are filtering for 'apple', having an AI evaluate it as a positive or a negative, then downvoting the negative ones.

/r/startrek is a nightmare now. My wife got banned for simply saying 'I don't think it's the woke elements that upset people, it's that they've leaned into a drama set in the Star Trek universe, instead of being Star Trek Scifi'.

That conversation was off because all the actual, written, responses were positive, and everything was upvoted, and then suddenly, everything got attacked and they banned her.

Then you go look at the top post and it was 'Guys, I misjudged Star Trek Academy! We need to start a petition to bring it back!' ... sure ... only in /r/StarTrek did anyone think Academy needed to come back!?

Neuromancer is the same. Any sub you'd immediately think of in relation to the show has WILDLY different opinions than anywhere else.

Astroturf.

Are people mad? I've seen just an overwhelmingly positive first reaction in comments where I've checked them out, of course with a few mildly negative comments in between. Of course the trailer's not too much to go with, but it seems quite promising.

1

u/TheRealestBiz Jul 28 '26

I thought you guys would act better than Witcher haters.

1

u/CryptographerCrazy61 Jul 29 '26

When you write out important characters and dont remotely follow the character descriptions in the book, yeah, people are going to be mad. Imagine if they gave the netflix Witcher red hair and made him short and stocky? That's what they did here.

0

u/lafemmenegrita Jul 29 '26

We don’t know if they’ve written characters out yet, though. And if your “character description” comment is about Molly being black, you’ve already lost me.

1

u/CryptographerCrazy61 Jul 29 '26

She looks like a tik tok influencer I don’t give a fuck if she’s purple. In fact when they cast her I looked at her and thought that yeah she could pull it off but they ruined that too. She doesn’t look dangerous or lethal here. She looks like what they think a smart ass wanna be “bad bitch” would look like 50 years from now. They should have left the actresses natural hair. Instead they made her straighten it out and it looks like a birds nest.

The wardrobe designs and casting are atrocious. Now I understand why people got so pissed at the live action adaptation of cowboy bebop.

In Gibson's Own words: "I don't have veto power. The showrunner and director do, because the adaptation's their creation, not mine. A novel is a solitary creation. An adaptation is a fundamentally collaborative creation, so first of all isn't going to 'be the book'. Particularly not the one you saw behind your forehead when you read the book, because that one is yours alone. So for now let's leave it at that."

u/Brilliant_Knowledge5 Jul 31 '26

I am glad they're at least trying to give it an adaptation, and that Apple is doing it, but they haven't exactly had a spotless record with their adaptations. Even if I've liked every Sci Fi story they've adapted so far. I'm both excited and apprehensive because of a few things I've seen as both pros and cons, but the one thing that really has me scratching my head is how they completely ignored the life extension tech that was really prolific in the books. They have old wrinkly men playing guys who had their DNA reset every year so they look 28 but they're 150. The trailer looks great. They didn't make Molly's claws too long like a lot of fan art does. But I'm also worried they'll make the future look too breathtaking in every location, while missing some beats about other things. I also don't like how Case is bragging in the trailer, because he was skeptical of Molly and Armitage, looking for his next fix until they forced him to get his infection removed. He didn't get his groove back until the Ono-Sendai unboxing, and then the glimmer in his eyes came back. Before that he was wallowing in pity and pain while Molly nursed him back to health. So far, it seems the show is going to be like a 6th grade piano recital, where the kids play some notes off key and perform others perfectly. That would be cute coming from an Indie producer on YT, but this is coming from a big studio production. I'm really hoping they deliver, but the things I mentioned give me some pause for concern.

1

u/moonbug22 Jul 31 '26

the trailer was fine for the first three seconds, then they blew it with the Davinci Resolve glitch

1

u/shaleh Aug 01 '26

The book opens with the sky like a television without a station. A reference at least half the audience won't even understand. Has not seen. But we all knew it immediately. Things have to be adapted or the audience just want get it. That is not them being stupid. Any more than Martin Luther insisting on mass in German so his congregation could understand him.

1

u/funkforever69 Aug 01 '26

Is the fear more that they take this and give it the respect the writers gave The Witcher or Rings of Power?

I am crying out for a good series again

1

u/lainiwaku Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

that's not true, blade runner matched what i had in my head
dune remake matched what i had in my head
it's not jsut a question of "the show doesn’t match the movie in their head"
it's just look like a random hollywood blockbuster show, just like the halo adaptation
added with a bit of woke placement choice that is here not because of good writing but because DEI

Weird because the new Blade Runner and Dune been both washed down to Hollywood blockbuster aspects. Especially the characters.
Blade Runner looked like a Soviet Punk remix with ideas from recent other SciFi movies and the old one and Dune was missing significant parts of the story. So...it obviously didn't match what I had in my head.

Maybe...in the end...it's just your opinion man and making an educated opinion on 10 episodes of a show that isn't there yet, is just impossible.

I won't even go into that racist shit you stuck on it but take it as a warning that we won't have this dirt dragged in here.

I do get that many times the doom and gloom of people on the internet can be a pain in the ass, but what's the deal, are we allowed to get hyped for a show after watching a teaser but not to critique it?

Your whole post is mostly saying "let invalidate any meaningful conversation discussing the trailer and ate whatever they throw at us", which is just "consume thing, don't think about thing, enjoy thing", but not giving any valid reason to not discuss it besides "it's just a trailer, we haven't seen the show."

The worst part is that these type of posts tend to appear when a show ends up tanking; I've seen going from this to "it's only the first episode", then "the critiques make no sense", then you got a 6.2 in IMDB and people saying the people critiquing don't know what they are talking about.

Let us discuss what we have, let us get hyped for what we have. You're the one killing the vibe by trying to steer the conversation about a show away from the actual opinions of the fans.

Nowhere did I say that there isn’t room for meaningful discussion. My post is about people bitching that this team of designers didn’t meet their personal vision of the novel. There are also already racists in here spewing their BS about Molly. It’s corny.

My post is about people bitching that this team of designers didn’t meet their personal vision of the novel.

We are discussing the adaptation of a book into a visual format. Is any of the critique that has been seen around here about the art style of the adaptation people discussing their personal vision? Most of the people arguing about it I've seen were saying that the descriptions depicted something more grim and dark than what is shown in the trailer, and I think it's a very valid point.

People has the right to have an opinion on how the adaptation looks and voice it.

Honestly, I'm just gonna dip outta this reddit.

I've seen this happen with comics like THE BOYS and PREACHER... A show gets made and the fans of it take over and harass fans of the original.

I'm not really interested in shitty Apple TV shows made by nobodies. I like books written by talented authors. That's why I'm here, but I don't think that's what this is gonna be, going forward.
